https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vyufzTCd-k I just played through a few different VR games tonight that were given to me by various VR devs for review. Out of all of them, Push for Emor hooked me the hardest. It is hard to pinpoint what other game it is most alike, but I definitely see signs of influences from Deus Ex and for some reason I am reminded of my first time playing Shadow of the Empire on N64. The cyberpunk atmosphere is heavily derivative of Blade Runner (my favorite movie) which totally rules. My favorite moment so far was having the techno soundtrack bumping while I watched a mothership drop down an entire air superiority platform just in front of me. Been a while since I've played a VR game that had me wanting more. As one comparison, I played Solus Project for a while but it lacks the RPG/action elements I itch for. Push for Emor scratches those. Pros: - Great 90's sci-fi RPG feel - Not a wave shooter - Hybrid sandbox/story driven game - Very intuitive controls, UI and quest directive (too much hand holding? Not sure, only played an hour so far) - Loving the variety of ships (and MECHS!), excited to pilot others. - Dialogue is witty and had me laughing Cons/bugs/suggestions: - If you don't have an iron stomach and VR legs I could see an issue there. - I was getting more hurt by the environment than enemies (again, only first hour) - In boarding an enemy wreck I was shot through the walls a few times (I know others have reported this issue) - Sometimes waypoints blocked out the environment. Some transparency might help this.
Bad polishing, not worth the price.
Abandonware. Don't bother getting this crap.
Finally a VR game that isn't a wave based shooter! Controls are easy to pickup and the movement is none nausiating which is always a treat. Quest text is hilarious which keeps you engaged, everything has a nice layout to it so you can just plug in and get going! On getting a sword i decided i was a space marine and would stab everything to death regardless of consequences... yelling "FOR THE EMPRAH" on each swipe. Forgot to shut window blinds... neighbours probably looked in seeing my plodding around the centre of the room waving like a maniac shouting to some deity. 10/10 would alienate local community again. Edit: Ms Lottie... best character ever!
Push for Emor is a very ambitious project by a single developer. Remember, that as good as this game looks, it's also 1) in early access, and 2) being done by a single person. That being said, it's a great project and so far a lot of fun. There isn't anything else like it out there, it's essentially a single player indy RPG, and shooter. Due to the engine itself and the fact that vr is very demanding, you may have some performance issues in places, but that aspect is being worked on. This game receives updates often. I was given a QA copy of this well before early access and helped provide feedback on the movement systems (previously there was only pad, and much of the menus were delegated to "sides" of the pad) and some of the inputs and menu systems. The developer has taken to this wholeheartedly, even though I can be a bit bullish on the topic of movement in vr as it's an area of independent study for me. The developer WILL consider your feedback, and this is a very important thing to note. I have great confidence that as long as Garry doesn't burn out, this game will become something really great. Give it a shot, or keep your eye on it for the future.
https://youtu.be/UIFJWYA8hzw https://youtu.be/8q-fxqcjuEA The Push for Emor is our first shot at an open world FPS. And in part one at least, I'm liking what I see. Sure it's super Indie looking. I hadn't really expected much else. There are some kinks to be worked out for sure. Locomotion being chief but thankfully the dev has already announced plans to add in an Onward style locomotion system: http://store.steampowered.com/news/externalpost/steam_community_announcements/234577531178256412 There are some other struggles, like knowing where you're supposed to hold your weapons to be able to swap them out or that I wish I could set up my own ship controls. But then you remember that this isn't wave shooter and you're just happy to have something different!!! Joking aside, the first time I got on the speeder and started zooming around, it was great. I started grinning like an idiot while jumping over ridges in the mountains. Part two is a bit rougher around the edges but ends on a high note when we get back on track with questing. If you can overlook some of the EA/Indie dev flaws, there's a gem of an experience here waiting to be polished up. I've been speaking with the dev and he really seems like he genuinely cares about the game and wants to make it better. I hope it gets the support it needs. VR Graphics 6/10 (Not great, not eye cancer) VR Audio 7/10 VR Gameplay 8/10 (Buggy but fun. With a little polish this could get bumped up a bit.) Locomotion 7/10 Combination of two locomotion modes. Custom track pad movement that works more like an 8 direction D-pad with "UP" being wherever you're looking when you start moving. Teleport mechanic. As mentioned above, a locomotion update is otw. Bottom line: I enjoyed myself. I do have an iron stomach though so buyer beware. Know that this is an EA title for a reason. Have reasonable expectations. EDIT: Note from Lupus: "After this next update, the resource planet will be getting some love - bloody turret pickup works great for monitor and Rift, but is a broken mess for Vive - as the Major says - I'm on it!" This is what really makes me want to support the game. He saw a pain point in my video and a fix is planned.
I just picked up Push For Emor on the Steam Autumn sale as something quite cheap for VR with spaceships in it. It needs polish, but so far I'm really impressed there's already so much of it. (I'm about 2hrs in) The first planet is okay for an Early Access game, but I was starting to think "is this it?" Then I got back into space and things really picked up. It's not until you reach the first space station that you realise what it might means to have ten planets to do stuff on (or I guess, we will have eventually). There's a whole mining thing going on, with waves of attacking beasties. Using mined resources to pay for defensive guns and flame turrets and stuff (which you can move around yourself). I found the mining a bit slow, but I don't think I'm not supposed to just sit there waiting for it. Lots of indie games seem to focus on one small thing and do it the best they can. Push For Emor seems to be trying to LOTS of things and so far things at least aren't broken. I've not encountered any game breaking bugs so far, which is always nice. The planets that are available so far seem to reflect the dev's design choices. There's something endearing about being chased by a knight in armor with a machine gun. I was surprised that the whole thing is being written by one guy. Though it did seem like people thought he'd abandoned the game earlier this year. It looks like there was a big patch a this month, so not abandoned. I suppose if the guy can keep plugging away at things, as he’s promised, it should get even better. The NPC movement AI sometimes has the indie problem of running on the spot or moving oddly. Hopefully that's something that can be fixed over time too. The humor is fun, with nods to stuff like Monty Python and World of Warcraft. It definitely doesn't pull its punches. Somewhere else it doesn't pull its punches is the VR experience. If you're brand new to VR, you might want to skip this one or play on a monitor instead. It definitely wouldn't rate "comfortable" on the Oculus store. Overall, I can see the potential. What there is right now is varied, if a little limited. For the price though and knowing it's Early Access, I'm fine with that.
To say this is made by one guy it's a big achievement. I enjoyed the game so far, it's nice to have a fuller VR game like this. Looking forward to future updates too, overall impressed so far. I love the flying car!
The point to move locomotion is a great experience and dual wielding the weapons is hellava fun in the Vive. I’m just about to leave the first planet and I’m already impressed with the different locations and the variety of gameplay. Open world and vehicles, loving it! Yes it is early access and does need some polish, but for the price this is a great addition to my VR games list and the developer seems to really care is listening to the community. Looking forward to the rest of the game!
If you have a sense of humour and love sci-fi films, Monty Python and sci-fi TV series then you MUST buy this game IMMEDIATELY! Great plot, geat gameplay, plenty of control options for VR including traditional twin stick locomotion and all done by ONE PERSON! Worth playing for Ms Lotty alone imo. Garry has done an amazing job with this, plenty of content and more on the way. Buy this game, it's awesome! I knew I was onto a winner when the protagonist mentioned the colour of his shirt at the start of the game and I saw that the Pod at the start of the game was the same shape as Mork's egg ship from Mork and Mindy. Brilliant.
