Putrefaction, developed and published by Kazakov Oleg, is a fast-paced first-person shooter that pays homage to the classic FPS titles of the 1990s. Drawing inspiration from games like Doom and Quake, it immerses players in a grim, near-future world where a mysterious infection has transformed humans into horrific, zombie-like creatures. Players step into the shoes of an elite operative sent to investigate an abandoned mountain research facility, uncovering the origins of the outbreak while navigating claustrophobic corridors and open combat arenas. The narrative is intentionally minimal, allowing the emphasis to remain firmly on fluid, relentless action rather than elaborate storytelling. The core gameplay of Putrefaction is built around high-intensity combat and rapid movement. Players have access to a diverse arsenal, from standard firearms to more unconventional weapons, each offering unique mechanics and alternate fire modes. The campaign mode guides players through a series of progressively challenging levels, while a survival mode offers endless waves of enemies that test reflexes, strategy, and resource management. Combat encourages quick thinking and constant adaptation, as enemies attack in groups with varying behaviors, keeping encounters tense and unpredictable. Visually, the game embraces a retro, low-resolution style reminiscent of early 3D shooters, which reinforces its nostalgic appeal. The environments are designed to be both atmospheric and functional, with darkened corridors, open arenas, and hidden pathways that enhance exploration and combat strategy. Enemy designs are varied and grotesque, with larger, more formidable bosses providing memorable challenges that require careful observation and tactical response. Despite the dated graphics, the overall visual direction effectively conveys a sense of danger and decay, contributing to the oppressive atmosphere of the infected facility. The sound design complements the gameplay well, featuring a mix of pounding electronic beats and ambient noises that heighten tension during exploration and combat. Weapon sounds are punchy and satisfying, while enemy growls and environmental effects immerse players in the hostile world. Music and sound cues work together to maintain a sense of urgency, particularly in survival mode, where waves of enemies can quickly overwhelm unprepared players. While Putrefaction delivers a solid old-school shooter experience, it is not without its limitations. Some players may find the level design somewhat linear, with environments occasionally feeling repetitive. Performance can also be affected during moments of heavy enemy presence, and the AI, while functional, sometimes exhibits predictable patterns that reduce the challenge in certain encounters. However, these issues are minor compared to the intensity and enjoyment offered by the core combat mechanics. Overall, Putrefaction stands as a tribute to classic first-person shooters, combining fast-paced action, a varied arsenal, and a grim, immersive setting. Its retro-inspired visuals, relentless combat, and challenging survival mode offer an experience that will appeal to fans of the genre seeking a nostalgic yet engaging adventure. While it may not offer the depth or polish of modern FPS titles, it succeeds in capturing the thrill and immediacy that defined the golden era of shooters. Rating: 7/10

Don't play this. Instead go play the excellent Putrefaction 2, a whole lot of fun, leap and bounds better that this first try. But not Putrefaction 1: rather poorly made, unacepptable even for 2015. Beat final boss out of curiosity, and no joy. But so glad that the dev progressed to shine with Putrefaction 2, and also Gedonia 1 and 2, good for him !.
This is very good, a quick game, but It is enjoyable for what it is. The game is very much inspired by doom, basically just go room, to room killing anything that moves. There are 2 boss fights, on that is a bullet sponge, and the other that has some strategy to it. Overall this is quiet good, and I am impressed.

Don't even bother. Short, boring and ugly. Some typical bugs of that kind of junk like being stuck between some environment elements. Last boss really annoying. The only two good things about this game are some enemies animations and rocket launcher, it really has a punch.
Even if by some miracle I'm able to finish this game it's going to be negative regardless. Very bland horror shooter with bad hit detection and mind-numbingly poorly designed boss battles, with no ability to save and repeat the same awful thing over and over again. Whoever designed this final boss should never make a videogame again it's complete poorly designed trash, hit detection is broken, freeze ray will not freeze the boss as it's supposed to, avoid at all cost.
