This is a really fun game, simple to learn but hard to master. When i watched the trailer I was interested in the graphics and how smooth the movement looked and I wasn't wrong; the graphics are really sharp and pretty and the movement feels nice after you get used to the fact that the wizard is really floaty. You have your dash and your main and secondary spells to fight enemies and get coins, and with that money you buy upgrades to your spells and some passive abilities, and what I like about that is that those upgrades are significative, you feel way more powerful just after upgrading one spell and it's fun to return to already beaten stages to overpower enemies that were harder before. The only thing I think need a fix is the fact that you don't attract the money you win and sometimes that money falls into spikes and you can't really get it. It also seems to be the work of a solo developer, and that's impressive. Really recommended.
Game is actually pretty fun, surprised it hasn't popped off more.
Really fun, yet simple game, and well worth its price.

Quest of Wizard is a retro-inspired action platformer created by Alexey Suslin and brought to Steam by WhisperGames. It is a game that wears its simplicity as a badge of honor, presenting a straightforward journey through trap-laden stages, secret-filled corridors, and boss battles that punctuate each area. At its heart, it is a celebration of classic side-scrolling design, where precise jumps, quick reflexes, and a bit of patience are the keys to progress. Rather than overwhelming players with systems or heavy story beats, the game opts for a lean structure built around levels that can be tackled in quick sessions, making it approachable while still demanding. The structure is built around an overworld map that lets you select individual stages, giving the experience an almost arcade-like rhythm. Each level is compact, filled with hazards such as spikes, moving platforms, and environmental traps, alongside a steady lineup of enemies to dispatch. Exploration is rewarded with hidden chests and secret areas that encourage you to test walls, jump off the obvious path, or take risks to grab extra loot. Gold collected during your travels becomes the currency for progression, allowing you to purchase or upgrade spells. This upgrade layer provides a modest but meaningful sense of growth, letting you tweak your toolkit between attempts and adding a replay incentive for earlier levels when new spells open fresh possibilities. Combat and abilities provide variety within the otherwise traditional platforming foundation. Starting with basic spells, you gradually expand your arsenal, experimenting with different effects to find combinations that suit your style. While the core mechanics remain rooted in timing your jumps and avoiding hazards, the addition of magic gives encounters an extra layer of decision-making. Do you clear out enemies from a distance before navigating a gauntlet of spikes, or conserve your spells for a tougher challenge up ahead? These choices keep the action from feeling too repetitive, and they give each run a slightly different flavor. Boss fights stand out as the main tests of skill, serving as climactic encounters that break up the standard platforming flow. They lean on classic design: pattern recognition, spacing, and patience are essential, with each boss requiring you to learn its quirks before finding consistent openings to strike. These encounters can spike in difficulty compared to the stages that precede them, which may frustrate some players, but they also provide a satisfying payoff when finally defeated. The balance isn’t always perfect, but the inclusion of bosses helps give the game structure and purpose beyond simply moving from one stage to the next. The presentation is deliberately minimal, with a pixelated art style that favors clarity over spectacle. Levels are cleanly designed, making it easy to spot traps, enemies, and potential secrets without visual clutter. Animation is simple but functional, keeping the focus squarely on gameplay rather than flourishes. The soundtrack and sound effects follow the same philosophy: they are not elaborate or cinematic, but they support the retro feel and give each action the right amount of feedback. While it may not be visually or aurally striking compared to bigger indie releases, the stripped-down style aligns with the game’s overall design philosophy. Quest of Wizard is not trying to be a sweeping, modern reimagining of platformers—it is a small, focused project that aims to deliver a bite-sized challenge with light progression hooks. Its charm lies in its straightforwardness and the satisfaction of uncovering secrets or surviving a tough series of traps. For players who grew up with classic platformers, there is a sense of familiarity and comfort here, while newcomers may find it an accessible entry point that doesn’t overcomplicate its design. The low price point and availability of a demo make it easy to try without much risk, which suits a game of this scale perfectly. Ultimately, Quest of Wizard succeeds as a compact, nostalgic experience that respects your time. It doesn’t reinvent the genre, and it doesn’t try to, but what it offers is solidly built and rewarding in short bursts. For players looking for a modest, retro-style adventure with an emphasis on precision platforming, secrets, and incremental growth through spell upgrades, it delivers exactly what it promises. It may not hold attention for dozens of hours, but as a concise, affordable experience, it has plenty of appeal for fans of classic action platformers. Rating: 7/10

It's a good little game that is initially very engaging because of the way it builds on old recipes, it feels very similar to a 16bit amiga game and at the same time it offers a nice challenge with level memorization. But it overstays its welcome a bit, toward the end the levels start repeating themselves and the upgrade system, in the end doesn't bring anything to the game. The game would have been better if it was shorter. At least it's cheap.
