Purgatory Fell has a lot of really cool features. There are things that I haven't seen in a VR game yet, and I think it's a game that could be expanded upon in the future. There is a water effect that is very impressive, and the overall feel of the game is dark and ominous. It was short, but that is not uncommon for VR games at the moment. It's a great game to show people that are new to VR, how immersive this type of game can be.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers. Spoiler free review.
Please note Oculus users: you start out with almost everything behind you, so I recommend full roomscale setup as you cannot turn with joystick, you must physically turn This is a horror walking simulator in VR. There was only two puzzles. They were really easy. There was some light climbing involved as well. There were only two jumpscares that I remember during the whole thing as well. Although, there are some "scary" visuals and environments you must traverse. You move around by holding the triggers and facing the direction you want to go. You have a flashlight at some points of the game. The whole thing takes anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes depending on how much you explore outside where the game wants you to go. I recommend taking your time the first time through. There's only a few items you can actually interact with, so that was disappointing given the store description. I didn't notice the volumetric fog (looked like low res fog to me), but maybe on higher end systems. There wasn't much of a story also. I'm still confused about what the story was about, other than giving you scares along the way. I don't know if this will be scary for you but there's a reason for the title and that's where you'll visit. I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'll leave it at that. I do recommend the game, but only for those looking for a horror cinematic experience that actually involves some locomotion and exploration and very light puzzle elements. I think I got my money's worth, but this isn't something that's good enough that I would demo to friends or family. It was just okay. Just keep your expecations low and if you're not sure this is for you, wait for a sale. Rate 6/10. Nice attempt by the dev. Definitely some creativity. Just didn't come together as good as it could have been. I am giving a tepid recommendation only.
I am a streamer on Twitch (AnCapGamer) and BOTH of the devs were in my chat during my blind play though. This is a clip of how amazing they did with the game. https://clips.twitch.tv/OnerousSpineyWatercressHoneyBadger I HIGHLY recommend this game. The jump scares are well placed and the ambient sounds are well done - 11/10 =) EDIT - I streamed this game again and got caught off guard by the same part, again! https://clips.twitch.tv/ReliableIntelligentPancakeCurseLit
I played on Windows Mixed Reality (Samsung Odyssey +) and it worked fine. At first I thought I couldn't grab, but then I realized that there just wasn't anything to grab, until you get to the ladder in front of the Mansion(?). If you're looking for a storyline, this game is not for you. However, if you enjoy that descent into madness feeling and don't mind a couple of minor jumpscares (not horrible ones), then you will really enjoy this game. I got a slight Silent Hill vibe from this game at parts. I did hit a glitch where I walked outside of the office building and into air and then couldn't get back in. But it was fine, I just brought up the menu and started the level over (it has checkpoints for every new area). Simple. I thought this game/demo was well done and look forward to the full game.
This game wasn't good but it wasn't bad either. The graphics were amazing and the gameplay was ok, but the story line made no sense. I wouldn't even say there WAS a story line. I also wouldn't say it was really scary. Yes it kept you on your toes, but nothing ever happened, there was only one jumpscare. It's a bit of a let down to have so much suspence for nothing to happen. So, if you just want the experience, then go ahaed and get it. But if you are wanting to get scared, don't waste your $6, or if you get it for full price $8
Punkte 3,5/10
When i seen this game was released i really wanted to have it. I like this kind of games. But i use a Rift , Not a Vive. So i contacted the dev and he answered me that he knows at least one person who uses it on the Rift without a problem but he could not guarantee it. More then enough for me to try it myself. Well Shade ur a very friendly dev unlike some others i talked to and ur game is good and scary ... and perfectly playable with Oculus. If u like scary games then this one is for you . Nice game for a nice price.
Slick graphics combine with an ominous atmosphere in an everchanging array of creepy nightmarish scenes as you try to discover the mystery behind missing young girl Amy. Very intelligent use of VR to keep you wondering whatever is coming next??? It's difficult to write this review and not give too much away, but a few minutes in and you'll be hooked! It's a dark and immersive experience that has some well executed white knuckle moments. It's a shame about the load times between scenes despite my beefy setup and depending on your exploration time, for the most part it's quite short, so grab it on sale. Great title for horror fans and to scare the wits out of your friends...
Very fun and immersive game! Has you on your toes the entire time wondering whats next!
Indie good-ish horror game at 26 minutes length.
