TL;DR As it stands, I cannot recommend playing this game, it's no longer about the journey, only endgame and cosmetics. New Genesis isn't fun anymore. PSO2 used to be extremely fun but now lacks players due to Sega barely keeping it on life support in favor of New Genesis. Full review: Phantasy Star Online 2 was a game about the journey, players enjoying content of the entire game, even for low levels or new characters, you could participate in quite a large amount of the game's content. PSO2 Oracle had a lot of fun times between players, community held events and gatherings, you could form good bonds with each other. Then we ended up getting...New Genesis. Or as some might say, World of Warcraft 2. It's gone downhill since the start of New Genesis. At first it started being fun, then quickly became soiled by focusing mostly (some would say "entirely" depending on who you ask) on fashion items, making your character look good. A staggering amount of the cosmetics reliant on using Arks Cash (AC, a premium currency purchased with real money) and gambling on a chance at getting the cosmetics you want. Whether it be cosplaying a character you based your creation on or otherwise just making your character look appealing to yours or other's tastes. As many would say. "Phasion is the TRUE endgame." And it's not entirely wrong, as most players I encounter that aren't in Combat Zones or Urgent Quests are just sitting in Central City idling and chatting, some players even leaving the game running in the background while they play OTHER games, simply showing off cosmetics they bought with AC. Despite this, I won't argue, some people do VERY well with the cosmetics and make an impressive recreation of some characters their creation is based on. New Genesis also is simply trying to shove everyone to the new content when they release it, their Battle Power system only allowing the strongest of players to access the newer content as it releases, seeming to care little if at all about newer players/characters/lower level classes, especially evident because you have the option of using AC to skip a large chunk of the story to get to endgame, dumping levels on you as well so you're on par with that part of the story. Even then, quests won't let you in unless you match a specific Battle Power number or higher, so even if your level is similar to the quest's enemies, that magic number won't let you into the quest if it's too low. Oracle didn't have this, Oracle could let you do a LOT of quests even as low as level 8, no stupid Battle Power system requiring a dedicated number. There were multiple tiers to cater to higher level players but you could still do the quest at the lower levels as an option. New Genesis? Sure, there's multiple tiers to quests that add higher levels for the more powerful players, but with each new quest that's added, you don't get the option of a lower level. The lowest level Urgent Quest at the beginning just had level 15 enemies/bosses, those got removed and pushed to being "trigger quests" and now the lowest level urgent quest requires level 40, only going higher with each region. Oracle has been mostly abandoned because majority of players only "play" New Genesis (by that I mean they log in, do the dailies and an urgent quest or two, then AFK in town or log out), and the fact that you are now forced to start in New Genesis when you make a character, you no longer can start your journey in Oracle until you reach a certain point in New Genesis. Once New Genesis first launched, a large number of players had to give up playing because of weaker hardware making it impossible to play since it forced them to start in New Genesis only, even if they already had existing characters from Oracle. In closing, I personally only see a declining future for this game and after how much I enjoyed Oracle, that's a real shame. I can't see this game being saved at this point.
Ummmm yeah, can't say much, combat is okay ig but don't scratch mi MMO itch
anti cheat broke the game i cant play it i keep getting an error when trying to launch it i tried every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fix... this game used to work just fine back in the day ffs sega
First, I'm a Phantasy Star fan and have been for decades. PSO2 was one of my all time favs. PSO2 NG took what they did in PSO2 and made it so much more. Yes I would recommend this game to others. The action can be very intense or laid back. Yes the customization is over the top, but since PSO2 its been that way and needs more. I would love to see a PSO3 in the future and that wont happen without positive feedback. Everyone that has played this game has very much enjoyed it, and you know it! Love it and recommend it!
