It offers 952 puzzles: half black-and-white, half colored and available in varying sizes, from 5x5 to 25x25. These models look similar to those used in Rune Factory 5, albeit with darker outlines and fewer background objects, making the environment look empty. The image that was shown after you finish a Nonogram also looks as if it's being zoomed in too much due to its blurriness. Other than that, the visuals look great. The UI looks smooth and easy to understand.
The Game
Gameplay The game starts by giving you an option to choose a gender and the game's difficulty. The gender will only affect the model that was shown in the background, although the difficulty can change how you play the game. Adventure mode will force you to play from the easiest puzzles, with harder ones unlocking as you play. The puzzle mode, however, allows you to play from any Nonogram you want. You can change your save from adventure to puzzle mode anytime, although doing the other way around won't work. The puzzle size varies. There are several smaller ones in the size of 5x5, although the majority of them are in the sizes of 15x15, 20x20, and 25x25. I like how the puzzles are placed; the game always tries to put an easier puzzle in between the harder ones. It helps to refresh your brain from all the thinking, preventing you from getting overwhelmed with the game's difficulty. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3517768633 Although the smaller Nonograms are easy to solve, the same can't be said for the larger ones. I often find myself having to guess, especially on the black-and-white ones; the colored ones are simpler since the clues are more abundant in that mode. That being said, all solutions are unique—it's just that you need to do some advanced techniques to fill the larger sizes correctly. Sometimes, markers are needed to color the next spot, but I found it hard to trigger the markings with the middle mouse click, so I either don't use it or switch to a gamepad whenever I'm forced to do that. I found the colored puzzles to be easier than the black-and-white puzzles. There seems to be more room for deduction, and you have more starting points from the colors. However, some puzzles have multiple colors that look similar, making it easy to mix them up, especially if you are color blind. There is an option that will add some shapes on top of the filled tiles, but I'm not sure whether that helps since the shapes will be in a lighter color and drawn on top of the filled color tiles. Customization You can customize the game however you want. You can use a clue roulette that will randomly fill some tiles at the beginning of the puzzle, make the game check for your mistake, show hints, auto cross x for complete and/or 0 rows, and hide the puzzle timer. The hints can be useless, though; despite marking possible rows and columns that can be filled, I still struggle to find which cells I need to fill whenever I need to use it. To be honest, the option to make the game check for your mistake is more helpful at this point. Playing puzzles can also be done in two modes: normal and challenge. The latter has a preset option, with it having a mistake check and a game over when you don't finish the Nonogram within 1 hour. Making a mistake will increase the timer, so you will get a game over quickly if you keep making mistakes. If you get a game over, you must restart the puzzle from scratch. This can be annoying, especially since some puzzles must be finished in this mode. However, this can make the game easier since it will ensure that you are filling the right tiles. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3445495879 The game also has boss battles, which are actually several Nonogram puzzles that make up a larger image. In this case, the rule to finish the puzzle within 1 hour only applies to each individual puzzle, and not the combination of them all. The boss battles can be noisy, though; making a mistake will initiate the boss's attack, filling the screen with the special effect. After solving some Nonograms, you'll unlock some items that you can use to customize your farm. In the adventure mode, doing this will unlock more puzzles. However, I think this feature is too bland; there are no incentives to do the customization apart from achievements and puzzle unlocks, and for the latter ones, the game never made it clear enough on how to do it and whether it's possible or not. If you play in the puzzle mode, all puzzles will be unlocked right away, so you won't have to waste your time dealing with all of these. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3504997538 Length and Difficulty I finished the black-and-white Nonograms in 60.8h, the colored Nonograms in 43.3h, and the bonus puzzles, which consist of both black-and-white and colored Nonograms, in 3.4h. To be honest, it took me longer to finish the black-and-white Nonograms since I played on my older device, and the game kept crashing on it. It requires a high-spec device to run properly, which gives no issue when I played it with my current device. Despite having a tutorial for beginners, this game is not for those who are completely new to Nonograms. A lot of the puzzles require you to use advanced techniques, especially on the black-and-white ones. You'll end up relying on guessing and autocorrect if you don't know about them, which might impact the experience. It's best suited for those who are already used to playing Nonograms and know some of the tricks, and are comfortable enough to play in the 25x25 size.
Conclusion
Piczle Cross: Rune Factory is a Nonogram game with black-and-white and color variations. Despite both of them having different difficulties, with the colored ones being easier than the black-and-white ones, the puzzles are solid. It has a lot of customizations, and you can play it however you want. However, the game might be too hard for complete beginners; you need to use Nonogram's advanced techniques to solve some of the puzzles, which the game never explains. It's best for those who are already familiar with Nonogram and want to play the harder ones. "This is just going to be like Piczle Cross: Story of Seasons, but Rune Factory themed," I had thought to myself. "Plus it's only content from Rune Factory 3 to 5. How much could there possibly be in this game?" Turns out, there could possibly be a lot! While the previous Piczle Cross had 270 regular puzzles and 5 huge collage puzzles, this one has 300 regular puzzles and 20 medium-to-huge collage puzzles...or rather, 600 and 40, because of the Color Picross mode that adds a new spin to every challenge (sometimes to my frustration, due to muscle memory and sometimes forgetting to switch to the right colour when marking a space). A returning feature is a farm that's really just an idle background image, but while Piczle Seasons just had four automatically cycling seasonal versions that grew depending on puzzles cleared, this one is fully customizable, with puzzles unlocking different farmlands on the backs of giant beasts, various crops and monster helpers, weaponry for your chosen Rune Factory 5 protagonist to wear, and even your choice between the Rune Factory 5 love interests (alas, no 3D models of the 3 and 4 cast, though they do get more special images in the in-game Compendium). Additionally, there's a lot more variation in background imagery during puzzles, such as a kitchen for ingredient puzzles, a sakura blossom tree for people, a pond for fishing, and multiple battlegrounds for fighting against monsters (in which doing well has your protagonist using their equipped weapon against a 3D model of the monster, and missing has the monster attack instead). Honestly, my only negative point when it comes to visuals is that, to my knowledge, there's no way to swap between Ares and Alice after making your initial protagonist choice. Another complaint I had with Piczle Seasons, which was addressed in Piczle Rune, is the progression curve. Both games have plenty of accessibility features, but in Seasons, puzzles weren't really organized by difficulty, aside from the easier 5x5 and 10x10 grids towards the front of a list and most of the harder 20x20 grids towards the back. In comparison, Piczle Rune has two modes: freeplay, and Adventure. Freeplay gives you access to all puzzles immediately, and is better at organizing by difficulty than the Seasons puzzles, while Adventure instead mostly organizes by game and locks off later puzzles until you beat the earlier ones (at least it feels that way; I didn't see my first RF5 love interest until about halfway through), as well as set up the collage puzzles as true challenges to overcome that forces them to play with most hints off and under a (very forgiving hour-per-segment-long) time limit. The player can swap from Adventure to freeplay, but they cannot swap from freeplay to Adventure. Thankfully, though, no achievements or unlockables require a full Adventure run to obtain. As I stated for Piczle Seasons, if you're just looking for a Picross game without the bells and whistles, there are other games on Steam that are more affordable, can be played with cheaper graphics cards, and add additional substance like a compelling storyline. But these are some REALLY GOOD bells and whistles, especially if you're a fan of Rune Factory's visuals, though you might be sad if you also wanted Rune Factory gameplay along with it. Fact is, I recommend this!

More nonograms is always a great thing and this one scratches the itch. I know nothing about Rune Factory and still enjoy the game. Controls could take some notes from Picross. Not being able to "paint" the memo markings nor wrap while "painting" is quite annoying but I still recommend. I fear the timed challenge puzzles may get very problematic for me without the wrapping and memo issue I mentioned before but I'll get one I can get done.
i like it :) it is a bit jank and i think couldve had more varied stuff to customise and maybe have more than one town map for picrosses X_X i give 8.5/10 bye bye
[/olist]
