About

Project Absentia is a retro FPS inspired by 2000s-2010s flash animations and sprite comics, with vertical, aerial, elemental combat as the main focus.
You play as Abby, an angel who has been captured by the Orkan Corporation, along with her girlfriend Aurora, and her best friend Orion. You break free of your captors, but your friends are still captive. Armed with only a Tommy Gun, your gliding abilities and your wits, you must jump and glide and move around to get the high ground against your enemies. They don't know who they're messing with, and no one messes with Abby.
Huge levels focused on emulating physical locations - lived-in mines, castles, apartments, entertainment districts, derelict ships and more.
A huge armory - tons of weapons lying around. Use the Hailer to freeze your enemies. Missile Launchers blow your enemies apart. Drain health with the man-eating plant known as Blitzcraig. Use the trusty double-barreled shotgun to shred your foes. Oh, and make 'em taste the rainbow with the Rainbowitzer. Just to name a few!
Interactive elements - vending machines, breakable glass, mini-golf, water coolers, mirrors, just to name a few! Feel free to play with the environment.
Fully voice acted cast - with a broad cast of characters
Accessibility options - subtitles, speech control, adjustable FOV, and so much more.

ENG I. Love. This. Game. The pace is super-fast, but not blindingly so, the weapon system is pretty uniqe and encourages an addictive aggressive playstyle, Abby's voice actress is amazing, especially in more emotional moments, I loved the references, especially a few Civie-11 one's. Most of the weapons are references to the Buld engine trio (Duke 3D, Blood, Classic Shadow Warrior), and they blend in seemlesely, using them is pure bliss. Although I was only able to access a singe episode for now, not sure if I missed something or not, as there are credits for it, but the first episode is amazing, and I eagerly await what's coming next.
I think the flippantly short version is "It's like Hedon made by a Newgrounds kid". Gameplay is good enough, it's hyper-mobile GZDoom with an arsenal that rapidly cycles through the various weapon pickups. But there are so many retro shooters I'd rank above this, from Ion Fury to Hedon to Selaco to Zortch. It is actually kind of nice to not be worrying about any upgrade systems or progression mechanics or whatever in a game for once. Just play the level, beat the level, done.
A fantastic retro shooter with classic FLASH-style visuals. It incorporates plenty of brilliant design elements from ROTT. The developer canceled the originally planned three chapters due to health issues and other circumstances, and the game now concludes with just two main chapters. Still, it’s great to see the full official release finally come out
I would say this is a rather unique gzdoom engine game in both art and play style. and sure while there is some odd stuff here and there and the interact mirror boss in the first level can be a tough one to get past sometimes, the game play is really fun when you get into it. the levels get bigger and better as you go (3rd one being what sold me on the game), and jumping really high and gliding through the air while blowing up and blasting enemies to pieces leads to quite a good time. the movement is especially what I like in the game. Abby's fast, she jumps really high, glides through the air and dashes like crazy. you then mix that with a couple dozen enemies at once and you're gliding and dashing all over the place while laying a barrage of rockets and bullets everywhere in sight. There is also of course lots of good humor and parody references through out the game that are satisfying to see as you progress through the levels, as well as a lot of secrets that are decently done in that they're not super hard to find but you do need to keep an eye out and look for them.
I have received a review key for this for pre-release and have finished it so here's my thoughts. Project Abenstia is a retro style fps game that is closer to a boomer shooter than most. It uses a unique weapon system that's more similar to Rise of the Triad than other entries. The maps are all well made and flow well with good signposting. The humor is very silly and very gay (affectionate). The art style is very reminiscent of 2000s flash animations and the voice acting is also very indie, which makes sense as it's a small indie project. Difficulty wise it's on the easier side of fps games (played through on normal, died maybe 5 times) which is good, makes it a nice entry level fps. I have few complaints, mainly that weapon balance feels all over the place and the bosses are the standard fare FPS game bosses but overall I do recommend this game.
A fine game with a fine DooM/Blood-esque combat. The interactables are nice + I would love to see more bosses (like clown dolphin / doctor plant boss) and levels (verge of insanity / ai core level) in future Waffle Iron games!
very fun boom shoot. if you like rise of the triad this is a must play.
