Outwars

That moment when you find a game of which you only had a demo as a kid.

Outwars is a great ancient 3rd person shooter. The missions are hit and miss, some pretty painful, some mediocre, but plenty are spectacular. I was very surprised how innovative and creative levels could get sometimes. It shocks me that a game this old could employ so much imagination in it, yet when I play modern games usually I sense no life in them. The difficulty is all over the place in this game, some missions are ridiculously hard, the others are piece of cake, it is so random that even some of the first missions are some of the hardest. What is really funny is that after you beat the mission you still have to wait 10 seconds or so for the game to trigger mission completion screen. And there were maybe 5 missions where I would beat the mission and get killed the very next second, but luckily the game usually treated the mission completion as the priority and I was not sent back to the start. 7/10

Da demasiados problemas para poder jugarse con normalidad (cosa que no he logrado). Para empezar los vídeos no funcionan (ni intros, ni los FMVs de las misiones), solo se escuchan. En teoría hay que instalar los códecs de vídeo Ligos Indeo Codec 5.11, pero ni por esas me ha funcionado. Creo que el problema es que el instalador de códecs (que no vienen incluidos y hay que buscarse la vida para bajarlos) no es compatible con Windows 10 64-bits. Seguimos con los menús, los cuales hay que controlar con el teclado porque hay una latencia terrible con el ratón desde cualquier menú, que hace totalmente imposible moverse a ningún sitio. Y para finalizar hay que trastear con el configurador 'dgVoodooCpl.exe' porque no han tocado nada y el detalle gráfico no funciona como debería verse. Yo me lo había comprado porque fue uno de los que no pude jugar en su día (ni ahora). Una pena que recuperen así juegos del pasado.

Rappel de mon enfance ! :) Pour jouer dans de bonnes conditions : - depuis le répertoire du jeu, lancer dgVoodooCpl.exe - onglet General > Output API = Direct3D 11 MS WARP (software) - onglet Glide > 3Dfx card = Voodoo Banshee (8MB/16/MB, 1TMU et 16MB RAM) -cocher Enable Glide Gamma ramp, force emulating true PCI access et 3Dfx Watermark Laisser le reste par défaut. Faire un clic droit sur l'exe > onglet Compatibilité > mettre 640x480 => dans les option du jeu, changer les touches pour correspondre aux jeux de maintenant ! Good game ! Si erreur de vidéo = son OK mais pas d'image, il suffit de télécharger et installer le codec Ligos Indeo Codec 5.11 pendant l'installation il dira que certains codecs sont plus récents, mais il installera quand même ce qu'il faut pour afficher les vidéos en plus du son ! Pas de patch fr existant, peut être qu'un jour la communauté en fera un (ça m'étonnerait, je ne pense pas que ce jeu soit connu encore :'( ) En tout cas, il est vachement dur xD Amusez vous bien !

Don't mess with the sound settings it will break all sounds. if there are mods for this go for it. other than that it works just fine.

Back in the day I got this on floppy disk from a classmate and I didn't get it at all. I just thought I was bad at video games, but now that I played it about 25 years later, I know the controls just suck. + This is the same version as 1998 with a maximum resolution of 640x480. Don't get this unless you have some sense of nostalgia for it, it's really bad.

Great game. The single player alone is worth it. The videos and movies between missions won't load. I've tried a few different ways, but I can't get them to work. Honestly, it's fine. The game is cheap enough to not need them. Besides, I never had the videos in the demo version I overplayed as a kid! Great game, great concepts, way ahead of its time. Would love to see it come back.
