They both really like playing the game and want to be really good at it, but have different perspectives about what it means to be the very best, each having a different approach as to how they want to have fun. However, that’s not the worst part, the issue with their relationship, is that they both work in the same office building. The issue is that nothing interesting ever happens leaving me with an empty feeling throughout my time with the story. I was really hoping for some conflict or something to happen at all that would grab my attention and get me excited to find out what happens next, but I was left disappointed when I reached the end of the game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3012944185 You see, the idea of [b]Chloe[/b] and [b]Jessie[/b] finding out that they work together and play the game is actually a good idea, but the execution was done poorly. I say this because it would have been nice if their interactions affected their jobs. Instead, nothing happens, they mostly just chat, hang out for a bit, and they do have a minor conflict but nothing major, almost too slice of life. The story is also very short. I was able to complete the entire [b]visual novel[/b] obtaining all five achievements within 30 minutes. Now, I will admit that I am a fast reader but even with all of that, this is the shortest [b]visual novel[/b] that I have ever played. There are two endings that you can achieve, but they are also the same as well. The only difference they have is some minor text changes but that’s it! There is nothing new and the conflict that the two characters have, which I suppose is there, sort of, doesn’t really resolve. Now, this is a [b]yuri-based visual novel[/b] and it does some ecchi-based scenes, so if you are into that, there may be a reason to pick up this visual novel, but only if you enjoy that. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3012942097 Of course, you may have noticed that I am not really providing a ton of details about the [b]visual novel[/b], but that just stems from the fact that nothing happens in the story or events. It’s pretty bare bones in terms of content and that just leaves me with very little room to talk about anything. [h1]Art Style and Performance[/h1] There is one thing that is positive that I would like to say about this game, and that is the art style. There are actually two different art styles that the visual novel has, one of the world in which [b]Chloe[/b] and [b]Jesse[/b] reside in, and the other is the [b]Mobile[/b] game world where they play and interact. Both art styles are very well done and are nicely detailed. I tested the game on an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB, AMD Ryzen 5 1500X Quad-Core Processor 3.50, and 16 GB of RAM. [h1]Final Verdict[/h1] [b]Office Girls and Games[/b] is a [b]VN[/b] that does not offer much in terms of story which sits at a lower purchase price of $3.89 CDN. It’s not too expensive, but I have played [b]visual novels[/b] similar to this which were priced even cheaper that provided much more content and enjoyment. The disappointing story and short playtime time prevent me from recommending this game, which is a shame when the art is fantastic and the yuri theme was something that initially grabbed my interest. [i]Office Girls and Games[/i] is a yuri visual novel developed by hatereallys and published by BRXKENVN. You take on the role of Chloe, an office worker who enjoys playing Isekai Online, an online mobile game, in her free time. She's happily playing her favorite game when suddenly, she loses, and she blames her teammate, who goes by the online name of April, for not caring enough to win. April has a more relaxed, laidback attitude towards the game, which irks Chloe. Then the next day, Chloe is at work when one of her coworkers, Jessie, approaches her and invites her for a fun evening of drinking with other coworkers. Although Chloe wants to refuse (preferring to go home and play Isekai Online), she reluctantly ends up accepting Jessie's invitation. Like Chloe's teammate in Isekai Online, Jessie has a more relaxed, laidback attitude, not stressing out about work deadlines, performance, and such. Of course, there is a bit of a twist that brings Chloe's online game world and her real work life together, but I'll stop my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers. As for the gameplay, [i]Office Girls and Games[/i] has a few choices presented. The choices are tied into corresponding Steam achievements, and you can either obtain a good or bad ending. Steam achievements won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game". There are several CGs as well and a few music tracks although no voice acting. Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my critique. Upon first starting the story, I like how I was immediately taken into the online world of Isekai Online. I got to see events from Chloe's point of view and witness her frustration over losing and taking it out on April. Then I got to see Chloe's life at work and learn about her personality in how she gets along with other coworkers (although the only actual interaction Chloe has is with Jessie). Although I like the story concept, seeing how Chloe and Jesse ([spoiler]who is later revealed to be April[/spoiler]) have very different ideas when it comes to work and relaxing, I wish that it had been expanded on. The story felt barebones, and there just wasn't that much conflict between these two characters. It would have made obtaining either the bad or good ending more satisfying. However, I can appreciate the few comedical parts, mainly where [spoiler]Chloe finds herself in a compromising position with Jessie[/spoiler]. As for the endings, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the two. If there are to be both bad and good endings, the differences should stand out more. As for Chloe and Jessie as characters, I found them to be neutral, neither too likable or dislikable. They have enough personality differences to stand out, but like the story, I wish that there had been more depth to them. In addition, although it is a yuri visual novel, the possibility of romance is pretty light (but it is present). As for the writing, I found it passable. The pacing felt fine, and I didn't notice any typos or such. Regarding the art, it's in the typical anime style, which is appropriate for this story. The backgrounds are simple, and the CGs and sprites are well drawn and colored. If there is a negative, it comes down to personal preference, where [spoiler]I felt that some of the sprites, especially in CGs, were a bit too revealing, showing off boobs and butts, although there is no nudity[/spoiler]. In regards to the music, there are just a few tracks, but they are passable and easy on the ears to listen to. However, they don't really stand out. Overall, would I recommend [i]Office Girls and Games[/i]? This is one of these games where I really wish Steam would have a neutral rating. I didn't highly like it, but at the same time, it wasn't dislikable. As I mentioned earlier, I wish that the story had been expanded on, as I liked the story concept. However, I'll go ahead and say that I would recommend it if you enjoy short stories and obtaining pretty doable Steam achievements. I should add, though, that because the story is very short (it took me a little over 30 minutes to get both endings and obtain all of the achievements), I would hold off on getting this game until it goes on a good sale. Nevertheless, I would like it if the developer would consider expanding on this story someday, as I felt that the concept was promising. It's cute, but I feel let down by how short it is. I really wish steam had a neutral option at times like this. The two girls have a really cute friendship and I would love to see their relationship for more than what the came contains. I feel like it ended abruptly, I would have at least enjoyed seeing a glimpse into their future or something of the sort. The art is really pretty, and the writing feels a bit clunky at times but it was cute and fun to read.
