Orpheus: To Hell and Back is a mesmerizing action-puzzle game that brings the timeless myth of Orpheus and Eurydice to life in the palm of your hands, 80's chibi-anime style!
Armed with Orpheus' magical lyre, players will explore the labyrinthine depths of Hades.
Orpheus can push blocks and retrieve items, but more importantly, he can use his lyre to mentally control his enemies' movements! Push enemies into traps scattered throughout the levels and rise victorious from this challenge!
Using the power of music, you can enchant enemies, manipulate their movements, and even lull them to sleep.
You will have 3 skills to use during your adventure:
Song of Charm: enemies are attracted towards Orpheus for a limited amount of time
Song of Sleep: enemies are put to sleep for a limited amount of time, standing still in their current position
Song of Fear: enemies are repelled away from Orpheus for a limited amount of time

Every note played resonates with the game world, shaping the environment and altering the behavior of mythical adversaries. The lyre becomes your weapon, your tool, and your key to solving intricate puzzles, an harmonious blend of action and strategy.

Already backed this on Kickstarter (and played on my Analogue Pocket) but decided to also buy here to support the devs. Such an original, clever and nostalgic game! Hopefully it does well enough to fund more and more projects like this. We still need good ol' Game Boy games :)
(I played it on 3DS using the rom that comes with the game) Orpheus is a wonderful showing of the things that can, and cannot, be accomplished with the Gameboy Color. The game is cute, fun, and as a quirky interest piece, very worth a short play, especially for enthusiasts. Despite this, its charm and the love that clearly went into it, its marred by a number of issues. Bad hitboxes, terrible invulnerability frames, poorly explained mechanics, mechanics that straight up do not work, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that I don't think I would've tolerated even as a 6 year old. The game wants to do a lot of things, it wants to be a lot of things, but its held back by... yes, the hardware, possibly. There's a lack of polish, though in the endeavor to create Orpheus, I can let things slide. Despite this, I enjoyed my time, overall, with the game. I'm eager to see what improvements the dev team will make the next time they tackle a project.
A very charming game that takes me back to the days when I used to enjoy playing on my Game Boy. So far, I've really appreciated the visual style, the music, and, as someone who loves classic mythology, the setting as well. The game is easy to understand, with simple, minimal controls. The puzzles are enjoyable and fit the retro aesthetic perfectly. The only issue I ran into during gameplay is a slight imbalance in the collision boundaries: suspended bridges seem to be a bit more forgiving on the left side than on the right. As a result, it's easier to fall off from one side than the other, and sometimes you end up having to replay a section simply because you forgot about this quirk. Overall, though, I recommend it!
Played mostly on Analog Pocket. It's cool to have a new GameBoy game on cartridge, but it does not feel like a complete game to me. For one, how do you have a game about Orpheus playing his lyre as the main idea, but the lyre itself makes no sound? Just seems like a massive and disappointing oversight. There are some neat puzzles and cool ideas, and overall the presentation is very good, but other than that, it just barely feels like a game.
A very enjoyable Game Boy Color-style game. The mythological premise is cleverly integrated into a puzzle game built around solving rooms in consistently smart and creative ways. Orpheus uses his musical powers to repel, attract, and put enemies to sleep, while working his way through the various rooms and defeating the bosses. Since this was my first game of this kind, remember to save directly through the program before closing it; otherwise, you will lose your progress!
I've always liked the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, so when I saw someone had made a game based off it, I had to give it a try. Loving the soundtrack and the art style. It looks, sounds, and feels like an action/adventure game that would have been on the Game Boy, back in the 90s. The gameplay is fun. You play as Orpheus, who uses his lyre to either push, pull, or put enemies to sleep. With these three options, you solve puzzles to open doors, in order to progress further into Hades. The soundtrack is great. The game boy style chiptunes are catchy, and part of what motivates me to keep playing. For a game where you play as a musician, it would have been a bummer if the music sucked, but so far, I've enjoyed every song I've heard. If you like old Game Boy style games, or quick pick-up-and-play puzzle games, with great soundtracks, give this one a try. It is very charming. Oh, and bonus points for including a rom that can be easily loaded onto an emulation handheld. Steam says I've only played 0.1 hours, but that's because I decided to run the rom in mGBA, instead of the included emulator. Next, I'm going to put it on my Everdrive so I can play it on my Game Boy Color as soon as I get the chance.
Fun Trial + Error type game for $3 Some bugs should be addressed for handhelds though/General QOL added >Default resolution does not scale to Steam Deck where I initially tried playing, it is too large & with no way to change it in-game, most of the screen just ends up being cut off on the top and bottom. On Desktop, it's so small the vast majority of the screen is just black space. Also caused me to initially launch the game in Japanese on Steam Deck due to being unable to actually see that there was a Lanugage selection option until i tried playing on Desktop Most of the playtime seems like it will come from the trial and error aspect I mentioned. If you die you get sent back to the beginning of the level/first room until you defeat that area''s boss. Very linear, room-to-room structure early on. Cute premise, very charming music. Worth the $3 for a bit of a game boy nostalgia trip if nothing else, I just hope the problems on handheld/Steam Deck are fixed as that is where i was hoping to play.
Really charming little game. The lyre mechanic is a clever way to handle enemies and puzzles, and the Game Boy-style visuals work surprisingly well with the Orpheus setting. Simple, focused and full of personality.
Es muss schon vom Menü her gehen.
