One Ping Only is a submarine themed Game Jam/demo that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a full game. This is a simple demo where you control a submarine through a small "cave" environment and occasionally ping things with sonar. The technical delivery is lazy and unprofessional, the developers didn't even bother with textures, it's just wireframe 3D "art". Resolution is locked, there's no graphics tweaks, so the end user can't do anything to improve the lacklustre visuals. The developers, perhaps unfamiliar with video games or never having played any of them, locked the controls, and they ignored the convention for pitch in third person vehicle games, so pitch is annoyingly inverted. Because the controls are locked, there's no way to correct this error on the part of the developers. While this is "free", it's really just a demo/non-serious attempt at making a game, it's just Game Jam/amateur project garbage and should be avoided. Game Jam and other student/project games are not made for gamers, they're made for the benefit of stroking the ego of developers. It's obviously not possible for a game slapped together over a few days during a game jam to be of the same quality as a properly, sincerely made game from a full development team with a full budget who take the right amount of time and put in genuine hard work to create a product for gamers. Sure, it is possible to slap together a game in such a manner, unprofessionally. This is a lot like driving a car using only your feet. Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it's a good idea, and often ends up in disaster. I'm sure they think it's remarkable they were able to make a game without dedicating the right resources and talent to the job, but we must ask why this benefits gamers... and it doesn't. It's polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuine games and for genuine indie developers who put months or years into making proper games find an audience.

bloody hell the CLIFF HANGER WTF? that was one hell of a time i spent 11 mins ? i held my breath for that long i guess entirely hooked by the gameplay tho it was a bit bland the lack of hyper realistic models was covered by the eerie feeling the plunge into darkness at the end? damn and people say u can make scary games without a big story
Accomplishes a great mood with such a minimalist style. Worth spending ten or so minutes to play.

I like submarines, arcade controls, and mysterious incidents. Those are all present in the 10 minutes that this game takes to complete. :D I really wish they made a full-length game out of this.
Not bad considering this is most likely made by one person, but forcing inverted controls and no volume options was kinda annoying. Also it would be more interesting I think if it had to be the play that made the pings throughout the game instead of it being constant every 3 seconds.
Really nice game. I love the universe around submarines so I would like to see more of it.
Student title with an interesting concept. Worth checking out briefly, especially given it is so short.
I really like games that require SONAR / echolocation to navigate, and One Ping Only really fits the niche! My only wish would be for it to have achievements, but the whole experience is still worth a few minutes of your time. The game world is fairly empty, but still gives off an unsettling vibe to an extent, luckily its not designed to be spooky, just a cool simulation of submarine physics and underwater exploration.
