Interesting game, good graphics. Allows you to define your preferred keyboard layout (excellent), and many other aspects to your liking. Well done !. But, it doesn't have a health indicator, so you can't measure when to use a health injection strategically after attacks. Do I need it urgently or I am wasting it and limiting my survival chances ? So, uninstalled. Hope to see a health meter added in the future to play it again as it seems very enjoyable otherwise.
RED NIGHT is an experimental horror shooter that tries to break away from conventional structure by presenting itself as a collection of fear-driven scenarios rather than a single, continuous narrative. Developed and published by REDSOFT, it builds its identity around the idea that horror is not one uniform experience, but something that can take many forms—each with its own tone, pacing, and emotional impact. This concept gives the game a distinct sense of unpredictability, even if the execution does not always fully support its ambition. You take on the role of Tess, a character caught in a hostile and shifting environment governed by a sinister, almost omnipresent artificial intelligence. This entity acts as both observer and manipulator, guiding the experience in a way that feels deliberately oppressive. Instead of progressing through a traditional storyline, the game unfolds in segments, each designed to evoke a different kind of fear. Some lean into psychological tension, others into survival pressure, and a few attempt to blend both. This fragmented approach creates a sense of variety, but it also means that the experience can feel uneven, as not every segment is equally developed or engaging. The gameplay combines first-person shooting with survival mechanics, placing emphasis on limited resources and careful decision-making. Combat is straightforward but intentionally constrained, forcing players to think about when to engage and when to conserve ammunition. This design reinforces a sense of vulnerability, which is essential for maintaining tension in a horror setting. At its best, the game creates moments where every encounter feels risky, and every choice carries weight. However, these moments are not always consistent, and some sections fall into more routine patterns that reduce the impact of the experience. The anthology-like structure is both the game’s defining feature and its main challenge. Because each segment introduces new ideas or variations in tone, there is a constant sense of change, but there is also a lack of cohesion. Transitions between scenarios can feel abrupt, and the mechanics introduced in one section are not always expanded upon before the game moves on to something else. This creates a feeling that the game is exploring concepts rather than fully developing them, which can leave certain ideas feeling underutilized. Narratively, RED NIGHT relies heavily on ambiguity. The presence of the controlling AI provides a loose thread connecting the different segments, but much of the story is left open to interpretation. Rather than delivering a clear sequence of events, the game presents fragments of information that hint at a larger context. This approach aligns with its psychological horror elements, allowing players to fill in the gaps themselves, but it can also make the experience feel disjointed, especially when combined with the shifting structure of the gameplay. Visually, the game shows moments of strong atmospheric design, particularly in its use of lighting and confined spaces to create tension. The environments often feel oppressive and disorienting, reinforcing the sense that the player is being controlled or observed. However, the overall presentation can be inconsistent, with some areas appearing more polished than others. This unevenness reflects the game’s development state, as it currently exists more as a foundation for a larger project than a fully realized experience. The limited amount of content further emphasizes this point. As an Early Access title, RED NIGHT offers only a portion of what it intends to become, making it feel more like a preview than a complete game. While this allows players to engage with its core ideas early, it also means that the experience ends before those ideas can fully mature. The short runtime works in maintaining focus, but it also highlights the lack of depth and expansion within its systems. Despite these shortcomings, there is a clear sense of intent behind RED NIGHT. It does not simply follow established patterns within the horror genre, but instead tries to reinterpret how fear can be presented in an interactive format. Its willingness to experiment with structure and tone gives it a unique identity, even if that identity is not yet fully refined. In the end, RED NIGHT is a game defined by its ambition and its incomplete state. It offers glimpses of a compelling and unconventional horror experience, but its uneven execution and limited scope prevent it from fully realizing that vision. For players interested in experimental horror and willing to engage with a work in progress, it provides an intriguing, if inconsistent, experience that hints at greater potential. Rating: 6/10
