Basically this is Raiden 5 (not the best in the series) meets Robotron 2084. Make of that what you will, but it's something different for the bullet hell genre. There are RPG character building-like elements so grinding can help make it easier, and if you make it through the whole game it's about 45-50 minutes since the stages are timed except for the bosses. If it's on a sale pick it up and give it a shot, I recommend it more for Raiden fans and also those who like dual-stick shooters, if nothing else it's an interesting concept that brings something fresh to the bullet hell genre (at least for me)
Am I OK with this Raiden? Sure, I'm a fan of Top-Down Shooting game (since Crimsonland and Alien Shooter era). If you are interesting to buy this game. I recommend to buy Gamepad instead of using Mouse&Keyboard. The ship doesn't follow your cursor when shooting (I don't know what kind of logic with Mouse in this game).
Raiden NOVA is an ambitious reimagining of one of the most recognizable names in classic shoot-’em-up history, taking the long-running Raiden identity and reshaping it into a modern twin-stick action experience. Developed by MOSS Co., Ltd. and published by UFO Interactive Games, the title deliberately steps away from the traditional vertical-scrolling format that defined the series for decades. Instead, it embraces 360-degree movement, free aiming, and roguelike-inspired progression, positioning itself as both a tribute to the franchise’s legacy and an attempt to evolve it for contemporary audiences. From the moment gameplay begins, Raiden NOVA establishes a very different rhythm from its predecessors. Players control their fighter with dual-stick input, allowing independent movement and firing in any direction. This fundamentally alters how threats are perceived and handled, as danger now comes from all angles rather than primarily from above. Combat becomes more spatial and reactive, demanding constant awareness of the entire screen. Dense enemy waves and overlapping bullet patterns maintain the signature intensity Raiden is known for, but the freedom of movement introduces a more fluid, almost arena-style flow that feels closer to modern twin-stick shooters than classic arcade shmups. Progression is built around a run-based structure infused with roguelike elements. Enemies drop experience and resources that allow players to level up mid-run, selecting from randomized upgrades that affect weapons, damage output, survivability, and special abilities. These choices stack and interact, encouraging experimentation and adaptability rather than strict memorization. Each run can feel meaningfully different depending on upgrade rolls and ship selection, giving the game a strong replay loop rooted in build variety rather than static stage mastery alone. Ship selection plays a major role in shaping the experience. Raiden NOVA features a mix of classic fighters from the series’ history alongside new designs created specifically for this format. Each ship has distinct stats, weapon types, and passive traits, subtly shifting how players approach combat. Some favor raw firepower, others emphasize mobility or defensive options, and learning how each ship synergizes with available upgrades becomes a key part of long-term mastery. This variety helps bridge nostalgia with novelty, giving longtime fans recognizable silhouettes while providing mechanical diversity suited to the new gameplay style. The game offers multiple modes that cater to different play preferences. A more structured mode guides players through stages punctuated by boss encounters, evoking a sense of traditional progression, while an endless or survival-oriented mode focuses on endurance and score chasing. Boss fights remain a highlight, retaining the spectacle and pattern-based challenge associated with Raiden, but recontextualized within a free-aim environment. Dodging and positioning during these encounters feels more dynamic, though sometimes less readable than what genre purists may expect. Visually, Raiden NOVA opts for clarity over extravagance. Enemy designs, bullet effects, and explosions are crisp and readable, ensuring that chaos never becomes visually overwhelming despite the sheer volume of on-screen activity. The presentation is functional rather than flashy, prioritizing performance and legibility over detailed backgrounds or cinematic flair. This approach suits the game’s relentless pacing, keeping player focus firmly on survival rather than spectacle. Audio design reinforces the arcade roots of the experience. The soundtrack leans into energetic electronic and techno-inspired themes that keep momentum high, while sound effects provide sharp, immediate feedback for firing, impacts, and power-ups. While not especially memorable on their own, the audio elements work cohesively to support prolonged sessions without becoming distracting, which is essential in a game built around repetition and intensity. The game’s biggest point of contention lies in its departure from classic Raiden structure. Players expecting traditional vertical scrolling, fixed weapon paths, and tightly choreographed stages may find the roguelike randomness and twin-stick mechanics jarring. Upgrade variance can occasionally result in unbalanced runs, and some may feel that the sense of authored progression is diluted compared to older entries. Conversely, players open to hybrid design will likely appreciate the added depth and unpredictability that modern systems bring to the formula. Overall, Raiden NOVA is a confident and experimental evolution of a storied franchise. It does not attempt to replace classic Raiden titles, but instead exists alongside them as an alternative interpretation that blends arcade intensity with contemporary design trends. Its strengths lie in fluid combat, meaningful build variety, and strong replay value driven by experimentation. While it may divide fans of traditional shoot-’em-ups, it succeeds as a fast-paced, challenging twin-stick shooter that respects its roots while boldly stepping in a new direction. Rating: 6/10
與HoloCure類似,成就蠻農的,整體算不錯,裝備可以自己搭,但是如果要全部機體都練會非常農
This is not a Raiden STG....but its the best survivor-like out there. Bravo Moss!
Think Vampire Survivors, but not "number go big", with Raiden ships, an arcade mode, and twin-stick shooting action. People often compare it to PS2 games, but I think that is a positive thing for this game, the aesthetic is really good.
i saw this and my initial reaction was "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this looks so cool" the flash game i played on coolmathgames.com was more fun. other reviews go into more detail better than I ever can, but I can testify the whole thing feels effortless, and lacking in soul. also some of the ingame graphics look AI generated i paid $9 for this game and it feels like it'd have been worth it at $3
I love this game. Its a twin stick shooter that feels a lot like a Vampire Survivors type game. I think i like it better than all the other Raidens
