A Fun Balatro-like With Memory Tiles And Cat Memes
I've played one memory-tile roguelike before, but that game barely scratches the surface of the potential these two gameplay structures can conjure. Here comes Replicat. Even though this roguelike imitates Balatro's formula a bit too literally, it is still a good game that can satisfy your number-generating thrill. Plus, cards are full of cat memes. What's not to love?
Things I Like About Replicat:

Simple Gameplay Loop: The premise is simple. You flip cards and find the same ones to pair them up within 16 moves. You can only have five pairs each turn, and the scoring order goes from left to right. Beware, though; you can't manually swap the pair order around. What you pair up first is the first to be calculated, so it is best to pair additive bonuses first before pairing multiplicative ones. This design adds an interesting layer of thinking to your card-flipping method.
More Strategizing, Less Memorizing: Interestingly, this memory tile roguelike is not all about memorizing the cards you flip but more about strategically purchasing curios and cards in the shop. Similar to Balatro, getting the right combination is key to achieving ridiculous number generation. Even if you are not very good with memorizing cards, there are some rule-bending curios or cards to help you make better use of the 16 moves per turn, such as auto-pairing the first card you flip, placing colored stickers on cards, or even pairing up the wrong cards together.
Lovely Cat Aesthetic: The game has rather simple art design, but of course that pales in comparison to all the funny cats drawn on each card. Cat memes, emojis in cat forms, and even the sound effects of both you scoring high points and low points are all about cats. I must admit, this all-cat commitment really helps elevate the gameplay in a non-mechanical way. Seeing more and more cats piling up on your screen when you score higher than the goal easily makes me want to play more.

Things I Dislike About Replicat:

RNG: Sadly, we still need to address the elephant in the room. RNG still haunts this type of game like a plague. Buying the right curios and cards is only half of the game. At the end of the day, you are still at the mercy of RNG when it comes to card placement. An unfavorable shuffle can ruin your run instantly even if you have a winning deck. Imagine how frustrating it is to flip two rows of cards without finding a single pair.
Brutal Bosses: To be fair, this is not just Replicat's problem. Every single number-generating roguelike has this kind of boss design philosophy, and I am surprised it doesn't get complained about enough. There are always specific debuffs that severely cripple certain playstyles, especially when you are in late-game rounds. I always have a bitter taste towards this kind of difficulty design. Straight up disabling or heavily hampering certain aspects of the gameplay is just not fun to deal with.

If you like what I write, please consider a follow to my curator page, thanks!
If you love cats and balatro, get it! It's addictive without being toxically addictive like balatro Art is freaking adorable and clever Music is quite excellent Lots of cute cat sound effects Mechanics are well implemented I'm surprised and sad this wasn't more popular upon release, I'm surprised it took me so long to see it in the store.
This is one of those games that I genuinely don't know how it's more popular. I absolutely love matching up all these tiles. I really like that you have to both build your deck and actually try to memorize where the tiles are. I play a lot of roguelikes, especially deckbuilding ones, and this is absolutely one of my favorites.
This game is actually amazing, i went into it blind, and i'm very happy i did so. 10/10 in my books. if you love cats and balatro. this is for you.
Solid gameplay. Difficult. Didn't win my first game for a while, until I got a hang of it. But, it was like that for me in Balatro too. Unique, cute, intuitive. Replayable.
I love cats & I love roguelikes, so this was an instant purchase for me. I don't have too many hours on it yet, but have been playing on steam deck and it works pretty well. The game is fun and the mechanics are intuitive--I'm still learning about combos and getting new cards to try. It is worth noting however that the game does require some level of memorization skill and spacial reasoning as it's fundamentally a 'match-two' conceit involving revealing/matching the cards. Despite my poor memory personally, I'm still having a lot of success and progressing, but in higher levels it might be worthwhile to keep a notepad handy. I'm excited to keep learning more! My only main complaint is that (at least on deck) the cursor is really difficult to use at times--not always clear where/how its moving on the screen--and it's not always clear what you're selecting at any given time, especially on more complex interfaces like the shop. I hope the dev will add a setting at some point to highlight selected items more explicitly or something for people who struggle with that. All in all, very worth it, especially at a discount :). I'm always excited to discover new cat related games coming out, and appreciate the dev for their hard work!
probably one of the best and unique roguelike deckbuilders ive ever played!! a bit confusing at first but youll get used to it!! i love the little cats and the fun synergies you can get with the curios :D looking forward for more updates!
Its a fun way to keep the brain in check lol.
