Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/0OYagu7d48U This is a competent roguelite arena shooter where you're wheelchair bound. Yes, you heard that correctly. It's an interesting twist on the FPS formula because you need to decide whether to use your hand motion controller to move along or to shoot. You can use one hand for locomotion (half-speed) and one hand for your pistol. That's perfect for us gamers who are pros at using one hand. However, if you want to use something a little bit more powerful then you'll have to be a sitting duck and use both hands to handle your two-handed weapon for optimal spraying and praying. Game is running on the Unreal Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting a steady 72 fps on high graphical settings (I need to set it back to 90 fps on Oculus settings). I did notice some bugs, like enemies going half-way through walls. The enemy AI is a little strange as sometimes they are super aggressive and other times very passive. You do have full locomotion and smooth turning available. This game is meant to be played seated (joystick movement, not rotating wheels with hands). There is a nice variety of enemies, but not interesting enemy design. There's some boss fights as well, if you get far enough. There's also some nice upgrades and weapons attachments and weapon unlocks. Rate 6.5/10. Game is slow to start because you're under-powered, but gets better the more you play. Just needs more interesting map design, enemy design, & deeper progression.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. Poor execution of a good idea. Movement is sickening, plot is childish and the game overall feels cheap. Bugs are all over the place. There are so much other great games, I just don't recommend you to waste your time on this one.
What an unusual concept that you're placed into a wheelchair like you're Davros - leader of the Daleks. You travel around a cyberpunk themed city shooting people, dual-wielding shotguns, pistols and assault rifles, moving at a very Robocop-like pace, against synthetic enemies. In, VR of all things. It's pretty cool. I really enjoyed playing it. As you can tell from the video. It is a rogue-light and it's really fun to play once you get used to the mechanics of being tied a wheelchair, which limits your movement. I mean, some people have said when playing, they feel like, they've got a bit more of an appreciation of what it's actually like to be in a wheelchair because you're restricted. So, if you imagine your typical shooter where you can strafe left and right very easily to dodge incoming fire, you, develop your tactics based on that. But when you're grounded in a wheelchair, you don't have that flexibility of movement. And it changes the gameplay and you've got to tailor your approach to things to suit that. I find that this game captures that element really well and yeah, it's fun to play. I highly recommend it. Go check it out. If you've got VR, there's a Quest 3 version and there's a Steam VR version. Obviously, the Steam VR version is graphically better, but they're essentially the same games. https://youtu.be/PKo34yeJbL8
Imagine this, you're a bad-ass with a gun, in a wheelchair, dodging gunfire, taking cover and fighting the anti cyborg revolution while also being half machine yourself... now imagine getting bested by a flight of stairs, narrow doorways and street curbs... this game lets you experience the every day struggle of someone who cannot choose to stand up and it makes me grateful that I can. "you lied to the guy in the chair" No lie i jumped out and immediately wrote this review. so many weapons and upgrades and just hilarious circumstances all while including those who need accessible games.. its gonna be so good! PLEASE add achievements and if possible, cards so i can add this title to my trophy case! I am going to be streaming this game in the very near future https://www.twitch.tv/itzvioletpanda Check out my other VR reviews https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44403058
Works on Reverb G2. Disclaimer: I've received this game for free via Curator Connect. Quantum Threshold is a bland rogue-lite shooter with weird movement scheme. The game looks awful and barely comprehensible, while also being a terrible shooter. Its unique locomotion mechanic is not fun at all: wheelchair movement is slow and clunky, it does not fit action gameplay at all. Procedurally generated levels are ugly and repetitive, rogue-lite elements bring almost no variety to different playthroughs. Gunplay feels unsatisfying, although I've only tried a few starting pistols. Environments and especially enemies look very ugly, too many screaming colors make them painful to look at. Antialising is low or non-existent, even on high graphical settings slanted surfaces constantly look jagged.
Great little game. I like how it encourages trying different weapons and the weapons feel great. Lots of customization options for accesibility and a very unique idea for a game, and executed well. Enjoyed it on quest and picked it up on sale for steam now that I have a PC. Worth full price though :)
In this game, you cannot turn by using my head like every other VR game I have to use artificial locomotion which causes extreme nausea. Regret purchase!!!
