Super addictive and incredibly fun strategy game for 1-2 players, featuring a unique mix of turn-based and real-time action gameplay. With a range of weapons, gadgets and levels, there's tonnes of replay value (plus fun achievements) and the co-op play makes it 10 times better! This is honestly the most fun I've had with a game all year and I'm sure I'll likely play it again in the future. If you enjoy co-op games for 2 people, you really need to check this one out!
I'd recommend playing this with a friend but either way it's mindless fun to play as Sigma, running over Aiba with a hoverboard as Phi gets eaten by zombies 9/10
RAD is a very fun X-COM-like game that's fun solo, but even better with a friend. Each player controls 3 characters that each get 8 seconds of action (moving/aiming/shooting/completing objectives) per turn and then the enemies will take their move/attack/spawn actions. The core loop in each mission is very satisfying and fun. Outside of missions one will research enemies/weapons/gadgets, build defenses for zones, and analyze zones. Each of these actions take time measured in days and after 40 days the enemies will take their turn where they have the chance to increase the threat level of a zone or attack one that the player controls, which gives the player the opportunity for a defend mission (which are turned on the easy side). This is an indie game so there are some rough spots. Weapons aren't tuned the greatest and they each have 2 modes that take some experimenting with. Likewise the gadgets take some time to learn, but the unfavorable results for the player are often hilarious (nothing like rocket boosting straight into a wall). The music and SFX are rather poor. Some of the enemy mechanics aren't intuitive (vampires and trolls being the worst offenders). I played through it solo and co-op with 2 different friends (some of this was on Gamepass, but I also bought it on Steam), so I've definitely would recommend this if one is looking for something X-COM-like or enjoys strategic games that can be played with a friend.
A good bit of fun. Maps are nice and I enjoy the Valkyria Chronicles style gameplay. It feels good to figure out how to kill as many enemies as possible in one turn and to set up smart plays. The economy and end game do fall off though. I never really needed to research new weapons and gadgets, the ones you start with are well rounded enough that changing it feels like sacrificing effectiveness for no real reason. And once you get the flamethrower on the hazmat suit, you're pretty much set. Also getting money is annoying. I managed to capture all the bases before I researched the final portal upgrade, so I just had to grind out university defenses to get enough money for a level 3 university and the final battle unlock. I'd like to see either more ways to make money or to allow for other mission types after you've secured a location. Still, fun and quirky, I don't regret the hours I put into it.
This game is so much fun I have come back to play it many times since beating it. It's a wonderful game to play with my kids as well, we love customizing our characters outfits, names and appearances. There's plenty of levels, a simple story and tons of fun & upgrade-able weapons & gadgets. Enemies get tougher as you progress but you can research to discover their weaknesses, enhance your home base. I can easily see myself continuously coming back to play this and beat it over and over and over again.
My favorite strategy game, Im sad its so short. Scooby-Doo at its finest
