Ovidius (Blood for Love)

I am a huge fan of all things historical and the Roman setting is one that appeals to me a lot, that is why I bought this game as soon as it was released to experience an AVN in this setting, unfortunately a technical difficulty prevented me to play the game comfortably as I was playing this one on my Mac rather than my Xbox Ally which eventually forced me to refund the game. Thanks to a lucky hack I could still see the game to the end and here is my honest take on the game. I begin first with what I liked about this game: Roman setting, warrior ethos, girl on girl gladiator scene involving lewd scenes, deflowering virgins, and dealing with Roman emperor conspiracy are things we come to love about fictions in such settings and they exist in this game. The music in the background is quite good and the game includes story telling, light free roam, and combat all of which come with a walkthrough embedded in the original game. In many ways the game is trying to be the next Void's Calling in a Roman setting and that is a genius idea that alas has not been tested enough in AVN's which is why I jumped in as soon as the game was released. Now on to the the cons, the game is absurdly short for a game of this setting, it can literately be finished in less than 2 hours and while the game starts well with character development in its first act, it rushes to become jumping from lewd scenes with one concubine to another servant which substantially reduces the weight of the plot. The conspiracy theory of the prince poisoning his own father for power and hosting orgies with other dignitaries all could have been the plot of dozens of hours of game time yet all that potential is missed and the game seems rushed, not to mention without achievements or trading cards to make it worth the player's while. The game ends abruptly and the animations and renders are of two generations ago (the type made before 2020). At this price I would have recommended the developer to release this game as an early access and try to add more acts and contents to the game to fully realize the untapped potential behind this game and hope that in the future we actually get a good AVN in a Roman setting that ideally comes with achievements and/or trading cards that are come to be expected of modern AVN's and new titles on Steam. I salute the developer for choosing the right setting and idea for an AVN but ultimately cannot recommend this game in its current state unless more chapters and content is later added. This game is currently a demo of what it could be and honestly there are many demos I played that are longer than this game so I hope the developer adds more content to this game by adding more acts or else it would not be worth the money compared to other games in this genre, instead I would recommend Void's Calling for those who want to have a high quality experience in a similar albeit not identical setting and style.

It doesn't take long for us to learn that in fact someone betrayed the general and his legion, wanting him to fall. Right off the bat it doesn't take a genius to figure out who it was, but we need to prove it. That doesn't take long either. Until then, our mighty general will fill the holes of many women along the way, even those who point a blade to his throat, eventually drop their pants and give their first time to this hero! [b][u]The gameplay[/u][/b] features so many different elements that are really unnecessary in my opinion. During fight scenes you have 10 seconds to pick one of three options, pick wrong and it's over. Then there's inspecting the main character's home, trying to read a letter, which gives you scrolling upwards text like end credits of a movie, good luck reading that font. There's a needless pick left, right, up or down navigation course to make it to the chambers of the princess. On top of it all, there are character stats, like love, anger, romance etc. Your choices affect them, but honestly no idea how much stats just change on their own. All of these interactive features feel as if they were added to extend the game time and keep you feeling immersed, however they all appear once and never again, and are quite redundant. The developer actually added a built in walkthrough to help you with the right choices and not bother with game over screens. Pick the right choices and you'll unlock the NSFW scenes with many different ladies along the way. They are all vanilla, nothing fancy. The audio in the scenes feels like it was ripped straight out of a porno. Strange SFX and moaning that you cannot disable, and it ruins the scenes in some cases. The first scene with Euphemia (girls names can be changed), is probably the best scene. The rest are all over the place with quality, a lot of errors, AI image to video, and just bad angles, blurry renders, it's a mixed bag. Like the game as a whole. [b][u]The conclusion[/u][/b] is borderline at best. On top of renders and animations ranging in quality, there are a lot of bugs and errors. During the waterfall scene with two girls, you just get an error, it seems the AI animation doesn't work well there. English is sub par. A lot of spelling mistakes, and it doesn't seem like this was proofread. I think the most frustrating feature for me was the slow motion render transitions between dialogue, oh right and the constant shift in depth of field between characters in renders. So yeah I'm on the fence with this one, I can't say it's that bad, but it's not that good either. I'm leaning towards neutral territory here. The game time is very short, with an abrupt sudden end. Character info sheet has only 1 scene per character with 5 locked ones, so who knows maybe there is more content to come? Right now though, purchase at your own risk (especially with the price being quite high for 2 hours of content). Seems like a "part 1". Ends like if you're watching tv and someone pulls the plug. And it looks like there are many characters you meet that have little or no importance to the story It took me a bit over 2 hours reading slow, and if it was just the main story, it would have been maybe 45 minutes and I would have got my money back. Thumbs down unless there is a part 2.

I picked this up on a whim because the art style caught my eye, and I’m really glad I did. The characters feel genuinely unique, not just the usual tropes, and the writing is surprisingly thoughtful for the genre. The choices actually matter, and I’ve already gone back to try different routes. The adult content is tastefully done and fits the story, not just tacked on. If you’re into visual novels with solid storytelling, interesting romance options, and high‑quality artwork, this one’s worth your time. The price is fair for the amount of content. Hoping for more DLC or a sequel in the future!

La qualité d'image reste tout à fait correcte, mais terriblement vieillotte, comme une cassette VHS exhumée de sous le canapé d'un oncle un peu trop discret. Un charme désuet, assurément. On regrettera amèrement ces regards de poissons morts fixant le néant, et cette dentition des protagonistes qui évoque les heures les moins glorieuses de la chirurgie esthétique low cost. Car pendant que les personnages tentent de nous séduire avec leurs sourires carnassiers, toute poésie du moment présent s'évapore instantanément. Heureusement, les scènes pour adultes sont efficaces et bien senties, même si les décors restent aussi sommaires qu'une chambre d'étudiant un soir de déprime. L'ambiance tient pourtant la route, et nous rappelle que sans le budget pharaonique d'un Witcher 3, on peut encore bricoler du plaisir virtuel. Le minimalisme a du bon. Faut-il craquer pour Ovidius ? Malgré ses ratés techniques et ses gencives douteuses, le titre parvient à maintenir une tension dramatique suffisante pour nous faire oublier le vide abyssal de ses arrière-plans. Un plaisir coupable, donc, à savourer sans se faire d'illusions. 10,25€ ? Un poil cher. Est-ce que je recommande Ovidius (Blood for Love) ? Okay, whoever wrote this needs to stop. You have no talent in writing. Seriously, the writing is absolutely awful. This seems to have either been written by AI or terribly translated by it. And the story plays out like something a highschooler would create after watching Gladiator and thinking, "you know what was missing in that ... sex." But instead of create Spartacus on Stars they wrote like a they got the summary off of Tumbler. Yeah, it's that bad. If you're a fan Rome or historical settings for VNs go check out the Rebellion VNs. I highly recommend those. So, what about the models. Are they as good as they appear in the images and video? To put it simply, yes. I can say the models look good despite the fact that some of them look like direct copies of other characters from other VNs. I get it. Sometimes it's easier to just buy a character pack and use that. And it works just fine here. Even the animations are good. Very basic but decent enough. I've certainly seen much worse and honestly if the story and dialogue were better I'd likely be recommending this right up there with many other notable VNs but since H scenes only make up half the reason I read these. I can't even recommend this at $7. A relatively reasonable price otherwise. Look, I know, it's only $7 but I've read great VNs for $7. I mean, right now, at this moment, FreshWomen is on sale for $6.29 and that VN is absolutely worth every cent. I know it's on sale, but if you can get that on sale, there are dozens more in that same bracket for that price and at $7 this can't compete. Hell Rebellion is only a dollar more and it's infinitely better. So if you're eyeing this one, I'd say wait for a sale and at max I'd pay $5 for it. Look, I get that you’re not a native English speaker and perhaps that has a bit to do with my disappointment, but when you have scenes like [spoiler]when the “barbarian” girl shows up to save her companion and they both start to talk about suddenly feeling something like they love the MC completely out of nowhere while my guy is trying to prevent his own demise,[/spoiler] bruh, come on. I don’t care who you are or where you’re from that has got to read cheesy as f*ck regardless of the culture. It was dialogue written out like this that killed the story for me and boiled down character motivations to, “cool story bro, wanna f*ck.” A bit too modern p*rno for my taste. I usually expect more build up before hand, you know. Now, if the conversation had gone the way of, [spoiler]“I don’t understand why you are still with him.” And the other explained, “he’s a great warrior and will father many strong warriors for our people” and how both should stay until they are with child. That would have made more sense and I think that’s the direction you were heading but it got convoluted with bullsh!t about how they both felt something that draws them to him and it got lost.[/spoiler] Plus MCs motivation for [spoiler]”hunting” them should be more than just his pride. MC should be more motivated by protecting his progeny than anything and there should have been an option to find them shelter as his “property” to offer them more protection only for that to backfire later to raise the stakes.[/spoiler] And this is the kind of writing which constantly happened, where cheesy dialogue got in the way of a potentially great story. Additionally, for the first three acts almost nothing happens. There’s this “mystery” around [spoiler]what happened to him and his men in the battlefield[/spoiler] and does MC try to find out what actually happened, question people, put out spies, interrogate (wink wink) those who could know, etc? Nope. Instead he goes [spoiler]to get boozed up at a seemingly clueless (has no clue the sh!t he dealt with on the battlefield) bar keep’s tavern, who spends the entire time making bullsh!t statements about something he clearly knows nothing about just to try and dig at someone he knows can’t do sh!t about other people’s problems. Great strategy my guy. Piss off the people who are there to drink. So instead of MC discovering how people are treated. How the city he fought for has turned to sh!t all around him. He has to take the bar tenders word for it. Okaaaaaay.[/spoiler] Are you starting to see the missed opportunities here? Additionally, that mini game of [spoiker]go right, then left, then forward,[/spoiler]you should absolutely cut that for the VN. I’m a huge fan of anything set in the Roman Empire, so Ovidius: Blood for Love hooked me immediately. It’s a shorter game, but I actually preferred that because every scene feels important and there isn’t any boring filler just to make it longer. The art looks great and stays consistent the whole way through, and while the animations aren't mind-blowing, they definitely do the trick. The best part is easily the story; you can tell the writer actually cares about history, which makes it feel much more grounded than your average adult game. If you’re into Roman history or just want a well-written story that doesn’t waste your time, you should definitely grab this. I’d play a sequel in a heartbeat. Good job !!!
