The would be an incredibly fun game to play with friends, unfortunately it's only single player :( If you were entertained by just the fighting in Overgrowth, without the multiplayer, and you like dinosaurs, I recommend this game. If you'd get bored of that pretty quick... then don't get this. Seriously, this game would POP OFF with multiplayer, I really hope the developer adds it some day.
I wouldn't recommend the game only if you were someone who has previously played games like Beasts of Bermuda, The Isle, or Path of Titans. I previously played some of these titles for 30+ hours total before, and playing this game in comparison, it felt janky. the animations were quite stiff or didn't make much sense for the creatures they were representing, and strengths and powerscaling felt inconsistent. I believe it can be a fun game, but in its current state, the game just didn't feel complete and didn't feel that polished in some departments. The game runs excellently though. I faced no performance problems and for that I commend them It is fun just to get a really quick play session in, but that's about all it extended to for me. It didn't really captivate me to keep coming back. I will say, it is eight dollars, so that's not a bad price at all. It just wasn't for me, but it could be for someone else
The game is alright, but I was expecting something different. It is described and depicted as a physics based fighting game on the steam store, however, the actual game had hardly any physics based combat. The closest the game gets to physics combat is moving your camera to swing your tail over a wider area. The game does have a good variety of prehistoric animals to play as and the dinosaur models look great. But there is only four game modes and no multiplayer which is unfortunate.
One of the times I wish there was a neutral rating. While I personally LOVE this game, it is something I would be careful on who I recommend it to, as there are many quirks to it that I know would be a huge turn-off. I'm normally not one for fighting / combat arena games, but this one has a special place in my heart. Playing it is genuinely fun and helps me focus, and it's actually been quite useful for my creative work too. I don't know why, but something about playing as a dino, tearing up other dinos, makes my creativity go off. Not a muse I thought I'd have, but here I am. The species selection in the game is decent. Plenty of iconic species. All of them are terrestrial creatures, so nothing aquatic or flying. There's a handful of maps available. They aren't just retextures either, they do have their own mechanics that make playing in them a bit different. Balancing between species is generally what you'd expect. There are some I think could use some tweaks personally, but it's nothing game breaking. Mostly. 'Cause let's talk about my biggest issue with this game - the bugs. -Tearing meat chunks off of carcasses occasionally launches said carcass into the stratosphere. -Enemy AI sometimes gets confused and tries to attack corpses. Including ones that are already in pieces and partially eaten. -Pair the two above points together, and sometimes enemies will try repeatedly to attack body parts that are out of bounds. -Enemy AI in general sometimes just becomes chill and stops attacking for a bit. -Launch physics on the Compy is so extreme I had to download Universal Unreal Unlocker mid game to get myself out of a softlock, because the Compy enemies I was fighting kept clipping out of bounds. (I did take screenshots of this, and if I knew how to attach them, I would. It was kinda funny at least) -Enemies that are stunned can still attack you with any secondary abilities they have. Ankylosauruses are the worst offenders in this regard. Stay away from their tails until they're actually dead. -Tail swipe hit detection is pretty iffy, sometimes hitting things it didn't collide with, and sometimes doing nothing to something it did collide with. -Launching / pouncing at enemies is also iffy with detection. Sometimes you clip through the target, other times you get magnet'd to them. -Enemies that can jump and cling into you sometimes cannot hurt you. If your sizes happen to just not align and there's no secondary ability that can be used while holding on, there is nothing it can do while clinging. -There is a constant buzzing noise playing whenever this application is open. I don't know why, I've tried a mixture of sound settings for the game and nothing changes it. But my misophonia has noticed, and refuses to un-notice. -If you're trying to eat a meat piece or insect that's too close to an object you can pick up, you cannot eat it until you move the grabbable object away. -Some species just cannot pick up or eat certain objects for whatever reason. Mammoths are particularly bad about this. -When trying to time getting a second wind, your computer's cursor gets unlocked from the game window, and can click onto and make other windows active and screw up your timing. I've lost some games to this. -If you try to select "Remain" after winning a game, the game crashes. Dunno if that's just me or not. -The achievement for winning a game on all maps does not accurately track your progress. I should have it by now, but it got stuck at 3. (EDIT - I suddenly got it after finishing a spectator match. I have no idea why, but this did resolve itself, so.) All those bugs in mind, the only other issue I'd say there is - accessibility settings. They're minimal. There's the classic stuff like camera sensitivity, blood effects, toggling if controls need to be held or not. But there's several mechanics in the game that require spam-pressing keys rapidly for longer than a few seconds, and there is nothing in settings that can reduce this for those with issues like wrist injuries. As someone with permanent wrist issues, ow. Literally. Kind of on the same note, there's also nothing pertaining to difficulty settings. Strengths, stun timers, stun resistance and recoveries, speed, etc., are not tweakable at all. Not saying this as a good or bad point, just as a point I'd advise anyone interested to keep in mind. Not much I personally have to say about the art. Models are high quality, audio is good, I like that most species have alternate skins you can use, the scenery looks goods. Gets a good score for me here. And the biggest point I would mention to interested buyers - there is NO multiplayer. It is strictly you vs NPCs. If you're like me and hate multiplayer things, this won't bother you. If you like combat games for the competitive scene though, this won't work for you without devising an offline system for it. Can't think of much else I want to say about the game so I'll call it here. I love it. I can clearly see why others would be neutral or dislike it though. It has room to improve for sure, but it's still something I will shamelessly be spending many more hours on.
[ Combat System, Sounds, The Animations And The Graphics Are Great ] [ I Can Say However The Models Can Be Inconsistent From Accurate Looks To Inaccurate Looks ] [ Either Way I'd Say This Game Is Great ]Maybe Just Multiplayer To Make It More Replayable Overall Though Great! ]
Path of Titans if the devs were so high they could look down on heaven when they made it. 10/10
