About
Omega Warp is a 2D single-player action-adventure that takes place aboard ISE Horizon Prime interstellar freighter, orbiting the planet Tau Verge in the constellation HH Andromedae, serving as a base of operations for building an outpost. Play as Lana Winfort or Stean Redfire belonging to the repair team sent to investigate the interstellar freighter's loss of communication with the base of operations on Earth that occurred a year earlier.
Incorporating metroidvania elements into the gameplay, Omega Warp offer a blend of exploration, skill upgrades, and equipment customization, enhancing the player experience with interconnected world design.
Exploration: Progressively access the interconnected decks of the interstellar freighter, discover its mysteries, acquire new upgrades, find secret areas and understand what caused the freighter’s loss of communication with Earth.
Customization: Find and equip upgrades that will add news functionality to your space armor, making your journey easier or allowing access to new areas. Fight enemies, complete missions, discover secrets to accumulate experience and improve your skills according to your style of play.
Arsenal: Use an arsenal of long-range energy weapons, which don’t use ammo but use a battery that recharges over time. Find and equip new energy charges that deal more damage to organic or synthetic enemies. Unlock and collect ammo to use in the explosive launcher built into your space armor.
Datalogs: Access datalogs on computers scattered throughout the freighter and discover the daily life, history or secrets left behind by the crew.

If you have seen the trailer you may notice the movement seems slow and you would be right. This is a deliberate choice, this game distinguishes itself by its focus on immersive storytelling. You're not playing a king of darkness or a hollow insectoid creature or some other supernatural thing. You're an ordinary human civilian in an ordinary space suit. The story begins with you being sent to investigate why a space freighter no longer has any communications and re-establish those communications and the game takes place entirely on this freighter. The biomes look really similar and there is little variance with the enemies, again this is intentional as the focus of this game is on realism and an immersive experience. The gun can't aim upward and only shoots from side to side but the game is entirely designed around this. Progression in the game revolves entirely around finding keys and backtracking to the doors these keys unlock while you shoot everything in your way with progressively powerful guns that you will find, especially if you follow the trail to the superweapons which are probably the best thing about this game. The keys take the form of keycards, pin codes, and machine parts. The pin codes create the potential for a lot of sequence breaking on a second playthrough, giving this game some replayability. The game is remarkably polished on day 1, in contrast to so many recent releases that have needed a patch on day 1 or 2 to fix serious issues plaguing them. In fact, this game is more polished than the last faith even though that game came out more than half a year ago. Speaking of double jump, this game does have a number of metroidvania style upgrades inspired by super metroid. These are double jump, sprint, missiles, grenades, bombs... also one of the super weapons. It also includes space suits that are clearly inspired by the varia suit. Make no mistake, you will get a feeling of growing stronger through playing this game. In fact, it might be wise to play on hard difficulty rather than normal like I did because the game does kind of become too easy later on. Finally, this game features a basic leveling up system that allows you to upgrade your health, suit energy, or weapons energy. You're advised to ignore health and focus on both suit and weapons energy early on and then focus entirely on weapons energy in the late game as the superweapons use a tremendous amount of energy and are slow to recharge that energy. The story starts out generic and boring but later on towards the end it becomes quite interesting and exciting. It doesn't have the best translation in the world but it's pretty decent I think. The map is very polished and well made with auto labeling included. Unfortunately, it doesn't label locked drawers, security gates, and such in rooms, it only labels locked doors to other rooms. Hopefully that will be fixed as it would make backtracking much more fun and convenient, something that is needed since the game is lacking any warp points. In fact, the lack of warp points becomes a progressively bigger issue as time goes on. It is clear this was done intentionally as an excuse to give players an excuse to backtrack (re)discover secrets they previously didn't have access too but it is extremely annoying then at the end of the game when you've finished the cleanup, are located at the western edge of the world and then have to traverse all the way to the eastern edge and complete the game there with virtually nothing to collect on your way there. One other issue with the game is that the variety of enemies is quite low. In addition, the bosses are usually just enlarged versions of normal enemies. As a result, the game gets progressively more boring as time goes on. I need to also mention the sounds and music. The sounds are well done but the game is almost completely lacking is music except during an ambush, a save room, a boss fight, and the final 3 minutes of the game. Alright, I think I covered everything.... so, should you play this game? Well, if you are looking for engaging and challenging combat a-la soulslikes the answer is no. This has none of that. Combat here is like in super metroid. If you are looking for challenging platforming challenges the answer is also no. There is a very small amount of optional challenges revolving around sprint and double jump but that's about it. If you are looking for a puzzle oriented metroidvania this is also a pass, you'll be spending your time opening doors and traversing rooms, not solving puzzles. This game can ultimately be recommended for those seeking a story driven side scrolling RPG where you grow stronger over time.
Alright, so you should probably save fairly often. Otherwise you might have to redo some sections. Story wise it's a fairly Sci-Fi trope, but it's done pretty well. Story bits can be found through various computers and specific plot progression when completing missions. The final act gives you a bit more information as to what's going on, and it ironically feels like the longest part of the actual story. Gameplay wise, you're a mechanic that's also fairly combat savvy. You'll progress through the ship to accomplish missions, find keys, upgrades, and various other things that you'll need to unlock other sections of the ship. The layout of the ship is mostly fine, but I do wish there was a tram or something that allowed you to fast-travel. It doesn't take long to get to different spots, but there's a severe lack of real clarity on where you need to go at times. The amount of times I found myself at a dead end and had to retrace my steps to figure out what I missed is far too numerous to count. I have a pretty severe issue with short-term memory, so it can be pretty difficult for me to remember where I may have seen a locked door(not key locked, just normal locked), or locker. That led to some degree of frustration. It's actually why I quit pretty close to the end. After some 45 minutes of trying to figure out where to go I've just had enough. Combat is alright. It's pretty simple, but it's satisfying. You'll unlock a few guns and some special attacks which are helpful. There are upgrades for your suit to make things a bit easier for you to survive. Despite the simplicity I had a pretty fun time with the combat. Probably because the aliens are fun to kill. Music is alright, and the sound effects have a nice sci-fi feel to them. Graphics are good. The 2D artwork suits the game well. I do think the ship could have used some more to make it appear like the people on the ship didn't just decide to die. It'd been nice to make it look like there'd been a little combat going on, because there obviously was according to the various things you'll read. Overall, it's a good time and I'd recommend it for those that have a bit more patience than I have apparently. Or maybe a better memory. Better map reading skills? Who knows. Give it a shot.
《Omega Warp》
《Omega Warp》
Update: Changing from not recommended to recommended. If you're willing to overcome first couple of hours of slow progress, you will later find and unlock abilities such as shield that negate damage and sprint that allows you to run past enemies. You also get better weapons that make the game more decent. Could be a decent action game if not for atrocious combat mechanics and design choices. The game begins with a spaceship being sent to a distant planet. Its aim is to build a base so that mankind may more easily transport resources and people to the new planet. But once contact with the ship is lost, a team is dispatched to investigate what happened. You assume the role of a female or male member of this team. Which character you choose is irrelevant because the experience will be the same (except for an exclusive achievement). You can move around, jump, crouch, shoot, and interact with objects. Even though the game's metroidvania tag implies that you will need to explore the world and collect new items to overcome challenges, this part of the game is basic. Your primary task is to explore each room and seek for keycards that unlock other rooms. The map is fine because it shows which exits are locked with a keycard or passcode, but it doesn’t show the type of keycard required for each door. Although you roam across the ship, each corridor or room looks painfully similar. There are enemies in the middle and exits on either side, and you can occasionally use an elevator to reach another pair of exits on each side. On one hand, it makes sense because it takes place on a spacecraft, but more diversity would be welcome. It is true that there are some fresh details when you reach a specific portion of the ship, but you must be lucky to find anything intriguing. Some of these are computers with logs that provide additional context for the plot, switches that unlock doors or elevators, and bionanites that replenish health. This is vital because it is the only way to heal. The catch is that you can only carry three bionanites. Weapon uses rechargeable energy, so you will never run out of ammo, but it takes too long to start recharging. The other issue is that if you run out of energy, you will not be able to shoot until you reload it completely. Shooting enemies gets you experience points, which lead to a skill point that can be used on more health or energy. Because there are different energy levels for guns and armor, you must pick if you want more bullets or more energy for special abilities like double jump or shield. These abilities recharge extremely slowly; if you miss a double jump out of a hole, you will have to spend far too much time waiting. Unfortunately, combat is awful. Your main gun shoots slowly, you can only fire forward, and bullets do not travel far. It's not exciting to use and deals pitiful damage. Although different bullets deal more damage to specific enemies, things do not get any better in terms of excitement or quickness in killing them. The machine gun you get later would be a much better starting weapon. It uses more energy and has bad accuracy, but releases several quick bullets. The other major issue is that enemy location and no dodge result in cheap damage everywhere. Until you find sprint, you can never avoid enemies in narrow corridors. The number of enemies and healing items are determined by the difficulty level. I recommend playing just on normal because the game's mechanics are simply unbalanced on hard setting. The final issue is that enemies respawn after a while. I should also point out that saving does not heal you, and there is no quick travel. If you forgot something at the other end of the ship, you will have to walk through every chamber. This means you will have to slowly clear all rooms again. And because enemies need several bullets to die, this takes far too long. This could be fixed by removing respawn and keeping killed enemies dead. I can’t recommend the game at the current price. The main part of the game, combat, is not fun and feels like a chore. If this was offered at half the price, you might overlook that problem and get a few hours of fun. However, you won’t get very far until you drop it and never play it again. There are also annoying achievements that force you to complete the game at least twice - there's no new game plus that would make this less painful.
It was fun, and the level of detail is good in such that if you don't pay attention to the desks, you'll miss the ones you can open that are glowing blue. Small things like this hide good stuff. Its not for everyone, and its more realistic slow pace than the fast pace of Super M. That said, the ending left it open for a sequel I'd pick up if it happens.

|《Omega Warp》 |
《Omega Warp》
《Omega Warp》
Not ability-gated so it's sort of like a simpler, side-scrolling System Shock. A lot of walking until you get the sprint, but most upgrades were not strictly necessary other than the armour. It was a fairly slow pace but I had a decent time of it, will be going for higher completion rate (not sure if missile launcher was bugged and unavailable or if I just missed one locker somewhere).
