Outside has been in early access since December 2017 with no updates for a year now since January 2018 despite a notice that states “Every two weeks there will be updates" upon launching the game. There is very little to do in the game. The player is placed in a forest where you can run along the hill on the edge of map that eventually leads to some empty, single room cabins. I regret to have bought 3 of Evil Game Studios/Electrostalin Entertainment games in the Otaku Bundle 36. The developer revoked keys on Jan 1, 2019 for all 3 games stating he was not paid. However, the bundle did not end until Dec 26, 2018. The contract states payment will be given 30 days after the sale period is over: https://ibb.co/NpNdVHm The developer has begun hardcore suppression by deleting comments and topics about the matter to avoid any resolution. Luckily, the main discussion was archived, as well as his initial announcement: https://web.archive.org/web/20190103185338/https://steamcommunity.com/app/822650/discussions/0/1742229167228467323 https://web.archive.org/web/20190103185408/https://steamcommunity.com/app/822650/allnews/ Steam Gifts discussion: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/P0ati/electro-stalin-entertainment-revoking-keys-to-3-of-their-games-otaku-bundle Coincidentally, the dev’s bundle of all 3 games has gone on sale for 90% at the same time this entire mass cleanup has occurred in an attempt to get customers to re-buy the game a second time through Steam. Please do not support this developer. I will be refunding the bundle as it is fraud and very low quality.
«Outside»
«Outside» неплохая, но сырая, с кучей багов и никогда не будет доведена до ума (судя по отношению разработчика). probably one of the worst games i've played. Sorry dev, I have to be honest here. No sounds, no sense, no bad guys. Just sh%tty wolves.
Lot of crashes...
Should have read the reviews first, so I take part of the blame for this crappy experience. Game is buggy, broken and doesn't even get past the opening scene majority of the time before completely freezing up. It is not worth it, not even if it were free. Complete rubbish.
Being forced to to give a game a thumbs up or thumbs down is super sucky. Sometimes games have tremendous potential but currently suck even though they're still in development and meeting the potential is still possible. So there's my argument for creating a more fluid rating system on steam. I thought I'd add my voice because I know the couple million other complaints gamers have made against the Steam ratings system have been ignored. But this is me and my ego demands I add my voice to the cacophony. Outside has amazing potential. I played for an hour last night doing nothing but walking in the woods, searching for a maniac and outrunning wolves (which is an incredible ability I didn't know I had. I'm heading to Yellowstone to try it in real life. Should be even more exciting than the game!) The sound of the snow was great, the sound of insects in the middle of the winter in the wilderness was surprising. I tried to look for the insects by crouching which allowed me to duck about a foot underground but I couldn't find them any more than I could see tree roots or buried dead people. It was relaxing watching the snowflakes continue to fall after they fell through the ground into what I can only assume was a bottomless pit of lonely despair. Or hell. I have no idea though, if hell is freezing over then perhaps I'll finally get my raise at work. I bring up the sound in the game because I thought perhaps it was used to give cues as to where I could find the maniac, what direction the wolves are coming from etc. I was enjoying this game so much that I charged my wireless bluetooth headphones my wife gave me for Christmas in 2016 or 2017. I had left them in my desk drawer because whenever I put them on, the wife would inevitably show up at my Man Room door and demand to know why I was ignoring her. I explained the purpose and application as well as the inevitable downside of headphones very well and was confidant I had gotten my point across until that evening when I was told she wasn't 'in the mood' as she was listening to some creepy pastas before bed. I think it's awesome my wife listens to creepy pastas but to be turned down in the sack so she can listen to a derivative story about prisoners being locked in a total silence room for days until they kill each other and let out their own demonic selves which was told much better in the Russian Sleep Expiriments, sucked. Message received babe. Love you. So, I charged my headphones, gave the wife warning I might not hear her and played the game again. This time, I found a village, avoided wolves and discovered the maniac. None of it had anything to do with the sound which was the same as if I was listening through speakers. The fact that I went through so much trouble to listen to the sound should give a hint as to how engaged I was with this particular game which sits in the survival horror genre completely surrounded by lame ass crappiness. The village was a bunch of identical run down buildings. You walk in one and you have literally seen them all except one which had a fire pit sitting in the middle of it. Not a fireplace or wood burning stove but a firepit, which is something they've installed inside buildings everywhere in order to give a feeling of inclusion to pyromaniacs everywhere who have historically been locked away in asylums and/or prisons. Yay! Inclusion! Then...it happened. I noticed movement toward the back of a cabin. There was part of an arm, the head of an axe and a leg sticking out of the back wall!! I found the maniac!! I was so excited! I couldn't wait for this axe-wielding lumberjack looking fellow to chase me through the woods and back to my own cabin. (Don't judge me.) I mean, it's the scene which opens every new game you start in 'Outside'. Dark shadowy dude in the woods...scary! He didn't chase me though. Apparently he got stuck in a cabin wall and, he looked like he hadn't noticed he was trapped. He just kept marching on even though I was shining my flashlight in his face and jumping up and down. I finally got bored, walked right up to him and he finally noticed me. He didn't roar or swing his axe or scream in rage or free himself. He made a sound like my grandfather would make when he farted. Kind of a long dragged out dusty, 'I haven't had a solid poop in 20 years', groan kinda noise. I backed up and he went back to his nightmare scenario right out of The Philadelphia Experiment...not noticing he was stuck in a cabin wall while not noticing I was still standing right there with flashlight in his face singing my rendition of Monty Pythons's I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok... If you don't know the reference, check out the clip, Warning! Some people may find the followng video offensive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FshU58nI0Ts Point is, even though this game is in early access, it was really cool, engaging fun until it wasn't. Can't complain for $1.19. I do have a couple questions though. Who told the player character there's a maniac in the woods? Why is finding out his name important? Echoes of Rumplestiltskin? Is the character a kittle girl who escaped Rumplestiltskin? We start the game and as you step out of the cabin, the game god suddenly pops up a scroll in mid-air saying Purpose: Find the name of the maniac. Why? The character is a little kid who has no idea how she got to the cabin. How would she know about the maniac? Why would a little kid continue walking in the forest when she has wolves chasing her? I like my warm cabin and the game gods want me to go marching through the woods in the middle of the winter, fleeing from wolves and being startled by the shapes of shrubberies. What the hell for? I saw no dead bodies laying around. When I crouched I saw no dead people under the snow. There are no diaries, maps or notes in the cabin you start in to tell you anything about why you're there or why you wouldn't wait until morning to go search for a maniac. You literally have to trek about the woods with all the natural things that will kill you in the middle of a snowy and foggy night. You can hear wolves and deer everywhere and if you get too close the wolves chase you even though it's pretty easy to get away unless you run into an invisible wall. Those suck. 'Under the Dome' was a great book but a terrible tv show. Why in the world would I continue walking through the woods? Then you stumble upon a pyromaniac camp and accidently alert a maniac to your presence. But hey! You know he was there because the game god told you to find out his name. Why? Is this a search for vengeance? Is the player character out to commit suicide by going on this midnight walk? Who am I that I know there's a maniac at the beginning of the game? Really curious and annoying (still fun). Bottom line, I really enjoyed this game and if I'm over complicating the motives of our main character, no worries. I'll play no matter what. I think being chased through the woods hiding from a killer is fantastic fun. I don't care for coops or multiplayer games so I missed the Friday the 13th game and others. A first person version is something I've wanted quite badly and Outside is a good first step. If the maniac can get unstuck and the developers get the game doing what the game was designed for, I will be very excited and more than happy to pay more, if necessary, for a full game. It appears I've achieved maximum verbosity. Sorry for the length!
Merci
I actually bothered to finished the game, twice, before posting this review. The goal of the game is to find 3 pages around the map, then go back to the starting cabin to select which page you think has the name of the maniac written on it. The location of the pages are non-random. Chosing one of the 2 wrong pages gets you the bad ending and choosing the right page gets you the good ending. There's no in-game clue as to which page is correct, it's mostly just using common sense. Besides pages, you also pick up health kits, water, and pills. Health kits restore your health, water restores your stamina, and it's unclear what pills do. There are two enemy types; wolves and the maniac. They don't seek you out, they're just positioned around the map and they attack you when you get too close to them. You run away from both of them, and they should lose track of you before you run out of stamina. The maniac walks around the village area and doesn't really do anything special besides chase you if you get too close. The outdoor map is actually pretty small; most of it is closed off with invisible walls at the edges. I've only found 4 points of interest; the cabin, the camp ground, the farm, and the village. The farm and the village are right next to each other and are the main points of interest on the map. The rest of the map is pretty much empty with nothing going on. Finishing the game doesn't take very long; it can be done in about half an hour if you're just wandering around or several minutes if you know what to do. Games like Witch Hunt or Putrefaction or even something like Ghostship Aftermath or even Rake or From Dust show that a single self-taught programmer can actually make a decent game out of store-bought assets on their bedroom computer. Outside is not a game like that. It's not even at the level of something like a VIS-games product. Hell even things like Walden and the Werewolf, Share, Night Catcher, or even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Evil Park, which were all terrible, are still more of a game than Outside. The word "asset flip" gets thrown around a lot, often inaccurately. However, Outside really is barely more than an asset flip. It's pre-purchased models dumped into a pre-purchased map, with the bare minimum of gameplay to quality as an original product. Definitely not a recommend, even at only $1.
Bloß nicht kaufen! Da passiert nix. Man stapft durch eine hässliche Winterlandschaft (wirklich? Unreal Engine 4?
Looks nice on screenshots, but is otherwise a broken and abandoned mess.
