"Pathogen Purge - Tower Defense" is a very mediocre tower defense with only one differentiator, instead of robots or orcs, your towers shoot pathogens. They way this is skinned, however, is the least of the problems. What do you do in the game? This is as generic as tower defense games can get, but also, of course, lacks polish, it feels a bit like this is a beta test that got published through Steam Direct with the hopes of going viral for, well, no reason whatsoever to do so. I don't know what goes through the minds of amateur developers sometimes. Do they not look at what other games are on Steam before slapping down $100 on Steam Direct? The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was ambitiously charging $4 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. It's also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who paid money for this... nobody got refunded. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

The game isn't playtested enough, you can't click most of the towers after placing them and the some enemies will destroy your towers even if the path isn't blocked. Wont go hard unless it's fixed.
This is an engaging microbiological tower defense game that merges strategic planning with action, allowing players to assume the role of Nanobot Guardians tasked with protecting the human body from persistent microbes and viruses. However, the game has not undergone sufficient playtesting; players are unable to interact with many of the towers after they have been placed, and certain enemies can damage towers even when the path is unobstructed. The experience will not be fully enjoyable until these issues are resolved.
