Prismata is a strategy game that mixes ideas from card games, real time strategy and tabletop games, but it does not really play like any of them. I build up an economy, create units and then use them to attack my opponent, all through turn based battles. What I like most is that there is no luck deciding whether my plan works. If I make a bad decision, it is on me. The combat is probably the strongest part for me. Every match gives me a different selection of extra units to work with, so I have to figure out a strategy instead of simply following the same build every time. Some units are focused on gathering resources while others are designed for attacking or defending, and working out how they fit together can get surprisingly complicated. I also like how quickly the matches can develop. I can spend a few turns building my economy and then suddenly have to react to an attack or find a way to break through a defense. There are no random card draws or pre built decks deciding what I get, which makes the battles feel much more like a test of planning and adapting. There is a lot of single player content too. The free version includes the first episode of the campaign, while there are also more than 50 combat training puzzles and scenarios. The AI has different personalities and difficulties, so I can practice against different styles before trying ranked or casual multiplayer. There are also custom games and an expert challenge mode if I want something harder. The biggest problem is the learning curve. The basic rules are not particularly difficult to understand, but there are so many different units and interactions that I can spend a lot of time trying to understand why a particular strategy works or fails. It is the kind of game where I need to actually think about my mistakes instead of just blaming bad luck. The free to play model is actually one of the better things about it. There are no card packs and no paid competitive advantages, and all the units are available without buying them. The paid content is mainly cosmetics and extra single player content, so I never feel like I need to spend money just to compete properly. The only thing that really holds it back for me is how demanding it can be mentally. I cannot really switch my brain off while playing because even a small mistake can completely change the position. That is great when I am in the mood for serious strategy, but it can also make the game feel exhausting when I just want something casual. Overall, Prismata is a really clever strategy game that manages to feel different from almost everything else in the genre. I love the lack of random advantages, the constantly changing unit combinations and the amount of planning involved in every match. The learning curve is steep and it can be mentally tiring, but once I start understanding how the systems work, there is a huge amount of depth here. Rating: 7.4/10

Good game me like it
If you are looking for a casual card game to play while watching YouTube, Prismata is definitely not for you. But if you miss the golden age of competitive games where your victories actually depended on your skills, this hidden gem is a breath of fresh air. Gameplay & Mechanics: The game combines elements of RTS economy building, deckbuilders, and turn-based board games. You start with basic resource gatherers and slowly expand your tech tree to produce attacking and defensive units. No RNG or P2W: The best part? There is literally no luck involved. No random card draws, no top-decking, and absolutely no pay-to-win mechanics. All gameplay-relevant units are available right from the start. If you win, you earned it. If you lose, it is entirely your fault. Single Player & AI: The puzzle modes and combat scenarios are fantastic for learning the basics, and the AI is surprisingly smart and challenging. The Drawbacks: The learning curve is brutal. It can be mentally exhausting after just a couple of matches because every single click matters. Also, be aware that the campaign DLC was left unfinished by the developers, so I recommend sticking to the free version and multiplayer.
