Penny Larceny: Gig Economy Supervillain

Love this game, universe and characters Edit : just finished getting all the endings. What a great game

I liked it but I wouldn't recommend it. It really had me, I thought the visuals were fun and the storylines entertaining. The social construct of hero vs mask was very interesting to see play out, [spoiler] especially with the Muscle Man guy [/spoiler]. However, the dialogue is self-aware to a ridiculous point and really just allows for lazy story-writing and plotholes. [spoiler] The fact that you literallly defeat the mystical space demon being worshipped by a whole blood cult just by telling them that you're a person playing a video game and giving them an existential crisis is just so tired, it may as well all have been a dream. The first storyline I completed was the Blood Cult one and it almost made me delete the game. That's the biggest bad you really deal with other than your exploitative, billionaire Father and capitalism itself [/spoiler]. If you do play it, do the Blood Cult storyline or the Penny storyline last. Doing either of them first ruins the mystery for the rest of the game and there's nothing else quite as developed

After playing one route and the demo, it's... alright. The game has some funny jokes, but the plot itself was very "in one ear, out the other". This is in large part because of the game having a mission-based structure that you can choose at your leisure. This would be fine if the missions were consistent in quality, but there's a really large gap in quality between my favorite and least favorite heists. The best of the bunch (the CPU heist with an Elon Musk parody) was really funny, while the worst (the pizza bagel heist) almost led to me dropping the game then and there. The presentation is also very average by visual novel standard: the character portraits are nice, but there's about all you'll see besides chalkboards, along with copy-pasted locations. Definitely try the demo first to see if it's your thing. If your main draw is the sense of humor, go ahead and give this game a shot. If you're looking for a more cohesive story in your satirical super-villain narrative, consider Henchman Story instead. If the demo didn't spark your interest or get you laughing, go ahead and pass on this one.

Played three runs now. It's a lot of fun. Rogue-like visual novel is a fun genre combo. Soundtrack is great. I end up dancing in my seat the entire time. My spouse snaps along whenever he enters the room and I am playing it.

In the running for the best VN I've ever played. Thank you truly to the writers, developers, and artists, I absolutely adore this art you've created.

I have played through one route so far (Doctor Mayhem’s), and I love it! In fact, I can’t stop thinking about this game, so I definitely need to explore the other routes now. Works perfectly on my Steam Deck, too. The characters are complex, and the heists you do are both entertaining and have important messages about society and capitalism. I love that Penny can be asexual and/or aromantic. I’m asexual but still like romance, so I really appreciate this. This game has excellent electro-swing/jazz music. If they release the soundtrack on steam, I would probably buy it! Fantastic artwork as well. One minor critique I have is that I wish there was more background art, like a proper bank interior background. Whenever Penny was in a bank, there would be a classic office interior instead, which I didn’t think fit very well. This is minor, though, and I could use my imagination.

I got to bang a computer, even if the game wasn't good, i would recommend it just because of that

This visual novel is a pleasure to play. Good amount of play time, not too much. Dialog and character development are meaningful and leave you curious to discover more paths. If you enjoyed Undertale you should love this game. This game is an adult-ish version of the Saturday morning cartoons you might have seen as a kid in the 2000's.
