The game is not without faults; I've found the ship battles just tedious and I'd prefer a way to switch between turn based and real time modes in the game (as it works with the recent update in Pillars of Eternity 1). That said, the setting, the companions, the character building system and combat (chanter being my favourite take on the bard class) made for a memorable and fun experience. And hey, in how many cRPG can you join the pirates faction? Even my goody two-shoes character sailed the high seas in the end.
8.8/10 rlly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ good, main story is pretty small and weird, but the interactions with eothas are really cool. the world itself is awesome and well worth the time to explore. game really shines with exploring and side content. party members are relatively simple but I found them enjoyable. excited to play the expansions eventually. they cancelled avowed 2 today and even though I never played the first, i hope this doesnt mean the end of pillars as well. POE3 would be dope.
This game is great , fun to explore and combat is satisfying. My biggest gripe with this game is the performance... ITS ♥♥♥♥. im in the low 50-40s sometimes in fights and yeah the devs should really look into optimizing this game. And if you check the forums im not the only one with this problem.
One of my favorite RPGs. PoE 1 was a great game that I've replayed many times, and I think PoE 2 improved everything. The naval battles are fun, but text based so they may be hit or miss for some players. The art is amazing and captivating. The world is well crafted and the islands feel like a real place, with realistic domestic and international politics. There are some tough choices in the game and oftentimes there is no "right" choice. Most importantly for me, the combat is easy to follow and never felt punishing for mistakes on lower difficulties (I've never played higher difficulties).
This game is absolute amazing. I really like the story and the mechanics of the game. However, do not use the RTwP or Turn-Based mode in the game. Download the turn-based mod that copies the more modern turn-based mode that was later implemented in the first Pillars of Eternity game. That way, you can play turn-based in a way that i true to the origianl game.

Its a bit old when you compare it to Baldur's Gate 3 and Pathfinder, but its what paved the way for it. For someone who loves strategy based RPGs, this is one of the most fun games. Not the best in terms of graphics and mechanics, but the best in terms of story and innovation. A must play game if you have already played the newer RPGs and want to sink you teeth into something else
Great game. Pillars of eternity was an epic dungeon crawler and in Deadfire they added pirates and ships to that, so yeah, it doesn't get any better. I have played it a few times and I'm doing another round now because its always fun to go back. And because its hard to find a game you want to play let alone go back to now.
