This game looks like a cross between Ocarina of Time and Spyro the Dragon. In truth it’s like a mix between Ocarina of Time and a dollar store Monty Python. It’s at its most Zelda-like in the dungeons, when you’re led into rooms stacked with combat encounters and puzzles. Well, I say ‘dungeons’, but they’re just as likely to be orphanages or barracks, as the game is a bit more light hearted, preferring to stay in the light, offering a world that’s more colorful than it is dour. It’s refreshing, in all honesty. The game has a very ‘Monty Pyton’ dry sense of humour which I was not expecting and at times the cut scenes had me laughing hard, which as a bitter boomer is rare in video games. Particularly the town hero and the girl at the orphanage had me laughing out loud multiple times. The setting of the game is awfully fun. The narrator does their best Deadpool impressions throughout the game and takes little stabs at the tropes of the genre, the limitations of the game, and anything else it can get its hands on. The characters eye you with suspicion and send you on wild goose-chases to get bottles of water from the top of towers. It’s all good natured and sporadically hilarious. The platforming sections are challenging without being overbearing and the optional sections (iThe Hollow Realm) are very challenging for those that need an extra level of difficulty. The puzzles are well thought out and varied, making them fresh and not repetitive. The game is pretty average in quality for an indie game, but there’s a certain charm in the platforming/quests with an interesting story and some memorable yet brief characters who are funny and interesting. Worth it, but perhaps wait on a sale. 7/10

I'm having a lot of fun so far! it's reminding me of Spyro and it's making me nostalgic in a good way. The story along with the music and the peaks of humor here and there are really what are making the game worth it for me, my congrats to Rat Cliff Games, excited for future projects!
Unfortunately, the combat controls are just too stiff and unresponsive for the extended combat sequences the game expects. I tried using a variety of approaches and moves, trying to target dangerous foes first, tactically using the healing move, juggling, etc.: The input buffering means it feels like even when I am attempting to execute a move consistently it sometimes just doesn't trigger, or totally whiffs even when I am locked on. The lack of move cancelling means that any mistake (or just a buffered input) means that I can be locked into moves for seconds at a time, and ultimately that, combined with the enemies fast-startup, high-tracking, and repeated attacks can create multiple seconds of high damage stunlock (and death). Some later combat sequences feature like 5 combat waves coming in one after another. Once we got to "4 homing shot mages plus armored rolling guy", it just is too frustrating for me and I had to admit I was getting miserable and angry and it didn't feel like "getting better" was something the game was going to let me do in an engaging or consistent manner. The puzzle platforming, cut-scenes, music, voice acting, and particularly challenge levels in the Hollow Realm? All very neat stuff! It kept me playing through the game even as I was finding the combat increasingly unbearable. The combat is just not in a fit state for release. If I hear about patches and improvements in that regard I might pick this one up again (and change my review accordingly).
This game is very reminiscent in a good way of some of the classic 3D platformers from the 90s and 00s (your Crash Bandicoots and Spyros), mixed with some modern elements, hack and slash combos, sarcastic/self-aware humor and skill challenges. It's a fun experience and you can see the creator cared a lot for the genre. Play it and see for yourself!
One True Hero is so much good platform puzzle and action game. I think this game has some zelda vibes sometimes and good sword fight, dodge and a little bit different blocked sometimes. Yes, young little farmer boy become a hero with our hands. The game mechanics are so cool and good gameplay. The musics are so good and sound effects. The game has a lot fun, I enjoyed the game. a very good platform with a great story
One True Hero is a nearly perfect deconstruction of its genre, both in storytelling and gameplay. It's quickly become one of my favorite games. There's such incredible variety that every room and encounter has something new to offer, and there's never a dull moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UzeP6XhKUE
worst movement i long time played....in the castle the room with the rope was the moment i quit the game, after 20 tries to move with the rope and jumping to the stair....i give up....have no idear what i do wrong, i am on the down site of rope moving on the higest point backwards but the highest point of swinging are not enough i jump and maybe 1m i am to low to reach the stairs....this room level makes zero fun.....
