Powerslide is a post-apocalyptic off-road racing game. With 98% of the population dead there's a lot of cars around just waiting to get driven into the ground. The ferals started the Powersliding competition, the corporates banned it. It's dangerous, it's illegal, it kicks butt.

Those 2 kids in the intro haunts me to this day.
Played this game as a kid, tried to play it a few years ago and it wouldn't run properly. The Steam version actually runs. 10/10 would actually be able to play the game again.
For 5 bucks, one of the first open* full 3D racing game with : - Nice physics engine where you do crazy drifts - Large tracks - Very good musics with its own style - Nice cars/pilots/backgrounds - No stupid rubberbanding AI (I HATE rubberbanding AI) but you can't really move the AI cars - Now in the full HD glory Be sure to : - select your max resolution x32 - select everything expect scanline and letterbox and you are good to go to obtain your first wooden spoon! It's quite amazing how this game is the same than before. You can even select "Glide 2" for graphics xD (Don't do that thought, it's a relic of the past) Pilots are just for the skin of the car, but I really like(d) the fluff their backgrounds add to the game. * About the openess of this game and its physics engine, this game came out after Destruction Derby 2. Compared to DD2, Powerslide doesn't simulate crash (because you can't really move the AI) but it has a better physics engine for the wheels and frictions (especially when the car goes back on the road after a air jump) and the tracks are way larger.
this was and still is the best racing game ever. Nothing plays like this game in terms of handling, control, map design... its all good bruv
I've been playing this game on and off since it came out in 1998 and I remember it really left an impression on me. What really sets Powerslide apart is the unique physics, which are not realistic at all but at the same time make the game so enjoyable. It's nearly impossible to make a turn without doing a powerslide, which at first feels like driving on ice, but somehow it controls just fine once you get used to it. Hitting the other cars is like hitting a wall and will barely make them move, but you can use that at your advantage to make tighter turns. The cars also don't bounce off the ground like they do in most arcade racers, if you do a jump and land upside down, the car will just stay in that position and slide for a few seconds then turn over. That's probably the only thing I don't like about the physics, it would be more fun if the car could just bounce off the ground à la Rush 2 to make more impressive stunts. There is also several very fun cheats you can use to explore the levels and you can go anywhere you want as there are no invisible walls, which adds considerable replay value to the game. The graphics, which were considered very good in 1998, unfortunately didn't age well, but that doesn't take away the sheer fun of the game.
I had this on CD (google it, kids) when I was young. Like a fusion of Mad max and Mario kart, super gritty, no grippy driving. Its the soundtrack thatll have me coming back for many more years.
This game is still awesome to this day. Even though I've already beaten it once, it's still fun to play afterwards. If the sequel could be published, I would get it right away, but it's too bad that the prototype is nowhere to be found. But, if you like a game with slippery physics, and a heck of a challenge, make it this one. (The game might not be perfect, which may result in some random software crashes, so you might want to keep that in mind.)
By the time i wrote this review i played 9 hours. Powerslide is a racing game where you face a world with post-apocalyptic setting. this is where powerslide throws us in, by having crazy races on different tracks with cars reminding us of mad max. Plot: Year 2020. The human population shrunk drastically and the climate is changed due to the ozone layer gone completely so that getting food is very difficult. prices for fruit has gone up extremely and people start fighting for it,. some rich corporates start hiding underground while the rest (called "ferals") started doing their own thing on the surface of the earth, most of them suffering. at some point 2 brothers from feral background started the powerslide competition, where people have races on various tracks. the reward when winning: fruits. yes, literally fruits. be it apple or banana. i think the plot is good enough and doesnt need to be very deep since its a racing game, not an RPG. the characters: each pilot has its own car (albeit there are like 6-7 chassis variants, the characters just get their own skin/livery) and each of them have their own bio section where there is a brief background and giving us information, what this character is doing or what his goals are. be it freaky lunatics with severe tendecies towards psychopath, to gangsters who have chosen a horse as organ donor or some corporates who just want a fun past time after selling burgers, so there is something for everyone. my favorite character is most likely feryl and stig mata, especially stig mata sounds fun. the faster you are, the closer you are to god :D. i like the variety. the maps: there are several tracks and they capture the games settings well and make it believable alongside the plot. like with the characters, there are enough tracks that satisfy everyones needs. my only complaint is there is no top-speed track to take advantage of the beefier cars. the tracks are detailed enough, i like them overall. the AI: the AI in this game is unforgiving and drives very well and taeks corners in the optimal way. in the expert or insane difficulty setting, the game has zero room for driving mistakes. so if you like challenges, there you go. the AI is good. the cars: the cars themselves were praised for its physics and behavior and i can see why. with the 6-7 different car categories the game shows which cars accelerate better or which are well in handling via the stats/bars. hence the games name powerslide, you will drift into one corner after another, so expect the cars to slide around like its on ice 24/7. in my opinion the cars slide too much but i get why the devs decided to do it this way. technical facts: my gamepad didnt get recognized and the menu is very, very laggy to the point where its just frustrating to navigate around. its a shame that the publisher of this game left the game untouched in the way it was since 1998 and didnt give it any facelift in terms of compatibility with newer operating systems. yes the game works but.. a bit more love would have been appropriate. i think for this pricetag these problems shouldnt have existed. i did not encountner any game bugs except when alt tabbing the game menus fonts may have pink outlines. sound/music: the soundtrack nails the atmosphere of the game and the car sounds are great. graphics: i wont judge much here since the game is very, very old but for a 1998 game it was on AAA level. multiplayer: while there is a multiplayer function its basically dead because the games multiplayer expects TCP/IP like 20 years ago. it works in theory but its a pain to set up and i dont understand why the game didnt get a small facelift to utilize multiplayer the way other steam games do. verdict: recommended. overall, powerslide is as wild as i remember it back in 1998. its a very fun racing game with impressive physics and handling and a strong AI. the lore is believable (at least for a racing game) and is well written, with its atmosphere such sounds, cars and music. some tracks have sponsors like feralstone which is a nice touch. what i love is how each character has its own short biography which gives the game its unique flavor. the price is a bit too high considering the publisher didnt do anything to fix the issues i mentioned which are at a very basic level. score: 7/10. i would gladly give it 8/10 if the game gets the fixes i mentioned.
I love this game. I had it way back when it came out. Dirt track racing in the 21st century post apocolptic world.
