Persona 3 FES is my favorite Persona game, and one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. The themes of the story resonate with me the most, as a fan of Saint Seiya and Bleach, the focus on death and Greek mythology (especially the Pro-Logos elements) feels like a match made in heaven. It serves as a perfect counterpoint to the very Gnostic tone of Persona 5, which is my least favorite entry in the series. Even though Makoto doesn’t have many spoken lines, he’s the protagonist I can most easily imagine responding to situations. Junpei is by far the best protagonist buddy in the series, comparing him to Ryuji isn’t even fair. Yukari has one of the best Social Links in the entire franchise. Mitsuru was my main love interest, great design and backstory. Thanatos and Messiah are my favorite protagonist Personas in the series. Sanada is an incredible character, and his relationship with Shinji is fantastic. On the other hand, Amada is the worst party member for me, he genuinely makes parts of the story worse because his actions remove Shinji from it. Koromaru and Fuuka fulfill their roles well, but they don’t evoke strong emotions in me (though they’re both very cute). Aigis, however, is a perfect character, it is my favorite party member in terms of both gameplay and lore. The Answer is the single most emotional piece of content Atlus has ever produced for me. It’s incredible. The only downside is the heavy grinding. The best way to experience Persona 3, now we are gonna talk about why i think like this: Regarding the Reload version: The good parts: Fully voiced Social Links are fantastic. Other than Junpei, I loved almost every Japanese voice cast member. Tartarus is way less boring now that fatigue is gone and you have P5-style movement. Being able to control the whole party, along with Shift and Theurgy, are great modernizations (even if I think they made Theurgy a bit overpowered). The new ways to boost Social Stats through activities and the Link Episodes are excellent QoL improvements. The bad parts: Not including all the Personas from FES is ridiculous. The game is heavily themed around Greek mythology, yet it has fewer Greek Personas than the original. They should have added new ones that didn’t appear before, like Zeus. Having to buy Episode Aigis separately is also terrible. Another thing I hate is that they removed most of the anime cutscenes in favor of this 3D soulless animation. The remake feels cheap compared to what we’ve seen from P4 Revival so far. Finally, the censorship, it’s all terrible and unnecessary. People who are too sensitive for this kind of content don’t have the capacity to play games like Persona anyway; they’re just larpers. Atlus has always pushed boundaries, especially beyond Western limits. By Christ sake be brave about it! I still think FES is the best way to play Persona 3, but I prefer the Episode Aigis version from the remake. I hope P4 Revival turns out better.
