This is a garbage tier ripoff of Breakout that looks like it was vibe-coded with ChatGPT. Just like in Breakout, you have a paddle (shaped like a broom in this case) and a ball (shaped like a mouse in this case) and you're playing Pong to try break all the bricks (cheese I guess). The only key differentiator is the bricks move across the screen.
Yep, that's the best "indie" game developers have to offer is crap like this that plays worse than a free 1990's Flash game. Did I mention the developer seriously expects people would pay him money for this crap?
Let's get into the (many) technical defects. As if ripping off someone else's entire game concept for profit isn't defective enough.
The game is very simplistic, small and limited in scope and ambition. This feels more like a tech demo, proof of concept or student homework assignment rather than a fully fledged product designed for PC gamers. As such it doesn't offer any real value as a serious PC game.
The game assets are fairly mediocre/low quality, in some places they appear mismatched... Ultimately the quality of these assets, and thus the overall visual quality is lower than average, and low quality always makes for a less than optimal gaming experience. Remember, we're looking for the best of the best of 175,000+ games on Steam.
You can always spot lazy shovelware when the developer doesn't even bother including basic options like customisable display settings, graphics tweaks, or control remapping. In this case, the developer [i]did not include a video settings menu at all.[/i] It's obvious this is a lazy, minimum viable product cash grab.
With no settings menu, the controls can't be customised at all, which will frustrate many players, but more seriously it can render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers, or anyone on an AZERTY or other international keyboard layout or non-QWERTY layout.
No settings menu means there's also no option to change the resolution and no graphics settings. There's no way to guarantee this runs at your monitor's native resolution, and no way to fix it if it doesn't run smoothly and no way to improve the poor visual quality.
PC gamers will be insulted by the demand from the developer that a console peasant children's toy controller should be used, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for, and must never, under any circumstances dictate to gamers how their games are to be experienced.
The very poor quality of this game puts it squarely on-par with ancient 1990's Flash/Java games, and given it's 2026 (and this was released not so far back in 2025), gamers and the industry expect and deserve better than this kind of low effort shovelware.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Oh Boy Cheese Remastered didn't capture much interest from the people who own the game. The achievement data makes this clear: the easiest achievement, "Just getting started", for actually playing this crap, was only unlocked by 100 percent of players. Even the simplest milestone went unreached by the vast majority of owners. Hardly a ringing endorsement.
The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was [b]only 2 players[/b]. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 130 million gamers on Steam and well over 175,000+ games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Let's talk about pricing and the actual value this has for gamers. Is this game one of the best of the 175,000+ games on Steam?
Oh Boy Cheese Remastered is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. This is also competing with over 20,000+ free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
The quality problems and defects with this game makes the asking price totally unrealistic. It's impossible to recommend this to gamers here on Steam.
