It's a very cool concept of segmenting rolls and requiring communication between them. The game has a lot of potential to be one of the best space simulation games out there. However, at it's current state, that's all there is to do. Your captain tells you to go somewhere, you go there, there will be some static objects to shoot, you shoot them, there is probably a base there, you shoot it, you get absolutely nothing for doing this, and repeat the process. It was fun for about an hour, but once you realize that there is no objective, no salvage, no leveling, no money making, no exploring and no story, it all just falls apart. It was released 2 years ago after this review. I played it a year ago, but couldn't find anyone to even play with. There are people playing, but it still doesn't cut it as a game just yet. I look forward to this game and others, but it seems like it's another one that stuck in perpetual development until no one cares any more. I'll change my recommendation when the game is updated to the point of being more than a cool concept.
Hey, did you like Artemis? Complex UI's and super hardcore learning curve? Space? SPACE?!? yeah, probably a bit tough to grab and go, but grab a few friends and laugh like maniacs as you repeatedly fire off into nothingness while your helmsman decided that asteroid would make a great hood ornament. Science studies the bottom of their glass (what, you aren't drinking by now?) while engineering tries to turn everything around them into some trek scale metaphor. Definitely a party game if you have teamspeak, ABSOLUTELY a party game if you have drunk jackasses enough to fill a ship or two. 10/10 "I cannah get the rating any higher, captain!"

I backed this game on Kickstarter and it has come a long way. It is still a work in progress but if you play with friends it is very fun. It would be better with voice chat but you can use TeamSpeak. If you like Star Trek this is the game for you. Teamwork is a must. If your on a good ship with a good crew nothing is better. P.S. The DLC is just actually buying the game. The free version is just the demo (which is still fun). You can also play on your Iphone or Android and the players playing on Mobile can play on the same ships as the players on PC and Mac.
It pains me to say this seeing as how I was one of the main people to put effort into making this game better (I wrote the Project Elpis expansion for this game), but it's dead. It's not the lack of updates for the bugs in the game (there are still a few, but nothing game breaking) that killed it. No. No one plays the game anymore because while it's fun to shoot things in space and such, the developer drove the last nail in the coffin for it by REMOVING LAN PLAY FROM THE GAME. Yeah, it's a 4 year old game. Perhaps it shouldn't be supported anymore. But placing something critical for the game (LAN play is the best way to play this) and letting your licence expire for this part of the game after you took peoples money is just not something I can support anymore. Yeah, various EA games turn off their servers after 4 years or so and that sucks as well. But Carmine is NOT EA. Well, perhaps he is now. To be fair, Carmine says the 3rd party is the one to blame, but a solution exists. Release the version of the software that has a non-expiring licence like he provided me. So he is able to solve this dilemma. So overall, this game is crippled and can only be played online now. I, for one, will not be tricked again by Mr. Guida again. EDIT (July 24, 2017): So Mr. Guida states that there is no way to get the 3rd party server running and the CEO of the company Photon (which provides the LAN and Cloud services) is saying wouldn't renew his license due to the company no longer offering that option. Why then are they still selling (and offering a free on-site server for 100 connections free) the service then? https://i.imgur.com/giDBHYz.png I signed up and wanted to test it out to make sure that I could download it. http://prntscr.com/fzojwt http://prntscr.com/fzokpf I can not get the server to activate with this because I lack the App ID within the licence and such. But Mr. Guida can download the free licence that is unlimited and provide that file in a new server program and give it out. The only way he may not be able to is if Photon decided that his game is no longer allowed on the service. When Mr. Guida states that the company is no longer supporting the server program for stand-alone, he is simply being lied to by the people at the company or he is being disingenuous. I will leave it up to the players here to decide, but there is a solution for getting back LAN to this game at the time of me writing this. I will keep editing this review if things change since Mr. Guida has decided to block me from not only the forums here, but also the facebook page and the reddit page. He is, of course, allowed to do this as it's his platform. However, I feel this information needs to be given to players who bought a LAN game and now are not able to play it in LAN form. EDIT (Feb 10, 2023) I replaced the link for photon (https://www.photonengine.com/server/pricing#) to a picture of what it says currently. just in case it ever goes under. The server for 100 people is still free.
Quintet is a fun cooperative experience, it's F2P strategy helps it grow and get more people involved with the game, and the 5/20$ expansions are completely optional. PROS

Co-op online multiplayer actually feels like flying a real spacecraft
5 races,4 types of ships(trio was OP, they added a price to that), 20 different machines of destrucion
Cons

Small bugs here and there
Inexperienced players, including myself. Easily fixable by adding a bigger tutorial
In the end this game deserves: 4 pro crew members out of 5, best captain ever, and a mentor for 5th crew member #forthesakeofit
After playing Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator a lot I finally wanted to try Quintet, which I did consider a clone before - yet the developer himself states he didn't know of Artemis when he started Quintet (https://steamcommunity.com/app/340350/discussions/0/617335934136384797/?insideModal=1#c617335934137507453) - let's just believe that. So the first impression of Quintet was: A LOT more polished interface - it actually looked like a game from after 1995. It still also has its flaws (why do I have to go to sub menus to decide whether I want to play single player, multi player over lan or multi player over the internet) - but still the interface is a lot more intuitive and usable. Never enter IP addresses manually anymore. On second view, it also looked like a lot more playable over the internet. I could just hop onto a server directly and start playing, very easy! In comparison, Artemis is really difficult to organize a game on the internet... Additionally, Quintet features clients for virtually ANY OS: Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, iOS, Browser(!)... that makes gathering your friends a lot easier. The quick and easy start and very usable interface also took place within the game: Compared to Artemis, it's a lot more fast-paced, action starts right away, no big strategic planning from what I saw. This has its pros and cons of course: It's very user-friendly and beginner-friendly, but it's not as deep a simulation as Artemis is. I've only tested Quintet over the internet yet. I love Artemis for it's social game factor - a bunch of people sitting in one room shouting commands & information at each other. As I've not played Quintet this way, I can only assume the following: Due to the fast-paced nature and the different style (e.g. all stations in Quintet have the full 3D view, while the stations in Artemis only have their specific computer system) I assume the game to be less communicative than Artemis. My personal conclusion is: Artemis is best for deep and long play with your friends at home, Quintet is great for a quick spontaneous game over the internet, alone or in a group.
Quintet is a game that breathes new life into sci-fi space combat by introducing the ability to fly one ship with multiple people. The free version gets a little boring when playing it by yourself, but that's OK because it was designed to be played with friends. With friends it never gets old, blowing up enemy hoards and shouting commands to your crew. But, this isn't everything it has to offer because if you pay only $5 you get access to a full role-play universe that I haven't even touched yet. To make it simple: The Pro's:

Wonderful Coop
Multiple Missions
Open World (Play with anyone and everyone)
The ability to create scenarios
And more to discover for yourself
The Con's:

When you halt your thrust you instantly stop moving instead of free floating
When alone the free version get's a little old
Not sure what else I could complain about.
Overall it's a great coop game, but alone (with the free version) it's a little boring.
Great base for a game, has a ton of potential and is really fun. All I would ask for is more meaning to the game than just going around and blowing up ships, heres some idea's *Maybe like a point system with better costumization (but plz dont make it money based customization :D) *Different levels of control since the basic controls are too easy most of the time *In-game voice chat *Smoother and more zoomed out camera would be nice ~This game is amazing~
The best game that (almost) never was This game was way ahead of it's time in terms of co-op multiplayer, there is still nothing like it out there, it's kind of a sci-fi Hell Let Loose/Squad. I wish someone would fund a new version of this game.
