Operation Octo

Operation Octo is one of the most chaotic Tower Defense games I have ever played, and I love it for that! Constantly, there will be something to look out for, whether it's collecting things, placing down and upgrading your towers, cycling through your belt to get to the tower you actually need, or praying to god you survive at the end of the level. Sometimes, the chaos is overwhelming even, with bandana and ranged skeletons relentlessly harassing you or nasty special skeletons making quick work of your defenses and getting to your CLAMs. But no matter how bad it may seem (or sound, iykyk), you can overcome it if you keep your calm and and pay attention to your surroundings.

A game I loved in my youth is Plants vs Zombies and I always wondered why nobody tried to use a similar formula. It’s a very tight and charming tower defence game, and with Operation Octo I finally found something reaching for that high! You are an octopus playing against dead pirates. That setup alone is cool as ♥♥♥♥, isn’t it? We got separate stages with their own biomes, several enemy units and unique units on our own side. There is the reliable Pisto Shrimp, who shoots at nearby skeletons, the bumper fish that protects from projectiles, the literal red herring who forces enemies on a wrong track, the explosive Blobfish and many more. It’s fun to get new units after completing a stage or receive money to buy upgrades. It’s the same addictive loop that made Plants vs Zombies so good. The style is also reminiscent of the comic look but unlike its inspiration we don’t play in lanes. We play in a wholly walkable 3D field. That makes positioning even more crucial and your own player can also take some action (mainly as a distraction). At times the field creates a hilarious chaos and I loved to see all the effects and sounds. Sometimes it was a controlled chaos, sometimes I wasn’t sure who was winning. More people need to play this, If you love pvz or pvz 2, this is a fresh take on the format with just so many ways of playing

Do you like Plants Vs Zombies? Were you dissapointed by Plants Vs Zombies Replanted? Do you like Bullet Hell games? If you answered yes to at least the first and last one, this game is for you. I think. I dunno, play it, and if you don't like it, get a refund, man.

I had an issue with the linux version on my laptop, i asked for help on the forum and a mod was earger to help. now i'm able to play the game and boy, this is a tower defense that really has the very essence and soul the first plants vs zombies had, you know just... the most iconic tower defense game in history, it's completely different from pvz, but is as innovative and fun as heck to play in its own way I hope they eventually fix the issue on the linux version for good and improve the UI

My best friend had me get this game because he said it was "Like Plants vs Zombies Adventures if it was a good game and took all of its potential and fleshed out while removing all of its flaws!". And basically yeah, he was right. I couldn't put it any better myself. This game is GREAT! A fun successor to PvZA for someone who grew up on that game. I know it's not ACTUAL PvZ (counting fan stuff for this because PopCap is... yeah...) but if I'm counting it, this is probably my favorite PvZ game I've ever played. I genuinely implore anyone else who played that game growing up to try this game out. It's criminally underrated and needs the love. The creator is a PvZ fan and you can tell their art was filled with love while making this game. Like always, PvZ fans do better than PopCap themselves. PopCap themselves are out there using AI for ♥♥♥♥ and the fans are making stuff like THIS! Play it.
