I love this game so much. It's even better on my second play-through after being more accustomed to the mechanics. I was fortunate enough to win a steam key for this game in a giveaway on Twitter. And when Adam Kareem found out that I didn't yet have a PC capable of playing the game, he gifted me a key for Xbox One. So awesome. Now I am finally able to play the PC version of the game. First things first: It captures the frenetic fast-based energy of a Mega Man X game sooo well, especially after increasing the camera speed to 2x. I found myself locking into the game mechanics of running, jumping, shooting, and dashing around enemies and obstacles in the same way that I used to with the Mega Man X series of games. And this game wears its influence very clearly on its sleeve and makes no effort to hide what it's paying homage to. Despite this, it does a wonderful job of standing out and feeling like its own thing, with a colorful and expressive cast of characters, unique challengers, and an arcade shoot-em-up style boss fights. The graphics are gorgeous and colorful, with a "Solarpunk" flare. The controls are tight and responsive. The music is amazing, and captures vibe of the various cultures that are represented in the game, with an electro-metal feel. The stage design, platforming, boss fights, and enemy attack patterns are well thought-out to reward you for tactical positioning while offering a few punishments for taking a seemingly good position for granted. The lock-on mechanic is very well implemented, it keeps your aim focused where it should be without feeling like it's holding-your hand and making things easy. And this game is not easy whatsoever. It's a very challenging game. I'd even go so far as to say it is "Nintendo hard", with long stages with lots of platforming and combat challenges thrown your way. I do have some criticisms, however. While the sound design is very effective, and the majority of sounds are pleasing and satisfying, there are a few sounds that are just too loud and poorly balanced, such as the "BZRRRRRT" sound that the special blade attacks uses. It sounds like a buffer overflow of sound, and it's just loud and jarring compared to everything else. Also, at times you can tell that the voice acting was recorded under uncontrolled circumstances with microphones of varying degrees of quality and specifications. I feel like some mixing and mastering could be done to bring them into a more unified and hi-fi sound. I also wish that there was an in-game database of enemy names to refer to as we encounter them. A gallery or something. I find myself wanting to refer to the robots I encounter by some name, but I don't know what their names are. I also found some of the hidden bonus stages to be unbalanced compared to others, with very little if any HP healing items or checkpoints. Especially the first one I encountered on the left-most stage on the stage select screen. It was a pain to be at the mercy of low RNG for heals drops, especially with how difficult the final platforming challenge was. Overall, this is an amazing and wonderful challenging colorful game. It's got a few rough spots, mostly in audio fidelity, but other than that. It's top-notch if you like challenging fast-paced Mega Man style action in 3D.
Picked it up on a whim, glad I played it. It's overall solid with some issues. -Control is great. Took a level or two to adjust to the dash jump timing, but once you do. You can blow through levels at high speed and it's a blast. -Music's great -There's a decent amount of variety to the platforming challenges, (though not the platforms themselves. I'll get to that later.) -It wears its influence on it's sleeve, and I kinda love it. The X-Series is my favorite series. Being a fan of both 3D platformers and the X series, I felt right at home. HOWEVER... -Holy ♥♥♥ these levels go on forever. And the same'yness of the platforms along with the environments make it feel even longer. I can blow through these levels in minutes, personally. It's pretty easy, but I think this will be a nightmare if you're not good at 3D platformers. I understand the want to give players more bang for their buck, but these kind of games I think work better in short bursts. -Story is...fine. Voice actors are fine. The art is good. It's just kind of uninteresting overall, story-wise. -Damn that ending was abrupt. I don't know much about the history of this game. It was a Kickstarter game, I guess, so I can't be too mad at that. -Please, PLEASE just make the Buster charge up while I'm holding the button. Sometimes it just doesn't if you press it too soon after firing a shot. A minor annoyance, but a constant once. You delivered something that was overall solid as hell, and I was glad to play. Overall, still would recommend.
Good old retro fun. The story's not really anything special, and has some pretty noticeable loose ends, but it serves well enough. Gameplay mostly feels pretty good, but the controls could be tighter, and I don't think I'd really call it "fast and fluid" like the official description does. What frankly surprises me is the lack of score attack or time attack modes, given that this is exactly the kind of game you would expect to have them. Even without those, though, playing through the story is a pleasant way to kill an afternoon, and I expect I'll probably fire it up again every once in a while just to play through a level or two for fun.
Bit toothless but overall fun enough. Marked as a yes but it's more complicated than that. The game has potential, I can see a sequel iterating on whats good here. Movement is missing one ingredient, and that's wall jumps. In a way, in spite of all the X references, this is more classic Megaman than X. Level design is fun enough, but it's very easy, it's why I called it ''toothless'', it feels like it never wants to be too mean to the players, and, sure, it's a tight balance between making something hard but fun, a lot of classic Megaman has sections where its just mean, it's all tooth, and it sucks, but at least you remember it. Combat is ok once you get the extra skills, the loop of using your meter then using your sword moves to refill it can be fun, but again, game never challenges you enough, and the combat doesn't fully synergizes with the platforming, a move that lets you reset your air jumps and dash when hitting enemies with the sword, for instance, would be awesome. Again, maybe a sequel. The art direction is ok, some of the designs are wonky, mostly the mc tbh, her eyes are cold and robotic, which, maybe the point. It is the type of art direction that'll make an irrelevant part of the internet mad, but they're irrelevant. Voice acting could be better, it's not so bad it's good like X4 or MM8, it's just forgettable, which is worse than it being bad. The worse offender to me tho', and I mean no ill towards the composer, but the music man, it's so painfully basic and boring, not a single good track, i don't remember what stage, but there's one stage where a RIFF in the song is good before it going back to bleh, and i'm sorry to rag on it, but it's the truth. For me, the game offers more potential, a sequel would be great, I thought it was fine, like, a 4 or 5 out of 10, but a positive one, level design was fun enough, its just that when it starts to get good and challenging, it ends. I want these bones, with the movement of Pseudoregalia know what i mean, just, bouncing around dashing and swooshing fast cause i'm a cool dashy android, thats what i'd hope the sequel would be.
Story is kind of lacklustre and final bossfight bugs out. Platforming can start feeling fun but will randomly lose its flow. Very short, but everything feels basically the same so its not quality over quantity. Character design was pretty cool, but the characters and bosses of each area didn't have any impact.
This game PROVES that the Mega Man formula can be brought into the 3D plane. It has it's bugs here and there (sometimes the enemies fall through the floor when you hit them, I found one instance of clashing textures on the fiesta level, etc), but they're pretty far flung between. I did think the stun shot was kind of useless, and the energy shield could use an increase in firing speed. The costumes are a nice touch, but I feel they could be taken a step further; like each one gives a unique affect or ability. Just something to keep in mind for the sequel.
Short megaman style game, liked it and all achievements pretty easy enough to accomplish.
