Чудеснейший сгусток меланхолии и безысходности. На анивизе есть русификатор кста.
The intersection of perspectives, loneliness, and friendship. An important lesson about how our minds can sabotage us. As many visual novels demonstrate, our subconscious thoughts have a significant influence on the reality we create for ourselves. Despite the entire context of loneliness and melancholy, it is evident how a positive influence can transform our lives. It's all about the perspective we adopt. The illustrations are beautiful and highlight the melancholy present throughout history. Esther and Seina brought to light an aspect that had been on my mind for a while: the beauty of sharing different realities and ways of living while enjoying each other. Esther and Isaiah's changes in narratives reinforce their similarities, and demonstrate how the sensitivity of our hearts can affect the course of our stories. My mind has dispersed at certain points in history. It's a slow reading pace, but not in a negative way. Though the playstyle is aimed at a specific audience, some inconsistencies may bother more discerning readers. Overall, I'm grateful to the developers for this beautifully sad piece of fiction. To sum it up, I am a hopeless romantic.

How do you develop the character of a dead man? Pale Cachexia does this extremely well by supplying journal notes and flashbacks of Isaiah in segments. This goes on as a day to night cycle where Esther reads his scrambled notes giving contextual clues towards the decay of mind and matter. As night falls upon Esther, we venture to the memories of Isaiah which showcases his time involving Seina and how he goes from bitter to a caring father. I was impressed how this was done, as sometimes it isn't executed properly but it's done with lots of attention in this story. 2. Just like Isaiah, Seina's character also develops through Isaiah's memories along with the present day interacting with Esther. With this, it also paves a way to Seina's thoughts and intentions for the future when the story hits the climax and proceeds to its resolution. Making Isaiah and Seina intertwine even though one of them is deceased surely works greatly in this scenario. Later on in the story, Seina's strong independence starts to break down, eventually showing her vulnerabilities which also greatly showcases her role. 3. The pacing was great. It didn't feel rushed nor dragged on as the writers knew when to input a time jump that felt necessary to progress the story. 4. It's all in the small details. From introducing the key at the very start, to subtle changes in Seina's actions, to the missing pages of Isaiah's notes, and finally the mental decay showing in Isaiah's notes gives us proper context clues to decipher what can happen. Some stories outright explain it to you in dialogue, but Pale Cachexia does it well in its own way in letting the past tell the story. 5. The art is fantastic and it is not only for looks. Esther and Isaiah both possess the Pale, their lives are hard on a daily basis and gets worse with each passing day. Both dress in dark elegant colors in the grim world they live in, meanwhile Seina is bright not only in her attitude but also in dress code. Seina being the brightest beacon in both Isaiah and Esther's lives. The art is soft, mellow and inoffensive to the eye, it can be seen as relaxing in a way which heightens the experience. 6. The music absolutely fits in to the dreary setting of the dark manor and lonely woods. It does an excellent job for moments of serenity and the tense moments of ambient horror, making the experience worth it. 7. The cryptic textual change in Isaiah's section was a nice touch. Cons: 1. Esther's character felt very bland, and even though it is acknowledged by the characters themselves along with the Pale being a disease that eventually immobilizes you, she just didn't have much presence in comparison to Seina or Isaiah. Isaiah is similar to Esther, but he showed far more personality even if he had indirect parts. Conclusion: Pale Cachexia is a powerful emotional journey that provides you with well developed characters and an intriguing plot of dealing with the almost inevitable. Surely a story that will hit your heart in the right places. Score: 9/10 OUTSTANDING
Cachexia, a wasting syndrome that leads to loss of skeletal muscle and fat, is estimated to occur in up to 80% of people with advanced cancer, depending on different factors. Without any doubt this is probably best novel I read, so far... and yet it is heavy riding, dark and grim story done in gothic artstyle. Pale Cachexia is a novel about Esther a young girl affected by Cachexia disease. When science or medicine fail, people often go outside of conventional boundaries, religion, alternative sciences to help themselves. Same thing happened to our Esther, after she heard rumors about alchemist that lives in forest that might found a cure for her disease she went there all alone. ...when everything fails hope is all we have.... This novel as I already mentioned is heavy reading, plenty of heavy monologues about struggle, survival, loneliness and hope. Monologues are fantastic with deep philosophical thoughts often very long going for pages and pages, getting into her mind as deeply as possible. They want us to be there in her mind, all the time, and not just to be there but to understand. Hard job for developers, but also for a reader. Just think about it for a second, imagine you get up in the morning and you can`t get out of bed, but nothing is wrong with you, you just don`t have enough energy to do anything. This is what this novel wants you to imagine. What also amazed me is that this novel has only 3 characters and still managed to keep me interested in a story, slowly reading every world, just marvelous. I admire her in any way, I admire Esther, her will to survive, her struggle and her endless hope, after all hope is what kept her alive and what`s keeping her alive. Her mentality is so strong, she has to be, she has to be stonger then any of us, and she is... Bloody amazing novel, never read anything so deep, so profound before and most important they got it, they got the point they wanted to achieve with this story. Every word, every line of text is so well done. The more you read, more you are close to an end, words have more meaning, words you read when you start reading this novel, every word becoming heavier and heavier giving you burst of emotions at the end. Emotional masterpiece.
The hauntingly composed piano piece over at the main menu certainly sets the tone of the story that you would expect from Pale Cachexia. But in the midst of its sombre tunes, lies a tale of self-sacrifice; all in the hopes of attaining that eternal sunshine. Pale Cachexia is a linear kinetic visual story novel that is set in a gothic fantasy tale. It’s a visual novel game without any branching story or multiple endings. Despite the lack thereof, the transfixed ending of Pale Cachexia leaves a satisfactory taste albeit its dark fantasy theme. Pale Cachexia unfolds the tale of a young girl named Esther. On her quest to find the cure to the mysterious ailment, Pale Cachexia or the Pale, the last legs of her journey bring her towards an unknown forest; rumoured that the potential cure to the incurable disease lies within. But when her path crossed with Senia, a walking bundle of sunshine, the two girls will ultimately make the toughest choice in procuring their promised happiness. The pacing in Pale Cachexia is well maintained throughout the near 5 hours worth of gameplay, which to my surprise, am capable of finishing the entire story within a single seating. Though do not be disheartened by the shorter hours, but be thankful for it. The writing in Pale Cachexia is vivid in its description and the writer spare no expense in unleashing his vocabulary prowess within the story. Along with its beautifully illustrated art style, it’s possible to be entirely engrossed with the story and finish Pale Cachexia within a single weekend afternoon. The only gripes I have with Pale Cachexia is the missing staple UI that can be commonly found in other Visual Novels. There are no quicksave button, no fast forward key, no previous lines key etc. Despite their absence, it’s not detrimental to the experience gotten from playing Pale Cachexia. Pale Cachexia is surprisingly a poetic visual novel game. It’s easy to be immersed in the story and finish its entirety within a single setting. Despite the short 5 hour playthrough, the strong writing and well-written plot may warrant another playthrough.
Short Review:
- Kinetic visual novel (no choices) - Complexity in story and characters - Heavy topics of death, illness, grief, guilt, and loneliness - Somewhat open ending - Nice art, including unlockables - Soundtrack that perfectly enhances mood - Overall an atmospheric, emotional story I enjoyed!
Full Review:
What an atmospheric, emotionally complex story. This kinetic novel (visual novel without any choices) has elements of horror and fantasy, and there are some creepy parts, but it's mostly mysterious and melancholic, dealing with the heavy topics of death/dying, illness, grief, guilt, and loneliness. I liked the complexity and nuance in this story. Things that seemed sweet at first were sad and maybe even a little disturbing the more you thought about them. Characters made decisions that they thought were best, but they weren't always right. Isaiah's character was especially interesting because I both liked and disliked him. I understood his reasoning, felt for him, and even related to him in some ways, but I also often disagreed with him and his actions. The story itself was very small in scope, focusing on three characters and the relationships between them. Love between a father and daughter. Deep friendship between two girls, each lonely in their own way. A man's experiences with romance, friendship, and society that pushed him to become isolated. The mystery of what happened in the past and what would happen kept me hooked. The ending was a bit open and left me with some unanswered questions, but I liked that it was unexpected yet fitting. It suited the characters and drew upon all the personalities, relationships, and themes in the story. Without spoiling anything, I'll say I'm glad it wasn't a *poof* fingers snapped and everything is perfect sort of ending. I don't know if there were any effects or visuals I missed since I mostly played with self-voicing (TTS). But from what I did see, the character art is nice, the backgrounds have a beautiful, kind of classically artistic style, and there are pretty scenes of the characters that you unlock as you go and can see again later from the main menu. There's also a lovely soundtrack that enhances all the different moods of the story. Overall, I felt for these characters and appreciated this mysterious, atmospheric, emotional story about loneliness, isolation, friendship, and good (or questionably good) intentions sometimes having unintended outcomes. I recommend it if you like kinetic novels that deal with heavy topics and make you feel. *Review can also be found on my blog (link in profile).*
Accessibility:
(May not include everything) - Partially accessible for blind / visually impaired players and screen reader users with Ren’Py self-voicing mode (press V to toggle). Game text will be read aloud, but menus will not. - More accessibility features listed in description on store page.
A short story of a chronically ill girl in search of a cure for her mysterious disease, a lonely girl in a house in the middle of nowhere, and in the background, the lonely girl's father who tried to find a cure for the disease before mysteriously vanishing. A quiet melancholic tale with a bit of light horror. Not a huge amount to the story and the ending’s a bit non-committal but it has a great sense of atmosphere. Sounds such as crunching footsteps, a crackling fire and the muffled pattering of rain go a long way to creating that quiet realistic ambiance.
Beautiful. Beautiful. BEAUTIFUL. This game is one of those games you just know you WILL cry. I'm already just so attached to the characters. There's this mystery playing out from Esther's perspective and I'm torn between playing quickly to get some answers or stopping on every screen getting lost in the art. There are so many unique backgrounds and expressions for the character's a lot of care went into the art. Absolutely play this game. There is a demo to start with or I was gifted a copy to play on my YouTube channel so there are a couple of ways to get your feet wet but I don't know if you'll be able to stop yourself form buying this game after you start ;). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYymNVYYWq8
I read a lot of Visual Novels so I'm not unfamiliar with slow pacing but I found Pale Cachexia an absolute chore to get through, especially when you have to wait a few seconds with sprite transitions for the next text block to appear, making everything just feel sticky/even slower Pale Cachexia constantly feels like it's on the verge of getting really interesting, which is why I stuck with it, but the moments of intrigue are spread out between tons of boring overly written waffle. The characters have moments of intrigue but are really one note - so you're just constantly going over moments of character development that we've already seen multiple times The atmosphere, soundtrack and visuals are really really nice though, to be fair
It's a good one
