Okay, let's get to basics: - Is this a good game? Yes - Is it as good as Person 4 or 5? Hell no. - Is it a good "remake" of 3? It is - Does it fix the core issues 3 always had? Only partially Persona 4 is in the top 5 of my all time favorite games & 5 is pretty close in quality. I never managed to complete 3 however and the reason is one shared by many: the characters. Where 4 has a wonderfully diverse range of characters where you really create a close group of friends (same as in 5), 3 is like taking 4 & 5 & making it corporate. It all feels too stiff, lacks the comedy of 4 & 5, lacks the colourful characters and except for a few story lines, nothing really engages you to continue playing. Whereas I couldn't stop playing 4 or 5, 3 feels like a slog at times. The pacing is off & exploring the city is nowhere near as fun as in the two newer Persona games. Perhaps they remained a bit too faithful with this remake. They did address some of the combat issues & added mechanics from the newer Persona games but the biggest issue, the stale characters, remains. Still, if you've never played 4 or 5 you'll probably quite enjoy this game if you like a story driven jRPG. If you HAVE played 4 or 5 it really depends on how much you enjoyed the combat. If you felt the story & characters made the game work for you, then 3 might be a dissapointment.

Die 13h die ich in der Demo verbracht habe waren 10/10. Bis zum End Game wurde es aber immer langweiliger. Dann Anfang End Game wieder 10/10 aber heilige Scheiße zieht sich das Ende sowas hab ich noch nie gesehen. Abgesehen davon würde ich jedem empfehlen mindesten ein Persona Game mal gespielt zu haben vorallem wenn es normalerweiße nicht das Genere ist was einen Interessiert. Ach und bevor ich es vergesse die Deutsche Lokalisierung ist ein schlechter Scherz.

Do not let hearsay discourage you from playing this masterpiece. Persona 3 Reload is a remake of the original Persona 3 and like Portable and FES it presents itself differently from the original in a unique, yet superb, manner. If you're considering picking this up as your first persona experience, please do not let hearsay from people who have most likely never touched a SMT or Persona game influence your decisions. This game has masterful story, characters and even gameplay. I believe this game can actually be a great introduction to the JRPG genre and turn based games for people that always thought they weren't for them (myself included). Starting off with the easiest point; the gameplay is straightforward yet satisfying, the way you aren't bound to any sort of forced decisions when it comes to characters to add to your party or even personas, it truly feels like an emotional choice as to who you bring along your journeys instead of a gameplay bound one. The fact that the game is "easy" is actually a plus for me, many people comment how "it's more challenging at first but becomes too easy later" which is true, but I also find that to be important for the story. This game is about growth, connections and emotions, you becoming stronger when they develop I find to be a nice story told through gameplay; the new mechanics are fun, although occasionally very OP, but they make the game less stale and feel more emotional. Plus, being an easier game compared to its predecessors can be a great incentive for new players looking to start this series. The Social Links aspects is what I found to be most surprising and possibly the greatest part of this game. Everybody is written so unbelievably well, I'd find it hard to believe there's characters who haven't made you feel a certain way. Whether you love them or despise them, Like Maya or Suemitsu, the way the characters can still convey the truth about humanity resonates with me completely: the protagonist is an empty shell finding out the entire spectrum of humanity through these Social Links, that at the same time shape you, the player, to reflect and realize how those around you affect you and who you are as a person. There is also a gameplay wise incentive to do these links, yet I found myself falling in love with their stories way before I could care about fusion EXP. This game's story is nothing short of a best seller worthy narration. Every member of SEES, even the ones you can't have a Link with, feel real and wholly developed. Even in their annoying moments, I never once found myself hating any character purely because of how well Atlus writes managed to make them human so you can empathize with them. Junpei's never ending tragedy, Mitsuru's coldness and unapproachable vibe masking a sweet and caring person, Yukari's insecurity and fear, and so on are all masterfully crafted stories you get to influence with your presence. The villains too are interesting, mysterious without being goofy and over the top, and towards the ending the game puts in your hands one of the hardest choices you could make, with the ending of this game being possibly one of the best of all time in my opinion. Music is impeccable, although this is known to be a trait of persona games, i find reload's remakes to often be even better than the original P3's soundtracks, and I listen to them on a daily basis. As far as Dub and dialogues go, I played the game entirely in Japanese so I can't vouch for how they are in English, however knowing Atlus, there is no doubt in my mind that they managed to bring the naturalness and impact of this game's dialogues to their full potential even in English. Finally we come to my only critique. The Expansion Pass. "The Answer" DLC is something I don't believe to be extremely necessary to the story. I say this because the price tag is hefty, so it's reassuring to know you aren't missing out on fundamental plot. I like the DLC, but it being forcefully linked to a pass increasing its price is pretty scummy, especially for a DLC that isn't anything revolutionary. Overall, P3R is a masterpiece by Atlus. This game is something incredible and what I believe to be a great introduction to this genre of games, and an absolute gem even for players well versed in JRPGs or Atlus' works.
