Reviews
Feels like an asset flip. It's supposed to be a vampire survivor style game, but a lot of the design decisions are just so nonsensically bad that it feels like the developer doesn't really understand the genre. First of all, there's a major game breaking bug which is that sometimes the crystals that you're supposed to pick up to level up mysteriously have their collision hit box activated, which means you can't pick them up, because they block you from moving into them. On the one hand, it's possible that by the time you read this review, the dev will have fixed that bug, but on the other hand, it happens frequently enough and is such a severe problem that it speaks to the lack of attention to detail. In terms of inexplicable design decisions: in most Vampire Survivor style games, when you acquire an attack, it either auto-aims towards your enemies, or it fires in all different directions, which means there's a decent chance it'll actually hit an enemy. In this game, your attacks always fire in the direction in which you're moving. The problem with this is that because your fire rate is so low, you need to be constantly moving away from the enemies, which means you're constantly firing your attacks *away* from the enemies. When you kill an enemy, their death animation is very long, like a good 7 seconds, and while that animation plays, their corpse still does physics collisions. That means when you kill a guy, you typically can't pick up the blue XP crystal that they drop. Instead you need to just keep running because the horde is still chasing you, and you just hope that you'll be able to get that crystal later when you circle back around to it. Narratively, the weapon design doesn't make sense either. Visually, it's some sort of submachine gun, like maybe an uzi or something. But your fire rate is like once every 5 seconds, and your character inexplicably shoots it angled towards the floor, so that if an enemy is more than 2 feet away from you, you won't be able to hit them, cause your bullet will hit the floor instead. There's also no pain animation or sound effect, so you might not notice when you're taking damage unless you're looking at the health bar at the top of the screen. There's no death animation or sound effect either; when your health reaches zero, a menu pops with the option to spend your upgrade points or start a new game. But behind the menu, you can still see your character model just chilling. So the first time I died, I didn't understand what happened. All I saw was some menu popped up, so I wasn't sure if that meant I had beat the level and was now being taken to the next level or something. In the upgrade tree, there no visual indicator for which upgrades you can afford vs can't afford, so you'll be wasting a lot of time just clicking on every upgrade to see its price so you can check whether or not you can afford it. Also, when you click on an upgrade, a little pop up comes up describing what the upgrade does. First of all, the description is kind of in broken English, so it's not always clear what it does (for example what's the difference between "health regeneration" and "health recovery"?) Second of all, the pop up covers part of the upgrade tree, and you can't move it or scroll the tree around, so for all the upgrades in the top right corner of the screen, you need to click on them, see from the pop up that you can't afford it, click the "close" button to close the pop up, click on another upgrade in the top right, see from the pop up that you can't afford it, click the "close" button to close the pop up, and repeat again and again. The game also doesn't seem to keep track of stats correctly. For example, every level I did, it claims that "enemies killed" was 0, even though I clearly got some blue crystals from them. All in all, I'd recommend playing almost any other game in the genre. So for example: Vampire Survivors, Nova Drift or The Spell Brigade.
