Beautiful graphic and nice story. I love to play this game.
In buddy we trust
While the story might not be unique for an walking simulator the lesson the players learns at the end is worth the trip. Pairded up with you trusty little companion buddy we make our way across a national park in order to reach the city life. Everything to get help saving buddy. The best part about the game is that buddy is not just your ordinary walk by your side companion you can control him and you need to control him. At times you encounter obstacles that require buddy to search in a smaller passageway for a solution. On top he has the special ability to highlight important interact points and he visualizes part of the ongoing background story. Which gives a pretty strong impression the first time you do it. Like many walking simulators the game wants to teach a lesson by telling an emotional tale. There is nothing wrong with it. The lesson you learn is great. But the presentation is far from perfect. I can boil the problems down to three kinda major issues for me. First of all problems are the cutscenes. The game has like a lot of them. Most consist of the player and buddy having a good time. While parts of the game have a voiced over narration the cutscenes, except for the only good one, have grunts and moans like sims characters. If you place the following combination into a rather sad and stressfull setting i felt like getting an immersion breaker. The combination I talk about is of no facial animation, a happy moaning main characters and some cheap or free usabale happy music. I dont wanna critize the point of lacking facial animations. Its a one person game and perhaps the first major. There are limits to experience, budget and skills. Its an acceptable step back in quality. Buts its so dam weird to have this emotional scenes and the characters moans and grunts in the wrong emotion only to have this dramatic camera pan onto a face that looks like that it doesnt care at all about the world. I personally would have left the moans and grunts to be bedtime exclusive and have rather music heavy no talking cutscenes or an acutal voice over. Even if you are not the greates voice actor of all time. A spoken sentences of daily everage dog human talks would have worked much better. All cutscenes broke the illusion the game created so carefully and pulled me out of the much needed immerson. The only cutscene to feature a voice over and no moaning is the best and most emotional cutscene in the game. Sadly I could felt it as much as the game wanted to. Second problem I had is the music. The game has no unique soundtrack and feature bought tracks. Some heavy artist like josh kramer have a song present. The problem I have with that is it misses the musical journey. The tracks on its own arent bad but they didnt really work together combined. Some music doesnt fit a scene and some tracks have different pacing or an entire different approach to the score itself. I am a huge fan of music and soundtracks: If an artist is able to create a scene using the heacy load from the music and supports the emotional journey of the song with a good scenery the player is in on emotional ride. Our mountain misses that opportunity. Last bugger is something that took me awhile to adjust to. The graphic design is beautiful and the washed coloured texture look good. The problem ist that atleas for me felt a little hard to make out edges and distant. In the beginning a had a little dizzyness adjusting to the game graphics. It then only became noticable when sprinting and turning arround alot. I think the best attempt to present a somewhat solution are more shadows and colour grading to make out distants and obstruction. When it comes to bugs there are two in question. There is a light bug that at some points you have a quick increase in light almost like a lighting strike. Confused me a little at the beginning is more annoying than game breaking. The last thing i remeber is getting stuck behind a log while searching an area and forcing me to reload the save. I recommend players to experience both endings. One I would consider is good and the other is bad. I did the bad ending first and doing the good one second felt rewared. The game is beatable in one session and the last save is pretty close to the end so loading back into the game to experience the second ending only cost listing to the cutscenes again. For me Our Mountain will be a game about an important lesson in life the we forget far to easily. While I am sure its not a game i will remember in the comings years I am glad i bought and played it. On top I am looking forward to any other game made by this dev and studio. If this is the quality bar for theirs games I cant really await what comes next.

Very sweet and short game!
I am quite split on this game. Our Mountain is far more obscure than it deserves to be. I could not find a single video on YouTube where someone does a full playthrough, and at the time of this writing, I can only see 10 reviews on Steam. And this game came out in 2022! That is incredibly strange to me, because while this game is not the most polished or engaging narrative adventure in the world, there are plenty of games that are far worse and far better known. So, based simply on that, I feel obligated to recommend Our Mountain simply to boost its visibility in the growing and fascinating landscape of Walking Sims / Narrative Adventure games. It deserves to be played. However, there are some serious issues with the game. Our Mountain is at its best when it starts to get surreal and when it begins to fill in the blanks of the backstory, but it takes a bit too long to get there. You are barely given anything to do along the way. There are really only two things close to what you could call puzzles, and they are incredibly rudimentary. Still, I would have taken a half dozen more just to keep things interesting. The localization leaves a great deal to be desired. This game could have really used the help of a native English speaker to tweak and polish a lot of the written text, because it is oddly not at the same level of quality with the spoken voiceover. Additionally, the mystery surrounding the missing people in the park and the 'tribal' people that used to live there... it feels very shallow and flat and honestly just distracts from the better parts of the story, which are only revealed much later in the game. All in all, if it is one or the other, I recommend playing Our Mountain because it is a capable Walking Sim that does its best to tell an interesting story, hampered as it is by excruciatingly stiff character animations and stilted written text. For the price, it is worth visiting as an entry into the growing pantheon of indie walking simulators. Keep you expectations in check, though. This lacks the emotional depth of better genre examples like Firewatch or The Suicide of Rachel Foster, though this does absolutely YANK at your heartstrings via the main character's relationship with his dog. Using an adorable little dog to get me to care about your characters and story is cheating. Is it effective? Yes, absolutely, but it still feels like cheating or at least a cheap shortcut in an otherwise somewhat undercooked narrative adventure game. One final note of criticism: not every game needs collectables. Putting 30 collectable bones in this game is an incredibly odd and, in my opinion, bad choice. I found myself interrupting the flow of what should be emotional and urgent moments to slowly walk around the environment and ensure that I had not missed any hidden bones, and even then I finished the game with only something like 24 of the 30, which means that I did not even get the achievement, which means that I literally just made my experience of the game worse for no good reason at all. Stop it! Have some confidence in your storytelling and do not cheapen it with goofy stuff like 30 collectable bones scattered throughout the game.
