"OUTSIDE" is a badly made, failed attempt at recreating a retro gaming experience like you might get with Ultima, except without the fantastic sword and sorcery RPG system, expansive open fantasy world, and gripping gameplay, instead it's just a crap 2D retro pixel adventure game that nobody wanted or played (check out the SteamDB stats if you want a laugh). What do you do in the game? You clunk around a top down 2D retro pixel square tile based set of maps and do some primitive NPC interactions. Or, like the 120,000,000 other gamers on Steam, don't. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. This is only free in a rudimentary sense... the developer has their hand out for a $2 USD "donation" for this as you're expected to buy soundtrack DLC from Steam to "support" the "developer"... digital panhandling. Like the homeless guys who splash dirty water on your windscreen at the traffic lights. No thanks. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
A genuine love letter to gaming. It isn't that long and I think if you are a gamer in general, you will enjoy it. There are small over sights that will likely be ironed out shortly after I add them to discussions for the dev. Just Play It. It's free.
Great game interesting cameos not too diffucult but fun trying to complete quests 10/10
While there were some annoying bugs the game was thoroughly enjoyable with plenty of easter eggs to find and with just enough to make you play it at least once again.,
*OUTSIDE* is like stepping into a cartoon world where the sun is always shining, and the townsfolk are just a little too quirky for their own good! You’ll wander around a retro-style town that feels like it was designed by a group of hyperactive squirrels on a sugar rush. Every corner you turn, there's a new oddball character waiting to give you a task that sounds like it was plucked straight from a fever dream. One moment you’re helping a guy find his lost pet rock, and the next, you’re in a staring contest with a giant inflatable flamingo. And let’s talk about the costumes you collect! One minute you’re dressed as a wizard, and the next, you’re a hotdog trying to convince a cat to join your party. Because who doesn’t want to be a hotdog? Exploring the town feels like being in an endless scavenger hunt for the weirdest things imaginable. You’ll be cracking up at the absurdity of it all while trying to complete missions that make you question your sanity. If you’re looking for a game that’s equal parts hilarious and whimsical, *OUTSIDE* is your ticket to a wild adventure! Just remember to leave your serious pants at the door; you won’t need them in this delightful, chaotic world!
Really good Game with a lot of secrets. I really like that the music design is good, while still being in the back ground! I am looking forward to more games like this one. Small thing to check and if unwanted improve: when using WASD to select letters to select a name W behaves wierdly by making the select screen all black but also reverses this effect when pressing W again. does not happen with the Up arrow Key.
