About
This isn't a traditional platformer, or a point and click. It's a choose-your-own-adventure visual novel in pixel form, where multiple playthroughs reveal multiple paths through the scenarios you encounter, which end up interacting and influencing each other!
It's a straightforwardly lovely day in Hus. It's always a lovely day in Hus. That's not suspicious at all! The bovey is grazing in the field, the faer are roaming around town causing chaos, the shadies are out preaching (they're not a cult!), and a giant stone portal to another dimension has appeared in the woods.
I hope nothing goes hideously wrong and results in an adventure.
So what's it like to play?
It's a pixelated choose your own adventure. This isn't a story you're told, it's a story your choices create. Meet characters, make choices, unfold the story.
Choices matter. Branching story paths can lead your heroes and villains to vastly different fates.
Play through multiple times, using your knowledge of past choices to unlock new endings and new secrets!
Hand crafted retro resolution pixel art in a cute style that definitely doesn't unexpectedly turn creepy. Well, it probably won't. Maybe. Actually, it might. Actually, probably will.
Not a cult.
This is the journey of Ren, a twenty-something shepardess who gets thrown into a multiversal conflict while on a fetch quest to find her lost flock. She'll have the fates of her friends in her hands, and YOU will have to help her make the difficult choices.
Will she prevail? Will anyone survive? Why does everything pseudo-mystic have Quantum in the title? These questions and more, or fewer, may or may not be answered!
Developed with BAFTA nominated writer Paul "Mr Biffo" Rose, and featuring guest writer Stephanie "Thank God For Me" Sterling.

"Instead of laying on the exposition and world building, we as the player are dropped into a world that feels lived in. Especially with a romantic relationship, instead of grabbing us by the throat and telling us that character X & Y care for each other and you should care too! They are just a couple, but get past that and they have layers." - Scott's Game Asylum.
"As a fan of narrative driven games, let me tell you, I am loving this." - Drewlusion, variety streamer.

a really fun and enjoyable game. I got "an ending" but I realise now that's just the start of the game. So many different paths to follow , so many different waveforms to collapse. I can see this keeping me busy for a while yet. 10/10 great fun, well written with self referential humour. Highly recommended
It's not for everyone. It's difficult to explain. It's essential. Quantum Witch is a short game, you'll finish your first game in 2-3 hours. But would you say you'd finished a Choose Your Own Adventure game book the first time you see "The End"? It's got its own humour, you have to be ready for your serious story of attacking and/or dethroning God to have puns about a failed juicer company. You need to accept there's some text to read, that it's platform presented without being a platformer while also being a point and ciick adventure where you neither point nor click. There is no neat genre stool here. But if you do, you have never played anything quite like this. You've never seen anything quite like this. There's never been a world quite like this. This is exactly what an indie game should be, it's not for everyone but that's the point. It would not have got over the threshold of the board room at UbiSoft. There IS a chance you'll not vibe and ditch it quickly. But... what if you don't. UbiSoft will never make your favourite game of a year, and if they did they'd turn off the servers before you finished it. Quantum Witch? It might just be. And it costs bugger all. And you get to keep it forever (it doesn't require steam). And there's 50 "achievements" to dig into the world for. It's a risk but if it wasn't it'd just be another 6/10 trudge of a game, rather than, just maybe, the best, most impactful, funniest, cleverest thing you'll play this year. It's not a cult.
I feel like I've just started to scratch the surface of this game, but it gripped me good and it's not letting go. I love the humor so far, it reminds me of the witty, sometimes fourth-wall breaking humor of undertale and I haven't laughed at a game as often in a really long time. The pixel art is beautiful in its simplicity, and I can already tell that the themes it's delving into will be worth pondering and analyzing. I haven't gotten to the end yet, but I can't stop thinking about it, can't wait to play it more!
This is E3.
Visually Quantum Witch is a platformer with a traditional speech system for NPCs. You find items, you trade/use said items, and you progress. It can be considered short for the detail of some games. However, this is not what it is at all. Quantum Witch is a game about rebellion. About having to make difficult decisions that may affect you and other people, and not necessarily positive. You have to escape cults, try to protect your loved ones, and other things I can't mention without spoiling the game. You also get a joyously LGBTQ+ experience, which is wonderful for something so dark at times. The music, hand crafted for the experience, is an incredible piece of work. Verging from uplifting to Twin Peaks-esqe downright offbeat surrealism. Play it once and you may experience SOME of these things. But play it more times and the witty, surreal, and referential dialogue will make the game stand out. This is a truly independent gaming experience. I loved it.
I have played through this twice now, which is pretty much mandatory at least. I will likely play it a third time too. I enjoyed the retro game references and the cute pixel art. I would liken it to SNES style graphics (along with some nice Parallax scrolling) which was my preferred era. There are lot of positives in the game. Nikki seems to have put a lot of themselves into this game. There is a strong female lead and core LGBTQ+ values. Releasing it during pride month seems to be good timing. There's a real air of mystery about the plot and it certainly took twists into areas I wasn't expecting. The humour is very Nikki and there are some nice fourth wall breaking jokes. I do wonder if one or two moments may be a bit too inside humour though (the interesting hint system for one). The game starts up with a very nice slow pace, almost resembling a Stardew Valley level of cuteness. The night/day system worked well, although it did seem to cycle rather quickly. The negatives I have are minor ones and could be updated in the future. Lack of character names when speaking is challenging for someone like me who forgets everyone's name. Every door saying "Exit" when some are an entrance or a pathway caused some minor confusion at times (i.e going out the door I just came in). There was only one minor typo I noticed and it was from Lev, he said "You make sure, come at see me at my lab if you can't find her". On the whole a good game and one Nikki should be proud of. £10 for this seems good value, there's more than enough content to get that your moneys worth for that.
A relatively short but incredible memorable narrative game that just makes you want to play it again and again to find out how things could have gone if you did things differently. I was lucky enough to get to interview Nikki Jay about Quantum Witch (highly recommend playing the game before reading), and that just made me love what I experienced during my playtime all the more. The graphics & music feel perfect for the style of game and environments. The story changes constantly based on how you approach each situation, and the takes a lot of pride in its characters. If you've got a couple of hours free you can play a couple of runs to try out different choices, and gosh there's a lot of choices here to make! I hope you'll fall in love with Quantum Witch the way I have. https://enbykaiju.com/2025/07/08/digital-diversity-quantum-witch/
Well written so far and contains a surprising amount of depth. Also plays perfectly on a handheld / Steamdeck. Clearly a labor of love, this game is worth your time and money.
First Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and now this?! What a year for indies! I love this game! It's so interesting and not quite like anything else. Choices matter but there's a hidden game plus mode. Unlocking everything is the true adventure and challenge of this superbly written gem. I highly recommend it to anyone! It's more cosy than Last Door but can get pretty dark. The humor is fantastic and it'll break a 4th wall or two. There are some bits where skill can matter too but the point is to collect game over screens until you have gotten them all kinda like Stanley Parable. ;) Underneath the humor and whimsy is a serious often dark reflection on freedom and choice. This game will move you if you let it (and you absolutely should).
This is a breezy, yet deep indie experience that uses the mechanics of a platform game to tell the kind of story you'd usually get in a point and click, or text adventure.. Charmingly realised and with a lot to say, especially if you avail yourself of repeated plays to find out what else you could have done and what ending you could have achieved.
