Relaxing Simulator appears to be one giant asset-flip, utilizing pre-made asset pack demo scenes with minimal changes, and even replicating preview angles from the author's listings. The following details which asset packs were used for 8 of the 9 locations, including the main menu background. Support the developer if it pleases you, but be aware that a lot of it was not developed. In terms of a Review, locations have rendering issues, emptyness if you try to explore, invisible walls, and Camping & Old Ruins look like the same map. Movement is extremely slow, and 'running' is a light stroll. Many small items can be picked up & spun around, but that's it for interactivity. While you can 'sit down' in some locations, it just moves the camera to a coordinate - I think you're supposed to be a ghost, but movement is very ridgid. • Camping looks to be placed at the tail-end of Old Ruins, but with the castle and 3/4 of the bridge removed. • As the asset was only meant to be a preview, the Forest Cabin interiors are almost completely empty. • Modern Villa also appears in a free joke-game on Itch called "100 cats in a House Asset" • Palace contains graphical errors in the form of duplicate, shifting windows, and a glassy, shifting 'shadow' behind the statues. There is no door. • The ship has rendering glitches on the water surface, the waves are flowing away from the shore and the boat doesn't sway. So, Relaxing Simulator is. Kind of. Relaxing. Inasmuch as you are encouraged to take in your surroundings and enjoy some pleasant scenery in a variety of locations, in a variety of weather conditions, from day to night. It is also not relaxing inasmuch as your primary activity outside of relaxing is touching everything you can touch (at least in order to get some of the cheevos). Although picking up the cameras leads to some nice preset screenshot opportunities. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3404305109 And the scenery is nice. Which definitely serves its purpose. Additionally, the music is appropriately chill to kind of help you get there. Now, unless you intend to idle this game for days on end, I don't foresee this being a game for completionists, as a lot of cheevos are tied to your actual in game time and are pretty unrealistic in my opinion. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3404305144 This is such a simple game with such a single-minded purpose that there really isn't much to discuss here. And actually, this is one that I would not call a game so much as a simple experience. It is currently 79 cents at the time of this writing. I'd argue that this is the appropriate price and if you see it for that price, you can be guaranteed a walking sim whose only purpose is to provide scenery for you to enjoy, That $7.99 retail price, though? Nah. Don't do that.
Random thoughts, wishes, and comments after playing each of the different maps in this gorgeous game for a while: ****For those people interested in playing this, the creator/developer gives a very apt (and exact) description of the simulator on Steam's STORE PAGE/"news" tab. -I'm VERY happy I purchased this game, not to mention it's at a very decent price-point. It sure lives up to its' simple but clever name ("Relaxing Simulator"). -I love all of the eight maps included with this. SO varied! Love being able to examine different objects, and the ability look at things from different viewpoints in each indoor and outdoor environment. -I am appreciative of the fact that SO many graphics settings are flexible and easy to change via a simple menu. Changing some of the grfx settings from ultra to a lower setting helps optimize the game better for me, especially on my 5 year old Dell desktop/gaming PC. That said, even in a "busy" outdoor environment (such as "camping"), the game is fairly well optimized even at higher grfx settings, and even slightly lowering my maxed-out grfx settings results in PERFECT optimization (without some of the heavy fan-noise in the outdoor environments if I'm maxed out graphically). Your PC may differ, especially if it's newer than mine. I'd say overall, it's really WELL-optimized, especially if it runs on my dinosaur. For reference, here are my PC specs:--Running Windows 10 Home 64bit on a Dell Inspiron 5090 desktop PC. Intel Core i7-9700 CUP@ 3.00 GHz [8-Core/8-Thread 12M Cache, 4.7GHz Processor w/ Intel Turbo Boost Technology]. 16 GB memory. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8GB GDDR6 and NVIDIA High Def audio. All completely updated w/ latest drivers and Win 10 updates. Running game at 1920X1080 on a standard monitor and using a fully-updated SSD drive to run the game. -The game loads quickly when playing, and there is an option to run the game using DX-11. I did not choose this DX 11 option (yet), so I'm not sure how the game looks (or runs) on what ostensibly would be a less "system-challenging" setting? Is it running with DX 12 if I don't choose the DX 11 option? Not sure. -The eight maps are ALL immediately accessible in the main menu, as are all settings options. -I LOVE the weather effect-choices and the time of day choices. LOVE them! SO simple to change and to adopt a variety of times and weather conditions. It's noted right in the waether-settings area that your weather/time of day settings don't "keep", so you have to change them (from "clear", I imagine, which is the default/daytime setting) once you restart the game or a map. Not a big deal, as all changes are instantaneous. There's even an option to "stop time", so I can assume the time of day progresses as one stays in an envronment/map? Not sure as I havent' stayed around in each map long enough...yet. ****If possible, I'd add a snow effect to the outside environments. It's the only common weather variant that's missing. ****I'd also add, if possible, a generic "beach map." I'm sure it would be a welcome addition to players. -Ship map: some more waves on the water would be a welcome addition. Seen on the shoreline-in-the-distance while on the (pirate?) ship, there is some sort of a constant, green, repetitively-cycling "great-height" wave (not sure what else to call it). Seems weird, as it's only in the distance near the shoreline on one side of the mountain range. ****If possible, I'd lose that giant green stagnant-"wave" (or tone it down a bit, to make it less starkly-noticeable), and implement more ocean/water waves to and fro, leading up to the boat. I LOVE the ocean life seen below the water, and the way the light reflects. -Palace hall map: I love the ability to turn the chandelier lights on and off. One anomaly I noticed in this map: when picking up and examining bottles on the long tables, the outline of the bottle (no matter which examinable-bottle I choose to pick up) makes a white or keyed-out cutout pattern of that bottle show up on the windows in the background. This occurs whether "shadows" (for instance) are maxed out or on low setting. As a mater of fact, this anomaly occurs no matter WHICH grfx settings are tinkered with. It's not annoying, but breaks the "realism." -I don't mind at ALL the inability to physically interact with any wildlife seen outdoors. The fact that I can walk right up to any creature and examine it is good enough. This isn't a hunting game :-) -I truly enjoy being able to examine some random objects in the game; open doors to walk through rooms, etc. ****I don't know how "simple" the following options would be to implement for players, but in my opinion, including a "fly mode" or a "glide mode", not to mention a fast-walk or a fast-travel option, would be great. I don't necessarily mind the slow-walk pace (the only mode available); after all, it IS a "relaxation simulator". But it WOULD be great, if the player wanted, to be able to fast-travel or at least least GET from point A to point B more quickly at times. -I like the incidental music (and the option to disable it), the sound design for the environments, and especially the attention to detail. VERY creative indoor and outdoor environment design/creation. . SO much to explore, even and especially inside the houses/villas. All the rooms to explore; fireplaces to light up or rooms to light up. Looking up at the stars at night outside or watching the rain fall. Checking out the views from inside the houses or near the lake(s). This is a truly unique experience. I'll play more as soon as I get the chance. Again: I'd give this simulator/game a very high rating. It checks all the boxes, and it's at a very fair price! I'm really enjoying it. There is SO much to explore and interact with in EACH environment. You're getting a LOT for the money. ************important edit to my review: the DEV has graciously added SNOW and BLIZZARD to weather choices (clear, fog, rain, thunder, snow, blizzard), and it incorporates wonderfully to all times-of-day in all the areas where you can be or view outside areas. ALSO: the dev has graciously added a slightly faster walking speed as an option, as well. Both of these are welcome additions!
Relaxing Simulator is a digital break from the stresses of everyday life. Offering up a collection of different maps to explore and interact with.
Settings, Features & Gameplay
Settings & features include; language settings, video settings such as resolution, render quality, brightness, graphics settings, audio controls and control overviews for mouse and keyboard and controllers. Highlights * There are currently 9 maps in the game which include Camping, Old Villa, Rural Cabin, Street House, Modern Villa, ruins, Palace Hall, Ship and Paradise Island. * You pick the weather! From clear skies, fog, rain, thunder storm, light snow, snow, and blizzard * Control the time of day from sunset to sunrise. * You can stop time if you want to keep a certain feel to your experience * You can have an aurora effect on or off at any time in your map * You can run and walk but not jump. Water will react to you being in it (ripples) * There are achievements, some are really easy to get and some require real-time hours that will take quite a bit of time to earn. My Personal Wishlist Some small things I do wish this game had; * Allow us to change our walking speed. I do find walking to be slow and running not that much quicker. Sometimes you want a leisurely walk but at other times you want to get to a certain point in the map and it can be quite the trek * I wish we could have a thunderstorm that is approaching with winds that pick up and the sound of thunder in the distance or periodic flashes of lighting as opposed to a full on thunderstorm. I love the feel of a storm brewing as opposed to walking in a full on storm. * We can interact with so many items on the maps however just to get a closer view and rotate them. I wish we could use some of the items. Like being able to find a key to open up the treasure chest on the ship.
The Visuals & Audio
There are a lot of settings to tweak your graphics, which is nice as it is a very graphically intense game. I played around with the settings and lowered some to reduce pop-ins and glitching at certain distances. Music is a selection of lo-fi tracks that are okay. I mean they fit the atmosphere but personally I dug out some of my own new age music to add to my experience. You can keep the ambient sounds and effects on and just lower the music as all three are on separate layers. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3429615932 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3429615786
Overall Experience
I am a lover of games created to help people relax and meditate. A few of my all time favourites being Playne and the recently released Take a Walk. These games offer a wholesome, calming experience and are few and far between in the gaming space. I loved the Ruins and the Island Paradise maps in particular (especially at night). But there is some nice map variety and with being able to control the weather and time of day you can really create the type of atmosphere to suit your mood. There is a lot of potential in this game for those who love to take screen captures. 🦋 I wanted to highlight this game as is currently on sale and worth nabbing it at the current price. This game was purchased by me for my personal library. On occasion I share my experiences with the groups I write for to help bring attention to games I’ve personally purchased and wish to give more exposure too. Relaxing game as it says. But I mostly love the game for these beautiful envoirement and scenes, especially for screenshots. You can also change the weather and time, which is a great idea. Really love the concept just for screenshots and some chill moments. 10/10! GET GOO GOO ALU
Really reaally good and relaxing simulator, my gosh for real, I love it. I like the way it looks, you can watch at literally everything and the sounds are -G.R.E.A.T.! The new map is a paradise for real. New favorite map. Also I think its pretty nice of the devs to change the achievement system, from 10k hours to 1k hours and then to 7 days. Really pretty they do such things for the community! Ty for that one. Old review: I hope for more awesome looking areas to explore. My fav one is so far the first camping area and the ambiance of setting the weather to rain is the best setting so far, I love to sleep while its raining/thundering. Great work so far ⭐⭐⭐⭐- Stars Rating, 5 for more contens and areas to explore
Eh, it does what it says on the page, so I'll give it a thumbs up. Kind of a lazy asset flip, but then again, it doesn't really pretend to be much more either. Seeing that the town house was the "House Party" house gave me a little chuckle though.
