About

Eleven-year-old Iggy wasn’t sure what he was expecting when he dragged his friends out to the woods to attempt a strange ritual from a book he found in the dumpster at school, but his wildest imagination couldn’t have prepared him for the land of wonder and magic that awaited them at the bottom of that old willow tree.
Now, however, it’s twenty years later, and he and his friends are past the age of make-believe. The wonderland of their youth has become nothing more than a far-off dream—until one night, Bucks and her newborn daughter disappear without a trace. Soon, Iggy and his friends find themselves pulled back into that world of childish glee. Only their wishes and desires aren’t so innocent anymore, and the world has twisted itself into a land of horror and depravity that’s scarcely recognizable.

Our Wonderland is a horror-fantasy visual novel focusing on the struggles, issues, and deteriorating relationships between five childhood friends (amplified to horrific effect). I think of it a bit like an overwrought character drama that happens to include horrific and fantastical things. It contains five different arcs, each with its own ending, and your choices affect the amount of peril the protagonist experiences (hint: how many times Iggy violently dies), as well as the final ending (hint: who Iggy ends up with at the very end, because apparently in some messed-up way, this is also the world's worst dating sim).
As an extra note, this game also touches on a lot of LGBTQIA+ themes.
Our Wonderland was originally released episodically on itchio between 2021 and 2024. This Steam release is the newly remastered version with overhauled art, new features, and many quality-of-life updates.

A dramatic, emotional, and occasionally horrific visual novel told in five arcs, each with its own ending
Four possible epilogues based on your choices (1 neutral and 1 for each of the 3 LIs Iggy can end up with)
20 to 25 hours of playtime (around 288k words of reading)
Storybook-style visuals accentuated by a weird, colorful art style
Over 570 CGs/illustrations (that's a whole heck of a lot)
Some super sweet animatic-style cutscenes for important, poignant scenes (easier to cry to)
12 ways to violently die! (if you want to, of course)
A fun cinematic soundtrack and lots of dramatic sound effects for an immersive experience

Our Wonderland is generally recommended for mature audiences on account of its themes. The game also includes a Censored Mode. This mode spot-pixelates elements of gore within the CGs, which may be helpful if you're interested in the game but squeamish about gore.

this game is beautiful and terrifying and gorgeous and threatening and perfect and vommit-inducing all at once. its the perfect dark fantasy horror game. it takes every bad bit of every character in the story and puts them in a world where those parts are magnified. where every pixel of this world feels tainted and destroyed by them. and yet. you still fall in love with each character.
IT'S. A REALLY GOOD GAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok so. time loops. exploration of identity, cycles of abuse, repression of the self, loss of the self, "are we what we are in our worst moment?", what it feels to die and die and die and die and di it's a really good game. trust me. go play it. when the author said they put five years and a part of their soul into it they were very, very, very right. now ok. for my personal feelings, i enjoyed being wrung through the five circles of hell of this game very much so. it Did push me all the way through "would love to see these people in a fit of despair" into "that is WAY TOO much (just enough) despair, i wanna see them try to live in a slice of life now", which literally nothing ever does. and you know what? you're in luck you're getting these characters in like six other games. am i right or am i right. arc
4 killed me. badly. as a nonbinary asexual person the unspokenness of gidget's suffering in arc 4 probably hurt me more than any character arc i've ever experienced. (voiceofguywhoreadsalot). im so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ happy they're able to let themselves free in the end and LET IT BE KNOWN I CALLED IT FROM ARC 2 OK ? OK !!!! genzou's my second favorite character but we know why.
This game is extremely original and the art style is really really nice. I love how much thought has been put into the game/story as a whole and can't wait to continue and finish it.
This game is a beautiful example of queer horror handled with care to make one of the best stories I've read in years! It's totally worth your time. The story focuses on a group of 5 childhood friends and their strained relationships with themselves and each other. Each arc focuses on one of these 5 friends, and by the end of the game, I cared about and really resonated with each of them for different reasons, even if I didn't always agree with their choices. The author manages to make the sweet and serious moments through each arc amplify the horror elements while always serving the characters. This is hands down some of the best, well-paced horror writing I've ever read. The art took me a bit to get used to, but once you realize just how many CGs are in the game, the choice makes total sense. There's just enough detail to get the horror across combined with stellar prose writing that really draws you in. The music is also a huge highlight. When I found out the game was mostly royalty free music, I was worried that the OST wouldn't sound cohesive, but it's abundantly clear that every song was chosen with care to the point that you can tell which song relates to which characters based on the style and instrumentation. Every song in the OST fits so well. I had some small gripes such as certain phrases such as "the smell curled into my nose" that pop up constantly, and every character has random moments where their diction suddenly changes to become very verbose, but neither of those bothered me much. One warning: PLEASE pay attention to the content warnings. This game handles dark and complicated themes in a very careful and nuanced way, but it does NOT shy away from anything. I was worried that some themes and subplots were going to be handwaved but by the end I felt like every element was wrapped up expertly. Couldn't recommend this game more! PLEASE play it!
I adore this game with my entire heart. It's so unique and charming. I immediately fell in love with these hot messes of characters and their complicated relationships with each other. I can see myself coming back to revisit this game over and over again. Absolutely phenomenal.
I've yet to finish the remastered version, but I will say that from playing the original, this game genuinely changed my life. The characters are extremely well written, and they honestly feel like real people you'd see on a walk or something. The characters have flaws and the game isn't afraid to show that. They feel human, and it's perfect. I've cried playing this game, and it's gotten some laughs out of me. Our Wonderland's story is insanely interesting, dark, and fun. It reminds you of how fleeting life really is. A single missed chance could change your life. Avoiding hardship can change your life. Our Wonderland reminded me to actually embrace life, live it. Don't avoid things in life because they're hard, because if you do that all your life, you're never truly living. also genzou and iggy 4 life :D
After completing the entirety of Arcs 3-5 of the remaster, along with the extra content, all I can say is bravo to the developer. This truly is a complete package and more than any of us could have ever asked for. I played the original game years ago and made a review on VNDB telling people not to sleep on the game; and once again, after completion, I shall once again say do not sleep on this game! It's been a while since we've seen a good denpa horror game grace the visual novel space, and I'd say this version greatly improves upon the initial product. Even though the original version is no longer available, I can say that this IS the definitive way to play the game. The character have great amounts of depth and focus, and their positive and negative traits are shown greatly. Although the romance aspect is more of a secondary characteristic, it doesn't bog down the game in the slightest. This is a game with no shame in its contents, unabashedly queer, and at its core, a riveting story about innocence, adulthood, and funnily enough, the choices we make. And trust me; if you're put off by the artstyle. Give it a shot still. Trust me. You won't regret this one. :)
I laughed. I cried. I clutched my non-existent pearls. From the quality of the writing to the deceptively adorable art, I've been utterly obsessed ever since finishing the game. Hands down the best game I've played this year, and probably the best I've ever played of this genre. Also, the music! I can't even count how many time I've replayed the soundtrack on the 'tube. Amazing work. Big kudos to the creator. You are a scholar and a saint. Thank you for this gem.
(Note: I played the game on itch.io) Truly a one of a kind game and a story that'll stay with you for a while. Queer horror doesn't get better than this 🙏
