Quantum Suicide

If you played 999 or the other Zero Escape games then this is highly recommended. A bit light on puzzles, but characterisation and games are very compelling. Voices are an acquired taste, I played with voices off and dubbed my own.

I'm a huge fan of games like Danganronpa and Zero Escape series, Raging Loop, Your Turn to Die, etc but this game is simply nowhere as good in comparison. I was expecting that this game would fill the itch but nah, it is very disappointing. Even Birth ME Code is a better game. Even though Quantum Suicide has a better art and production value, the writing is weak, pacing is poor, and everything from the death scene to the games just feels not impactful at all. Atmosphere is important for these kind of death games, but this game totally lack any tension whatsoever, I don't even feel anything when myself or someone else die, it's just very abrupt. The romance is extremely rushed and makes no sense, character progression is non-existent. I don't even feel like slogging through the game and going through all the repeat and meaningless text after reading other reviews that are disappointed with the true ending. Well, many games has disappointing end, such as Raging Loop, but the journey is worth as that game keeps me hooked through most of the story, but this game feels like a slog past first few ending. Making people play both gender protagonist and both having slightly different story is a TERRIBLE design decision. That thing gotta go. Romance based on who survives rather than flags is also a terrible design decision, and is a major weakness for the game. There is a reason why other games like it either feature no romance, or a single fixed romance that is related to the story, because a single fully fleshed storyline is far better than short, rushed, abrupt story because you need to write multiple story. The selection of protagonist gender and multiple romance option is totally a typical "crowdfunding" feature creep trying to please everyone, and a unnecessary one for this kind of game because it would be insane amount of writing required to keep the quality high. I think the idea of the game is neat but the execution is poor, the beginning is alright and game just goes downhill from there. I expected more from this, I really do.

Quantum Suicide is a really interesting VN game that takes place across multiple alternate realities where you play as both a male and a female character. The game is almost entirely voiced although I did run into some alternate reality characters that didn't seem to have voice actors they were few and far between. Quantum Suicide has an innovative timeline system that lets you revisit sections of the game across multiple realities so you can make different choices. I liked this system much more than the traditional restart the game and skip text until you find a choice or unread text type of play that you might find in traditional visual novel games. Another part of Quantum Suicide that I liked quite a bit were the deletion games themselves, It was fun trying to solve the games puzzles not only to save yourself but to try to manipulate the outcomes to see what deaths were available in that particular timeline. Am I a monster for trying to get Melody killed in every timeline? Well maybe but I did it anyway. During my play-through I became stuck and was missing the last few segments of timeline. I eventually posted a help topic to try to get some hints. A short time later though I figured it out and deleted the thread. Despite deleting my topic one of the developers reached out to me just to make sure I wasn't still having trouble with the game. It's pretty clear (to me anyway) that the folks who worked on this game put a lot of passion and energy into it. I think that passion shines through not only in the quality of the game itself but also in the way they interact with the community. Keep up the great work, I look forward to more releases from Cotton Candy Cyanide in the future. PS: There are some awesome easter eggs for both SoulSet and The Letter in this game that were a lot of fun.

Definitely worth it if you're fan of Danganronpa or Zero Escape. This game picks and chooses some of DR and ZE's best elements, like a high-octane VN plot, FTE-type character building, multiple pathways and endings, and, of course, a murderous mastermind in control of the ship. The writers and developers are true fans of the genre and it shows. Also, I want to highlight that this VN's art is so professionally done. Fantastic replayability value as well.

This game really needed some more time to polish it all up. Yeah, I had a hunch that the 'YOU DIED' screen was a placeholder intended to be removed during development and decompiling proved me right. Impressive work with the voice acting and Japanese TL however. I hope you do better next time :D

I think this game is quite solid. If you enjoy games in this genre then this is right for you -- that said, it's not nearly as polished as some other Uchikoshi-inspired works. After wrapping up every ending, it was worth the play, even if there wasn't ever a huge reveal in the end. I did really hope that the minigames were going to be harder to figure out, but the nature of the game basically just means you try most permutations until you get the ending you want. The secret endings are hidden behind some rather obtuse gates (I was putting in any line of text that seemed viable until a thread told me it was an extension of what I assumed it was). It was a bit of a miss in otherwise a strong game. I really loved the idea and execution of D/AI so much that I was surprised it hasn't been done in a mainline game; they were cooking with it and honestly worth the price tag just to experience that.

Insert complaining that Steam doesn't allow mixed reviews. Quantum Suicide is a fine game. It has its moments and its characters that I liked, particularly 90% of the stuff to do with Dai, however there is a very clear lack of polish put behind everything. Minor inconsistencies can be seen through out such as issues with sprites layering, issues with voice lines keeping in retakes, and issues with writing that really could have used a second look over. None of these on their own break the experience, but it gives the impression that there wasn't much care put into the game... So why should you or I care about it either?
