About
In this game, you take on the role of Chichi Pyonma. She's a 15-year-old high school student from the unremarkable small town of Silver Bay, MN. Today is a particular day — a rather important one — that drastically shaped Chichi's adolescence from this point onward. It is not for the faint of heart.

Before playing this short experience, it is highly recommend that you delve into the contents of pyonpyon87's blog. This is a companion piece to Niomi's debut full-length record, 'chichi'.
A short interactive story!
From when you boot up the game, to the moment it inevitably closes on you, oct 14 serves to tell a short, atmospherically rich, and (mostly) historically accurate story that allows the player to live a few minutes in Chichi's world from a top-down RPG perspective. There is only one ending.
In-depth environmental flavor text!
You can interact with just about every object in the environment. You'll get a little bit of world-building every time you do! Never skip over the details, you never know what you could be missing...
A period-accurate MPEG Audio Layer 3 playback device!
In other words, it's a working MP3 player, and it still has a couple songs on it too! Isn't that cool? However, in order to access it, you might have to snoop around places you shouldn't be.
Cute character portraits!
Everyone's favorite anxiety-ridden teenager gets her own set of handcrafted facial expressions that appear during dialogue! These talking heads, as well as the game's art and visual assets as a whole, were all drawn by Niomi.
Crusty rag!

i wouldn't really consider it a game on its own (it's basically just one cutscene). but if you read through the blog and listen to the album on spotify or the animation on youtube (all scenes are extended to fit the music, which makes it a little repetitive but still good to me), it paints a clearer picture and makes the experience more enjoyable. one thing i dislike is that the front page shows images of content that looks like it could be in the game, which might make players think there's more content to find. after doing everything i could think of to find that area in that state, it seems that it’s just art. i think this could definitely be updated, not to add more story, but to add more content in the game depicting the story, since this only contains the "final" part

RPG Maker strikes again! "oct 14" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. Notably, the "developer" couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make a JRPG (the only thing it can do, and it's terrible at it). Instead, we have a garbage asset flipped RPG Maker "adventure" game/visual novel about the authors favourite subject, his 15 year old imaginary high school girlfriend. Incredibly cringey, creepy stuff... pretty sure this RPG Maker asset flip got the "author" on a few watchlists. The story centers on the author's imaginary 15-year-old girlfriend named Chichi Pyonma on October 14, 2002, in the small town of Silver Bay, MN. You'll experience a single, predetermined ending. Gameplay involves interacting with the environment, reading flavor text, and using a working MP3 player. The game is explicitly described as "a short experience" and "not for the faint of heart". At least that's how the developer tries to describe this mess. Really, this is a journey into cringe. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. So, it's hard to describe this as a game, the focus of the product is more like that of an e-book/visual novel, there's only minor, shallow and uninteresting gameplay elements. The crux of this is to push some very low quality, badly done fan-fiction tier writing, where we see once more a developer fail to understand the importance of "Show, don't tell", and for whatever reason, weren't able to convey their narrative through gameplay, giving us endless lines of badly written e-book text instead. My gaming rig is not a kindle. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players (possibly law enforcement)... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
randomly found this one while browsing visual novels a few weeks back and the arg associated with it pretty much took over my life from that point forward. play the game, read the blog, listen to the album. everything is so grotesquely intertwined and it feels like everything is hiding something. seriously one of the best experiences ive had with a game, this may only be a seven minute cutscene but its part of something far larger.
you need to be outside this game to experience the whole story... trust me it will be worth it
driving in my truck! right after a beer. hey that bump- ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ IT'S A CHILD.
Very worthwhile and definitely not worth spoiling, my only advice is to get the full experience through the blog and visual album on youtube (which can be accessed via the blog)
this is a real piece of culture and art. highly recommended
