As someone who really likes tight and unforgiving platformers this was pretty nice (I have 21.000 deaths on Celeste, send strawberries🍓). The ball is pretty responsive and it feels really good to complete each puzzle, every level is simple but with very little room for error, taking either 30 seconds or a whole hour to complete. If you're into cozy yet cruel neon platforming every once in a while it's worth checking out :>
PhotonVERSE is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one has a twist, instead of deciding when you jump, you're always jumping, as you guide a bouncing ball through otherwise normal, traditional puzzle platformer obstacles. This gimmick simply makes the old, dead genre more frustrating, and isn't an enjoyable concept in terms of gameplay. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The controls and game handling are notably very clunky and unsmooth here. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this never made it to the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? PhotonVERSE is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Wow. That game is very beautiful, challenging and fair. Very beautiful graphics neon style. I played the game in 4k with my gtx 1070 and the game runs very smoothly at constant 60 fps. Its well optimized. AMAZING music, amazing retro - techno - synth. Solid gameplay. As far as i play the game requires precision and perception. The inputs are very responsive. A game well done 9.5/10
The game is a very beautiful and well made game. I like the Gameplay. I love the retro theme and the music is very pleasing and the vibe that the game gives off. It is as hard as it needs to be and challenges you to pass the level every time in every stage. I recommend this game not only to those who like platform games but to those who want to test themselves in games that require precision and motion. 10/10 for me 🏆🏆🏆
One of the most fun games I've played. This game really caught my eye when i saw it. Its simple mechanics make it seem simple but trust me IT'S HARD
The game has a unice art style and a very beautiful soundtrack, it is pretty challenging and easy at the same time for this type of game i did not expect that. Would recommend if you have spare keyboards at home.
Pretty good game, broke my keyboard, had fun tho
It's a very fun game till you press play, some of the maps are pretty hard but i enjoy playing this game, the only problem now is that i need a new keyboard to play it. I definitely recommended.
Pretty good and solid gameplay, with great sound effects and visuals.Im not a 2D gamer but I enjoyed pretty much the gameplay..I managed to arrive at the Celeste level It's a fun game and it makes the time run faster..Highly recommend it!
