About
REAPER'S ISLE is an open-world, stealth horror game created by a team of students at UW-Stout and Berklee College of Music.
You receive a concerning message from your daughter, a paleontologist stationed on a remote island. After making your way to the isle, you discover horrifying phantoms from the ancient world. Restore power across the map to gain access to the main laboratory where you’ll discover the fate of your missing daughter.
EVADE
Avoid phantom monsters while solving basic puzzles to restore power across the island at watchtowers. By hiding in bushes, or tall grass and moving carefully, you can avoid confrontation. Throw rocks to distract and maneuver skillfully around the phantoms. You must be cautious, as the phantoms will absorb your soul if they touch you, causing you to restart at your last checkpoint.
DISCOVER
Explore the open world environment in first-person perspective. Study plants and creatures to uncover their mysterious origins and behavioral traits to help you survive. Discover logs and signs of former destruction to uncover secrets about the prior island's inhabitants.
UNCOVER
Finally, after restoring power, venture into the lab in the island's depths where you’ll discover the fate of your missing daughter.
AI Content Discloser
Voice acting is created using Murf AI due to the inability to find real voice actors while working on the project. Trust me, we tried! We were originally told we'd be provided voice actors, but when that fell through, we put out memos to our whole college, contacted groups, strangers, etc., and because we wanted proper representation for African American characters, we didn't feel right voicing it ourselves. We chose Murf AI because they work with real paid voice actors, which we felt was the closest morally acceptable choice, as we could not pay anyone else to be a voice actor online because this was a college-made game, and that was not allowed. If anyone ever wants to volunteer to voice act for Reaper's Isle, please reach out to us on our website, as we will always be a human-prioritized game development group.

Full playthrough here: https://youtu.be/lnqyNY30q7Q So this game is pretty mid and has quite a few glitches, but has some promising parts as well the plants make a creepy noise when they work and the giant creatures are actually kind of terrifying looking. The story isn't the greatest, but it's not awful if you make the mistake of pausing the game when you unpause the menu will be there until you get to the final boss The middle mouse button for flash light would not work for me and my xbox controller didn't seem to have a way to flip the light panel switches so I had to use my keyboard/mouse and my controller to have 100% functionality in the game which is dumb af. In the final boss room it took me forever to figure out what to do because some of the objects don't block the wave like they should. The A.I. of the monsters is REALLY bad if the A.I. was improved and the death scenes/sound effects were a bit better this would have been a pretty scary game.
I purposefully went into this game looking for bugs, seeing that it was in early access, and I have yet to find any. The only reason I stopped playing was because there was a fence that wasn't fully secured to the ground that I was able to get underneath, allowing me to get out of bounds. This lead to me falling into an area where I couldn't get out, and it wouldn't let me respawn at my most recent checkpoint. This would mean I'd have to start from the beginning, which I very much didn't want to do. Anyway, the biggest tips I can give to the developers is to make sure the map is 100% how they want it, and to make the audio design better. That's it. I may come back and change my review in the future. FINAL RATING: 4 / 10

Pacing is way too off and tutorials aren't either underrepresanted or very very vague. For example the introduction of the enemy was too quick. Confusing, can you fight it? Can you evade when yes how? It was a lot of learning by doing and that is very inuitive. Also, the mechanics were confusing. One bug I encountered is that I got stuck between a stair case in the first tower and dying as soon as I entered a container east of the lab entrance. The gate for the swamp. It is free, you could try it, but it is very frustrating and lack luster.
https://youtu.be/C754Ye82MJk Hm...
I had fun until I got softlocked and lost all my progress when I tried to restart the game. Maybe it's better this way, now I have a proper reason to go back to this if/when the "official" version gets released. It does have a handful of bugs and things that clearly need polishing, but that's why this is still in early access. I really liked how the game looked though, and the overall vibe was great.
Needs a bit of work. The voice acting could be a lot better to be honest.
I don’t say this lightly: Reaper’s Isle might be one of the most atmospheric indie horror games I’ve played in YEARS. From the moment you step onto the fog-choked island, there’s this crushing sense of mystery, grief, and danger that just seeps into everything. It’s not just creepy—it’s haunting, in the best possible way. The story hits hard. You’re a parent, alone, desperate, searching for your missing daughter—and every flickering light, every creaking floorboard, every distant sound is soaked in dread. The emotional weight is real, and it drives you forward through the terror. And let’s talk about that SOUND DESIGN. Holy hell. Headphones are a must. You’ll hear whispers behind you, phantom footsteps in the dark... it’s terrifying, but you can’t stop. The stealth mechanics are simple but effective—every movement feels like it matters. It’s not about overpowering enemies; it’s about outsmarting something you barely understand. Is it a perfect game? No. But it’s raw, heartfelt, and more immersive than most horror titles three times its budget. For a student project?? This is on another level. You can feel the love and care poured into every part of it. If you're a fan of Silent Hill, Soma, or anything that makes your skin crawl while pulling at your emotions—do yourself a favor. Play this. Share it. Talk about it. Reaper’s Isle deserves to be seen. 🎮💀 10/10, would cry and scream again.
Bad voice acting, no option for mouse sensitivity, no sound atmosphere. 2/10.
