Orbyss

Really love this game! The atmosphere is super chill but also mysterious. It pulls you in right away. The gameplay mechanics are clever and feel great once you figure them out! Can’t believe this was made by one person... Seriously impressive work. Congrats to the dev, you made something special here :)

🔸 EXPECTATIONS: a simple rolling-ball puzzle game. 🔸 REALITY: a minimalistic rolling-ball puzzle game. 🔷 Orbyss is a 3D puzzle platformer with no jumping, where the player controls an orb that can give commands to other balls, or switch command entirely with them in certain cases. It's all very minimalistic, from the range of actions to the visual design, music and specially narrative. 🔹 Being all that minimal can make one think it might be a shallow or dull game, but it's not the case. If puzzles is what matter, they're very well layered, adding new elements in each of the 8 chapters. Levels can be solved 'imperfectly', or in an optimal way, which unlocks in-game achievements. 🔹 Be aware that besides moving things around the level, Orbyss also includes different types of puzzles that involve sound, if that can be an issue. It can take around 8 hours to complete, and probably beyond the 10h including the bonus levels released after launch. 🔹 The visuals, while nice and appealing initially, let me down a bit by the end for its lack of variation and/or narrative development. The story, though, is told without text nor dialogue, completely relying on the action and the compelling music. 🔹 Regarding difficulty, I'd say it's easy to reach the end: the main challenge is to figure out the level rather than executing it, so it involves a bit of exploration and trial/error. The achievements, on the other hand, are harder, often involving some tricks one can do, but wouldn't normally do. 💠 Some games succeed by trying new things, others by perfecting an established formula, and Orbyss belongs to this second group. It's nothing new or revolutionary, but it scores high in most of its parts. If 3D puzzle platformers are your thing, Orbyss is very well recommended. what a fantastic and charming puzzle game. worth every penny

Only an hour in, but loving this game so far! Reminds me a LOT of The Last Cube, which has similar aesthetics, similar fun puzzle platformer mechanics, and similar optimization challenges.

Really love the feeling of this game and the peacefull sound design. Controls of the sphere are very smooth and very satisfactory. Advanced puzzles can be challenging but that is the whole purpose of this kind of game !
