At first I was excited for this product as I am a forever GM in need of a good map maker. However, once I got my hands on it... Its crap... utter lazy crap. My reasons are as follows: 1. Lazy import function When the devs said they were going to support importing images, I was excited. I had generated a map using another program online and thought it would be great to import the image of the map so I could make additions to it. What I expected was the ability for the program to trace the outline of the landmasses on the image and then I could fill it in with the areas I wanted. But NO. Instead Its an just an overlay to trace on. Not only that, but if you had a map for a single Continent, you can't import images for the Continent or Region views. Thanks to this, its incredibly tedious to draw out my map, as it was intended to be only a small section of the planet, about the size of the Caribbean Sea. 2. Clunky Outline Tool So when I tried to use the Outline tool to try to outline my "continents" mentioned above, the outline tool was incredibly clunky. A crappy click and drag system. if you let go of the mouse for even a second, it tries to "guess" what the rest would look like. when I finally got it to complete the outline of a small island, I then tried to use the Fill Tool that comes up when you finish and outline. The fill tool not only didn't fill the outline, it filled everything outside of the outline covering the whole map in the fill terrain leaving everything inside the outline blank. then when I tried to undo it, It deleted the successful outline i managed to do, without undoing the fill of the map. This is despite the fact I clicked inside the outline when trying to fill it. 3. Program nearly froze my computer when I tried to quit. Is your program so unstable that it will stop responding when people try to quit? Embarrassing. The only positive thing I can say is that the random generation tool works. That's not all that impressive, as even the free Azgaar generator online can do that. My disappointment is immeasurable, and I will be refunding this product. Shame on you devs. For even a basic tool program you really dropped the ball. Shame Shame Shame.
Updated 3/5/25 I tried to come back to this and it is just so buggy that I cannot use it. None of the tools work in a comprehensive way and the UI is always bugging. I will try again in another year. __________________________________________________________________________ Ok, this application is alright. If there was somewhere between a positive and negative review this would fit it. It is a good concept but poorly executed. One of the major issues is that this system is very poorly optimized. It does not run well and has a few bugs. The other issue, though a small one, is that it does lack variety and or tools. Building tiles are few so there is not a wide range of customization to your world. One continent will look identical to another. But bigger than that their is no wall tile/system. Also their is no bridge tile/system. The road system only has small dirt roads. All in all the idea is good, some of the tools are good, but it is lacking in some customization areas. The major things I want are more variety of tiles, specifically buildings. Better roads and bridges. A built in system to create unique building tiles, aka landmarks. MY BIGGEST issue is the price they are asking. It is NOT worth $30. You are better off using another program to create maps.
I want to like this — I want to use this. Overworld was on my wishlist as soon as I found it, and I was happy to accept a testing key and provide feedback. Unfortunately Overworld remains a neat toy that is missing some crucial exporting options to make it usable for me. The exported map area is influenced by your zoom level and view position, with no way to consistently define them. If you want to export multiple images that tile, consistently export the same grid size for a VTT platform, or return to export the same image with new notes this isn't the tool for you. If you want a rather cumbersome tool to make a hex map that nobody else will ever see or use this might be the tool for you. I'm still hopeful future updates will bring more features.
Probably the greatest map editor software on Steam! You can create your very own worlds in the Civilization style. There are plenty of tiles to choose from and hopefully more will come soon. If you want to do world building for whatever reasons, this one is probably the best choice to go for. The maps are massive, you can switch between world - continent - region modes, so you can detail your world on all of the levels. The graphics is very nice, you can make notes, points of interests and so much more Owo
Abandonware. I want to like this software. I do solo-rpgs and worldbuilding and I would love a tool like this. I want to like the devs. I bought the software, told them 'i think the price is too high' and they reduced the price for everyone within the week. But.... You can find bugs easily. New features never come out. Tools are extremely limited. There isn't workshop support. There isn't a community doing anything with this software. It feels like a compsci student project that should have been a map generator for another game. There is no feature in this that is worth the price. This is a project that does not seem to be going anywhere, and I'm sure I will find other and better tools to play my games and tell my stories.
I enjoy map making, so when I saw this I thought it was just a bare bones map maker without any extra crap. Sadly, this program is a hateful bastard who will fight you tooth and nail every step of the way while you grind your teeth into dust because you just lost 4 hours of work just because the program was poorly thrown together. It seems that the creator has also decided they would rather scarper off with our hard earned cash than to finish this project. Don't buy it...stick with Wonderdraft, Other World Mapper, or Hexographer.
over 140 hours and I'm still waiting for the achievement in 100 hours : ( . otherwise a pretty good tool for creating maps. I especially like the option of switching between continents and regions, but it would like more options. Overall, the program feels quite empty and does not use its full potential.
It's cool. It's not yet perfect but, it does things that other mappers don't even try to do.
