Remnith is a chaotic arcade style VR shooter where enemy units feed off of the energy of every shot that isn't lodged directly into them. The more you miss the stronger they get.

Remnith tells the story of survival, oppression, and an inevitable evacuation of the human race caused by violent, sentient robots. Players assume the role of a recently fired employee who must fight their way through hordes of enemies in order to escape to freedom. Despite the story being presented quite loosely there are some Portal-esque vibes in regards to its themes and presentation, with the beginning and ending sequences of Remnith displaying similarities. Click here to watch gameplay of Remnith. There are three major locations split into segments where every few steps will have players face off against these sentient robots, spawning in from large pylons. There are three enemy variants but I could only discern between two of them; those that stay airborne and those that travel along the ground. These enemies must be dispatched by futuristic projectile weaponry of which there are two types - a cannon with small and fast projectiles, and a gun that can be charged to release a powerful barrage of lasers - with both coming in three variations, the only difference being that each additional variant simply appends another barrel to provide additional firepower, with a maximum of three barrels for each of the two weapons. The apparent trade-off here is that more potential means less accuracy and a higher chance for the player to create energy scabs. Missing shots will create these environmental scabs that grow out of most surfaces and will power up nearby enemies, even through walls. While Remnith is somewhat engaging, that may be a product of its short length. I played through the entire game in less than an hour, with multiple deaths and breaks in between. If the game were any longer it would overstay its welcome, there is not enough variety with weaponry and enemy types and I found myself going through the motions with battle tactics once I realised the most optimal way to play by staying beneath enemies and shooting towards their spawned pylon, as the surface of the pylon itself will not create any energy scabs. The difficulty of Remnith can be inconsistent depending if battles take place in enclosed spaces as creating energy scabs is certainly unavoidable. There were times when I had to decrease the difficulty to pass an unrelenting battle with seemingly unending waves of enemies. Whilst Remnith does support VR headsets, I imagine this would be the most difficult way to play. I also found the story and ending unsatisfying and was constantly being brought back to memories of Portal despite the gameplay of both being wholly dissimilar.

An interesting concept but your mileage may vary. https://youtu.be/-AIYubmRJyg Remnith starts out strong with an interesting cinematic but doesn't really go anywhere with it. Story elements are dished out via collectable .gifs that you view in the world. Each .gif is two scenes and two sentences. You really don't get much out of them. According to the menu, there are 10 of those. Gameplay tickled that 'I will not stop playing on a loss' stubbornness but outside of that, I personally found it pretty repetitive. This is the main reason for the YMMV comment. I'm not a fan of repetitive shooters. The game plays exactly as advertised though so I'm not knocking it for this. I could easily see people enjoying this sort of game. For $9.99, it looks like you'll get about 2-3 hours of gameplay + whatever it takes to find all the .gifs. Not a bad price. Especially when you look at the options for the game. That's one area these guys excelled at. There are a large number input and locomotion options for this game as well as height offsets and comfort options. They may need to be a bit clearer on the wording for some options but that's minor compared to the fact that they have them.
A quick arcade style shooter. You jump in and you're shooting in just a few seconds and the action just never stops. The interesting part about this game is that every time you miss a shot, the enemies get stronger. It starts off easy as your gun only shoots 1 projectile per shot but as you quickly start to upgrade your gun to shooting 3+ projectiles per shot... you're missing all the time. To make things worse, your guns don't target the same place. They're ever so slightly offset from each other. My only two problems with the game are that I wish the graphics were better. I feel like they're a bit simple. Blocky even. The other thing is that I was getting frame issues. I didn't notice it in the headset so much but when I recorded a video for YouTube, I was only getting 30 fps. All in all though, good game. Worth $10. *** MY REVIEW IS FOR HTC VIVE GAME PLAY NOT DESKTOP *** For the trolling restless agitated ones: I did get this as a review copy. This is an arcade type FPS with a very metallic futuristic look to it. It is hard to explain the game except that you are armed with cannons that shoot various kinds of energy to take out mechanical monstrosities that also shoot out energy at you. The main kicker is that if you miss and hit walls structures grow out of them and feed the enemy with extra power making it harder to kill them. The cannons upgrade as you progress. The game has several difficulty levels and a ton of options for graphics, locomotion and various controls. The graphics were very pleasing on Ultra in their style and the special effects were always nice to look at. There is free roam in this game. You travel from area to area where new mechanical monstrosities appear (grow). The game play was fun although I did not really understand where it was going as far as story goes. Clues are dropped as you go along about what has happened on electronic poster boards at the end of certain levels. This game is not for the story though but the game play. Replayability on this title in my opinion lies in the difficulty levels. Test your skills as it gets harder. I only played for an hour so I don't know how many levels there actually are but the description on the store page gives that info. Overall, the game was a good VR experience. The sci-fi look kept me in awe. I had no bug issues and everything ran smooth with my build. The only question I have is the price. Is it worth $10? I'm not sure. Lover's of the genre have to decide I suppose. The game does have a unique style and a good feel after getting use to everything. This game may not be anything highly special but for the lower price it is ceratinly something to entertain. My rating would be 7/10. Here is a first play video below for a better look at the game. I played on the easy setting. It's in 4k which the game actually has as a setting. Enjoy. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1165931765
Oh boy. Not fun. I played the desktop version, and oh boy. I found it so incredibly unfun right off the bat. The aiming feels wonky (maybe it's the mouse acceleration? No setting for it, and I think playing shooters on a controllers is silly), the environments are cluttered and hard to navigate, the enemies are hard to spot - too much visual noise which is uniform in colour! The "pillar fall" sound is incredibly confusing and doesn't sound good. The shooting feels pretty lame (no juice), it's hard to even tell if you hit the enemy (which is crucial in this game). The visuals are meh but that's fine for an indie production, although I'm sure with better lighting and shaders the game could look actually good. My main gripe is: fighting does not feel good. I'm sorry, dev, I cannot see if you delivered on the promise of evolving enemies if the basic ones are just such a chore to fight. There's nothing to keep me "hooked". Oh, and to make things a bit more light-hearted at the end, at first I thought my gun is an enemy and I panicked a bit as I couldn't shoot it (WEAPON LOCKED). Death to AAA gaming. Take this loss and grow, dev. If you're not the dev, I suggest only buying this game if you're interested in experimental but unrefined experiences, or maybe if you have a VR headset (which this game could possibly be much, much better on).
Unfortunately I couldn't get this game to work. --- UPDATE: I took another look at this game after the Developer response, and I went through the startup instructions more carefully. The controllers don't work the way I was expecting, but now that I understand that, it's playable, and fun. Just read through the many instruction screens a little more carefully than I did.
Started the game, was killed (no spoilers and a slight exageration), my gun scared me, the environment scared me, I killed something that scared me. Empowered I strode into a world straight out of the bowels of Cybertron. Discovered my gun made hemorrhoids on the wall that empowered my enemy. 10/10 would empower my enemies using my gun in Cybertron's bowels again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTDX4xKguUM
Start the game YOU'RE FIRED! Was this game written by Trump? Remnith is a VR arcade-style FPS with an interesting mechanic, every time you miss the enemies get stronger, so spraying bullets is no good. https://youtu.be/ppWBRAXdzD0
