"Rainy City: Pandemic" is a nice relaxingly-paced game with a relevant theme that it addresses respectfully. It brings to mind a lot of other games and movies in terms of style and execution: "Blade Runner" is an obvious inspiration, but there also seems to have been some inspiration taken from "Hotline: Miami" and even the original "Shenmue" in terms of the job simulator aspects. My experience of the game was pretty zen and I found my time with it to be relaxing. The floaty physics of the hover-car played into that vibe. And the mix of 3D and chunky retro graphics was a lot of fun. And the scripted conversations with "Betty" and the customers were really charming, and conveyed a lot of personality and even real sadness from time to time. Recommended!
As a game, it lacked purpose. not only is there no way to win, there is also no end. Neither the plot through dialogue nor the driving experience were enough to carry what lacked meaning to begin with.

A fun little game. I have just as much fun playing it as my kiddos. The stories, dialog, and graphics are clever. Its a good game to show your kids on reading, paying attention, and "following directions". I think gamepad support would make it amazing!
Rainy City: Pandemic is a game where you take the role of Sam, a delivery driver trying to earn enough money to get much needed medical treatment for his sister who has fallen ill. It has a unique style that goes between 2D pixel art during deliveries and the 3D cyberpunk world. The game takes a look at the lives of many characters and really is a reflection on how the current pandemic is impacting all of us, which was surprisingly refreshing and made me feel less alone. The atmosphere is where this game really shines. The music, visuals and subject matter come together to create a distinct feel that you won’t get in many titles. That feeling is just like the constant rain in the game, so if you are looking for something purely uplifting, this probably is not for you. The game definitely does have uplifting moments and characters though. Betty (who you interact with the most) is somehow a ray of sunshine in this gloomy world. The actual driving gameplay can get a bit repetitive (would love if more was added to this), but, for me, the story of each of the characters kept me going. Also, I got better and better at controlling the hover car and started having a lot of fun smoothly flying around the city grabbing the returns. The visuals and feel of the city are great as well. Pros: - Unique art style. Absolutely love the pixel cyberpunk 2D/3D style! - The atmosphere from the art and music combined is excellent - Hover car is fun to fly around the city- The subject matter has a lot of feeling behind it and deals with a difficult topic - The story and characters are unique and engaging Cons: - The back and forth gets a bit repetitive after a while, but I always enjoyed getting to see what Betty had to say. - Would love to see more to do in the city itself Overall, I definitely recommend this title for the experience. I don’t really have anything to compare it to that I have played before aside from a combo of several different games, so it is definitely something original.
Fun and accessible game that was great to play on a rainy night. The music was chill and fit the vibe perfectly. Bonus points for all of the cute cats! Also loved the tone and the characters--it was the right mix of sad and hopeful for gaming in tough times.
Rainy City: Pandemic
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game. Short Review Rainy City Pandemic is a story driven title where the player drives around the city delivering pizza, trying to save up enough money to pay for their sister's medical treatment. The bulk of the gameplay focuses on conversations with other characters and interactions with them. The game takes place in a dystopian future where the the pandemic (the covid-19 pandemic, assumingly) is still rampant. -------- Graphics: 7 / 10 Art is subjective, though the pixel art-style of the game is quite nice. There are a lot of colours and interesting character designs. For the actual driving portion of the game, the art-style takes a bit of a turn into a sort of low-poly 3D sort of style. The city is very gloomy and rainy (hence the title). -------- Sound: 6 / 10 The soundtrack of the game is fine, nothing too memorable but the music sort of fits the gloomy and mellow themes. Aside from that, the rest of the sound effects are decent and do their job. -------- Mechanics: 7 / 10 As mentioned previously, most of the game revolves around talking to other characters, learning about them and their situation. The game tackles issues with living in a world with a constant pandemic. The object of the game is to save up enough money to pay for the players's sister's treatment, though there are other things to manage while playing. Such as hunger and fuel for the car. The other part of the game is navigating through the city, driving around on a flying car, delivering pizza to other characters. The controls can take a little bit of time to get used to, but it is fine. Other NPCs will sometimes have other things for you to do as well. -------- Thanks to the developer for giving me the opportunity to review the title, as well as anyone who took this review into consideration, I hope it helped.
I felt at home in this, delivering food to various customers in my hovertaxi, listening to the pattering of rain and soft jazz. Despite the friendly aesthetic I managed to play through 14 in-game days and barely make enough money. Yes, I took it easy and LOST, big time! Time to try again and maybe waste less cash on eating $20 pizza! The only thing I was not too fond of were the genre-related street names (Gibson Street, etc., it made the city feel less real), the frequent loading interruptions and that the days passed so quickly. Controls were pitch perfect though, leveling the car and finding the apartments at different heights was really fun.
Cute game that feels relatable given the current times. Really enjoyed the music too!
A little bit hard to drive the car. It's dizzy in circles. But still a nice game, I like the pixel style and the music. Hope there will be more supporting languages, like Chinese.
This game is so fun and imaginative! The art and design is fun and unique and I love noticing all of the little details. The gameplay itself is fun, has the right amount of challenge, and is very addicting to play. Do yourself a favor and load this bad boy up, you'll be glad you did!
