RED: Lucid Nightmare

Hey this is pretty good! It does still have some kinks like going through objects and I did get stuck at one point, it couldve used a little bit more play testing. But all in all the story and atmosphere seems really good so far. It has good pacing and good visuals. [i]RED: Lucid Nightmare[/i] or [i]RED: The Lucid Nightmare[/i] (it has two different titles in the store and the library) is a mad janky game about nightmares involving little kids "running" around with knives and pooping out keys. I originally played it at release, gave up halfway, then figured I'd give it another shot after seeing it receive a few updates. Did it fix any of the problems I experienced during my first playthrough? Not at all! In fact, it [url=https://clips.twitch.tv/ViscousImportantRhinocerosNomNom]probably made things even worse...[/url] So, first up, this game is maybe an hour long depending on how lost you become in the nightmare's maze, or how long it takes your crippled ass to figure out where to go in your own house during the day. There's an investigation into some murder conspiracy during the waking moments, which is super tedious, and come sleep time the drug-fuelled nightmares have you running in circles trying to evade a little Jigsaw looking freak of a girl and trying to startle a little boy to drop his keys. The gameplay loop is basically go from point A to B and then ♥♥♥♥♥♥' I don't know because the game is so inconsistent with its expectations and rules. What rules? You can unlock gates with a crank, with a lever, with a key, even if there's no keyhole. [i]RED: Lucid Nightmare[/i] has some of the most incredibly loud sound effects I've ever had the displeasure of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ my pants to. The crank turning, the gate screeches, the jack-in-box popping, mind shatteringly loud effects are the scariest parts of the game. I can't help by being startled by something louder than Krakatoa erupting back in 1889. Anyway, once you reach the end of day 2 or 3 the game ends and then says it will be continued in the next chapter. Despite the store page saying its a trilogy, this game never sold itself as incomplete which is super misleading on the developer's part and I doubt chapter 2 will ever arrive. There is no conclusion to the first chapter here. Also, I don't really want to stir some ♥♥♥♥ but I'm gonna stir some ♥♥♥♥. Some of the other reviews for this game have only 1 review in their lifetime and haven't logged into Steam for over 100 days. Hmm. Very interesting concept and pacing, really had me going until the 2nd nightmare sequence. (After the first talk with Apollo) sadly I think it is glitched and I couldn't progress. I even restarted the game and did a few things differently to see if it would work, it sadly did not. I do hope they fix this as I do really want to finish this game. It has promise. EDIT: As the dev responded, they have fixed the bug, more than enough reason to give this game a try seeing as the dev is kind and works fast with bugs. Review will be longer or even re-done once I've finished this game.

Just yelled "Oh f*cking sh*t no!" While my husband was on the phone because of this game. Pretty sure it was some vines or a tree that scared me, but I'm not quite sure I shut my computer before I could see. This was the first scene of the game. I now understand that I'm a complete wimp and I might get in trouble with my husband. 10/10

Well, make that 2 negative reviews now. This is a terrible VR game that somehow got more than a handful of "people" to rate this positively. I honestly believe there's fake reviews all over Steam now. You're mostly object-hunting, whether in the dark at nighttime or in the light during the daytime. You're mostly looking for keys to open doors or pulling levers to open up a new section. Meanwhile, you're being chased by one of the monsters or you're chasing a monster trying to sneak behind it to scare it into giving you a key (that is not a joke). There is also traps in the dark. You have a flashlight that you can use to stop the monsters in their tracks or illuminate the way. However, the charge on that flashlight doesn't last for long so you're also looking for batteries. You'll hear all kinds of spooky things and there's also some jump scares. Take too much damage and you have to restart the level. The whole game is point and click navigation. You have full locomotion and smooth turning (it's a bit slow by default). However, you're only using motion controllers as a gamepad. That's right. You're not even holding the flashlight, it just points to wherever you're looking. You actually have this menu section where you're just chatting back and forth while repeatedly hitting the reply button. The game is monochrome. Mostly black and white and red. It's quite ugly to look at actually. Plus there's a confusing story. You're in a wheelchair during the day and investigating something. I never figured out what as the text was very small to read. Then you go to bed and just play object-hunting while avoiding or chasing the monster. It's rather repetitive and just boring. The game ends suddenly. To Be Continued end of Chapter 1. Whole thing took me about 2 hours. [b]Rate 3.5/10. At the end of the day, I regret my 2 hours spent in this game more than the $2 I spent on the game. I love the concept of this game, it's challenging and creepy. The atmosphere was great, the game play was pretty great. My only complaint is that I have yet to finish it because I rage quit after making progress only to die and had to start the section over again. (There should be a save point after you best the little kid in the first part of the maze) I had spent many hours of running around in circles, so I was a bit salty. I do have the desire to finish it though and that's always a good sign. Still recommend to anyone that loves FPS horrors.

Have only played the game a little but I really like the atmosphere. The opening sequence is unique and the start of the game is eerie and intruiging. The one gripe I have is the difficulty navigating the menu screen. Other than that, the game seems interesting and I hope to play more!

Scares seem to be in different places every playthrough gives it good replayability. Great use of limited color pallet and great artwork. Worth checking out if you are into horror games.
