Reviews
Man I don't want to give this a bad review, I don't. I didn't like basically anything about it though. The art is incredible. That...that is the end of my praise. The UI is absolutely awful. I mean, atrocious. The words don't line up right in the windows, crafting recipes are just dumped out over in a box. There's SOME tutorials but not all that are needed. Fishing...exists? I don't know how it works. Game didn't tell me. I couldn't catch anything at all. You can't close menus with escape - why not? Hit E for inventory, hit escape out of habit, but it just opens a system menu and then closes the system menu. The music...exists? I guess? Combat is wretched. You can "miss", but nothing tells you your hit chance. I missed more than I hit. I just stopped trying. Chopping trees and mining rocks requires a minigame for...some...reason...I don't know why anybody thought this was a good idea. Crafting is so bad though. Just awful. I mean it's actually terrible. The recipes are poorly shown, require weird amounts of stuff, the UI for it is awful just like everything else. I don't know. Ignore this because I only played for ten minutes, I'm fine with it. However, in those ten minutes I was so repulsed by the game I refunded it. That has to count for something. This probably should have been an early access launch. It needs a LOT of work still.
Things this gets right: Pixel graphics looks great The tile system is quite refreshing to see Seems like it contains a decent amount of content at first glance. Things I'd say needs improvement: Mining and Cutting wood with tools, hitting it with your bare hands is straight forward as you'd expect from any game in the survival-crafting genre, but as soon as you upgrade to an axe or pickaxe, a minigame starts.. You can see it in the demo videos above, it's not great. (It actually feels slower by using tools) Attacking enemies is not straight forward, the actual hit animation is not the actual attack mask/collision, enemies needs to get closer than what's visible shown AND you might not even hit considering there's a hit/miss system in the game (Which unfortunately doesn't feel like it fits) Some UI elements feels cluttered and unorganized, clicking "Esc" doesn't close some of the menus. And Co-Op should be added for people who wanna play that (But I'm not really impacted by that.. It's difficult to add, but I think the dev can do it considering all the other impressive things they added here.) For me those negatives do outweigh the positives at the moment, the first impression are vital for a game like this, even if there's a ton of good stuff crammed in there.. I'm not gonna refund it, I feel like this is a potential hidden gem, but darn does it just need a few fixes and QoL elements in there and it's pretty much golden. I WILL follow when updates are coming in (Assuming post-release updates are gonna be a thing) (It's gonna be a positive review atm, I don't want to push this game down with all the AI slop/Asset flips, I want this to be a success, I love indie games and clearly passion has been displayed)
WTF is this ♥♥♥♥?! No console compatibility and the very first time I try to play the mother ♥♥♥♥♥♥ drops me in the middle of river so I can do anything while it constantly dies and respawns over and over and over and over and over and OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OVER AND ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OVER AND ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OVER AND ♥♥♥♥♥♥ OVER AGAIN!!! I hope someone was fired for this turd!!!! UPDATE: The building "mechanics" in this "game" are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ atrocius and should be considered a hate crime. Sweet Jesus Christ. I had to rage quit 5 times. Game plays like it was made by terrible high school level AI.
I find that the controls are a little different until you get used to them. The game is simple but fun! However the tree-chopping mini-game is immersion-breaking and ultimately serves as a roadblock for one of the most important mechanics in the game. I am interested in playing this game more later and following it to see if it gets any updates.
I personally quite liked the game, it's a good concept, but the execution wasn't all that great in my opinion, and there's a lot of room for improvement - firstly the tutorial is basically non-existent, it's buggy, unhelpful and just mentions controls -> corresponding action, which is not enough to go off on. You have to figure out a lot of stuff on your own. There is a minigame for chopping trees and mining rocks which i fail to see the reason why it is necessary, and the fishing minigame is next to impossible to understand and there isn't even a tutorial for it. For some reason you can hit or miss enemies which i also fail to see why it is necessary for a 2d pixel game (maybe because i am new to rpgs but i dont understand). There are also a lot of bugs and glitches, sometimes sound effects turn off on their own for some time for no reason, sometimes you get stuck somewhere, but thankfully there is a respawn option. The game guide that is linked in the menu is also outdated and the crafting recipes, boss drops etc. don't seem to match what is in-game. The worst part, the most inexcusable part i can't look past that the other commentors have also mentioned is the UI - it's the worst i've ever seen in a game - it NEEDS to be revamped, especially for the crafting system, cuz what do you mean i have to scroll within a tiny box to select the recipe i want to craft which is a nightmare, and why can't i see the recipe and stats for a weapon even if i don't have enough of the resources? You also can't close menus by hitting esc, for eg, you open inventory with E and you have to hit E again to close it and it doesn't close on hitting esc, and it's even worse for the game pause window when you hit esc it doesn't close when you hit esc again, you have to manually scroll down and click on the close button, which seems like really bad design to me. The art is amazing, the music is really good too, and exploring the various biomes and dungeons and fighting bosses is really interesting and fun, but this game has a lot of room for improvement. For a solo indie dev i would still say this is a great effort, and i would still recommend people to buy this game but hold off on it until improvements are made. Genuinely rooting for it to do well <3
Game really needs alot of work. Its seems there is no planned controller support either.
they have mini games for harvesting trees and rocks. terrible idea. I hated it 1/10
