Perfect Tides

Perfect Tides made me very emotional the whole time I was playing. I am so glad to have experienced this beautiful game.

the game rips. i finished it while reading Ben Lerner's Transcription and both works have deeply honest portrayals of their protagonists and give as much time to joy and the sublime as they do to pettiness, anxiety, and a need to be acknowledged. the locales are beautiful, the cast is really funny, there are some really good gags.

just finished this game up! what a ride. i love how true to life the interactions in this game are. the characters feel like real people i used to know another lifetime ago. you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll yell at your computer screen and even audibly say "what the ♥♥♥♥" multiple times. simply stunning visuals paired with fun bits of fluid animation where it counts. if you enjoy twisted yet true tales of teenage angst and coming of age stories, this is the game for you.

[h1]Rough point & click game, but a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good story.[/h1] [h1]8/10[/h1] [b]This is a grounded yet funny coming-of-age story[/b], where both the narrative and its protagonist develop in some pretty unexpected and emotional ways throughout the four seasons the game spans. The main character may be a little unlikeable and bratty at times, but in a very understandable way, and the rest of the cast of characters is equally memorable and flawed. The setting is pretty interesting and unique too, despite looking kinda mundane at first glance, and the charming art style does a great job fleshing out both the characters and the world. [b]As for the gameplay... it feels like it´s old school for the sake of being old school. [/b] It uses a retro interface, but the game doesn’t really do anything with it, and it just ends up making the experience clunkier. I don’t think the puzzles were particularly memorable (and the game doesn’t really have many), and there’s a lot of annoying missable content that makes the story better. I also ran into a few somewhat frustrating cases of pixel-hunting. This is one of the rare cases that made me wish this was an “interactive movie” instead - [b].but nevertheless, I 100% think this game is worth playing for the story.[/b]

Meredith Gran being Meredith Gran, giving us a realistically agonizing portrayal of the most mundane moments in life, including: -Trying to have important conversations with your loved ones (impossible) -Trying to have normal conversations with your loved ones (impossible) -Trying to make and enjoy basic interpersonal relationships (impossible) -Simply existing without hating everyone and everything and yourself (impossible) -Copywrited music

Surprisingly well written! Aside from growing up in almost exactly the timeframe of the game, I have/had almost nothing in common with the main character. Despite that, this game was absolutely making me flash back to that time in my life in a way that no other game has. That's a bit of a mixed bag, since I'm not sure I actually WANTED to relive some of those feelings, but it's still remarkable. My only serious nitpick would be that the 02.mp3 thing flat out does not work, or didn't for me. The game makes a big deal about this -- enough to literally pull you out of the game to set it up -- and then it simply doesn't do anything. That's a very strange bug to paint yourself into a corner with! Definitely a game worth playing for point & click fans!

This game contains probably one of the most accurate depictions that I've ever seen in media of how it feels to be lonely, isolated and a misfit. Everything else in the story is very touching and true to life but that's the thing that resonated most with my personal experiences. It's also just a really accurate depiction of what it's like to be a depressed, struggling teenager that's both empathetic and doesn't shy away from how dumb teens can be. It made me reflect on how much my adolescence sucked and how grateful I am to be out of high school now. We could really use more of those stories to help people understand how children/teens experience the world, from their own POV, instead of dismissing them as irrational, irrelevant and incompetent It's a point-and-click game though so it's got some confusing puzzles and sometimes you just have to pace around the environment and keep checking for things you might've missed. I used a guide on Steam that doesn't have any story spoilers and it got me through when I got stuck.

Clunkier to play than its sequel, but still an incredible point-and-click game that's like a graphic novel you play through. Sometimes how to progress was a little obtuse, considering this is really all about following a story anyway. But, this is still an amazing game, and some of the best storytelling in gaming full-stop.

An enthralling story that explores love, youth, and discomfort in a way that sucks you in immediately. Perfect Tides is one of the most genuine feeling games I’ve ever played, and several moments hit me deeply in places that I wasn’t expecting. I want to tell everyone I know and meet about this game, and it will be sticking with me for a long, long time.
